    The article presents an overview of changes in law concerning management assessment in Poland, as it pertains to public financial institutions in accordance to the implementation of relevant European Union treaties. The subject of examination is the amendment of Public Finances Act from the year 2001. Partial evaluation will be performed on the application of a bill dated from 2009. According to the author, this is mistake, as the original American bill (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) that inspired the European legislation, only requires the management of private firms to file such declarations. Meanwhile Poland decided to have the law apply to public sector as well. The article attempts to evaluate the last 15 years of the currently functioning legal system. Studies have shown that the current supervision system of management assessment is ineffective, ineffectual and largely useless forcing the employees to needlessly rely on risk analysis and resort to costly control mechanisms and procedures.

    The main aim of presented article is to present methodology how sophisticated products as compressor equipment can be considered and analysed as a complex technical system which consists of jointly operating components – a set of hardware, software, operational staff and documented information. In process modelling, these components are interacting in different processes of inputs, outputs, mechanisms (resources) or management. Based on the regulatory requirements for each component of the system, a key efficiency indicator can be identified. This allows to control the process and make appropriate decisions to improve the system. The application of the proposed methodology for the development and implementation of an integrated management system reduce the cost of resources and significantly improve the quality of the implementation of processes.

    Artykuł dotyczy aktualnej tematyki zwiększania efektywności energetycznej w firmach. We wprowadzeniu omówiono problem coraz większego zapotrzebowania na energię w skali całej gospodarki. Jednocześnie zwrócono uwagę na nieefektywne wykorzystywanie dostępnych zasobów energii i wymieniono główne przyczyny tej sytuacji. Następnie scharakteryzowano oferowane na rynku nowoczesne komputerowe systemy zarządzania energią (EMS — Energy Management System) oraz wskazano zalety stosowania takich systemów. Przedstawiono etapy budowy systemu EMS i działań organizacyjnych wymaganych do wprowadzenia zarządzania energią do struktury organizacyjnej firmy, zgodnie z wytycznymi normy PN-EN ISO 50001 oraz ogólnie stosowanymi standardami ISO 9001 i ISO 14001. W końcowej części artykułu zaprezentowano przykłady systemów EMS zastosowanych w firmie telekomunikacyjnej i w zakładzie górniczym. W podsumowaniu wyrażono nadzieję, że korzyści wynikające z zastosowania systemów EMS mogą stanowić zachętę dla zainteresowanych firm do kształtowania swojej polityki energetycznej przy użyciu takich systemów.
    The article concerns the increase of energy efficiency in companies. At the beginning of the article the authors discussed the issue of the increasing demand for energy in the whole economy. At the same time, the focus was put on inefficient use of available energy resources and the reasons of this situation were listed. Then modern energy management systems (EMS) were presented, along with their advantages. Next, the authors presented the phases of an EMS system construction and operations required to introduce energy management to the organizational structure of the company, in compliance with the requirements of PN-EN ISO 50001 and commonly used standards ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. The final part of the article features the examples of EMS systems applied in a telecommunications company and in a coal mine. In the summary the authors expressed their hope that the benefits resulting from the application of EMS systems can be encouraging for the interested companies to shape their energy policy with the use of such systems.

    The concept of corporate social responsibility (CSR) since several dozen years has been recognized as one of the most important solutions used by companies that want to build competitive advantage through concern for economic effects, people and the environment. Important role in the management of CSR by these companies is the implementation of its standards and norm and their reporting. However, the question arises whether such activities are sufficient to actually talk about the company as a socially responsible organization. In the presented article, a broader analysis of this problem was undertaken, trying to answer what determines the company's recognition as socially responsible.

    The publication presents the results of research on the scope of practical use of available methods and tools of quality management by enterprises. The analysis was based on surveys conducted at the Production Management Institute of the Faculty of Production Engineering and Materials Technology of the Częstochowa University of Technology. The presented study applies only to the information collected so far as the research work commenced is still being continued. Currently, data (correctly completed questionnaires) has been collected from fifty one small, medium and large production companies located primarily in the Śląskie and Łódzkie region. Both the organizations surveyed for the needs of this project and the cases cited in the literature indicate that the group of the most commonly used tools and methods is quite limited and in a sense comes down to the most known. This situation may partly result from the specifics of the industry and the nature of production. In addition, providing questionnaire response suggestions (as examples, the most frequently used methods and techniques) may have influenced the choices made by the respondents. At the same time, in some cases, low awareness or insufficient substantive knowledge may have contributed to the belief among the respondents that the techniques are implemented in the enterprise while in reality these techniques have never been used. All remarks and observations noticed at this stage of the research will be taken into account in subsequent analyzes.

The article presents a general structure of the OSH Management Systems in accordance to the new standard and underlines requirements specific to chosen OSH management processes – either broadened or refined in relation to requirements formed in the presently existing standards.

    This is the final push for the new Occupational Safety & Health standard ISO 45001 Occupational health and safety management systems - Requirements with guidance for use which has been under preparation since 2013. It is widely expected for the new standard to be published in 2018 at the latest. The adjustment of the OSH Management Systems to the requirements of the new standard will take a thorough analysis of the already implemented processes and management practices. The article presents a general structure of the OSH Management Systems in accordance to the new standard and underlines requirements specific to chosen OSH management processes- either broadened or refined in relation to requirements formed in the presently existing standards.

    The main intention of the article is to define the role of an internal audit in a company risk management process, as well as to familiarize the reader with the methods of risk assessment. The article describes the risk included in the International Standards of Internal Auditing Practices. The author’s intention is also to determine the way an internal audit plan is being created. Furthermore, the article describes methods of the internal risk identification by the internal auditor and explains what the risk analysis methods are.

    The need for creating content repository stores for e-learning systems grows as the number of available materials increases. Moreover, along with the number of courses, the problem of describing them in a unified form appears. While there are standards used for strict classification of e-learning content, the store model still seems to be based on preservative relational databases approach. In this paper we introduce an idea to represent the e-learning content management information in the well organized object-oriented form based on a prospective object-oriented database.

    Opis:
    As we deal with risk in many aspects and in different phases of the technical object's life cycle, we should choose and apply proper methods for risk assessment. Some of the methods are common and typical, and some of them are rarely used. The paper presents a general overview of the methods and techniques, which are to be of use in the risk assessment, namely, in the risk analysis. Obviously, we have to take into account such methods applicable for risk reconnaissance as well as the risk treatment. Nevertheless, the methods of risk analysis are the most frequently used and not very well known at the same time. Due to limited space, the paper offers only a general overview and not very deep and comprehensive information.
    Aby prawidłowo zarządzać ryzykiem w różnych aspektach i w różnych fazach życia obiektu technicznego, należy wybrać i zastosować właściwe metody oceny ryzyka. Niektóre z metod są powszechnie stosowane i typowe, innych używamy bardzo rzadko. Artykuł przedstawia ogólny przegląd metod i technik, które mogą być wykorzystane w ocenie ryzyka, a mianowicie - w analizie ryzyka. Oczywiście podczas takiej oceny należy wziąć pod uwagę zarówno metody wykorzystywane do identyfikacji, jak i minimalizowania ryzyka. Jednak to metody analizy ryzyka są najczęściej wykorzystywane, jednocześnie często będąc mało znanymi. Ze względu na ograniczoną ilość miejsca, artykuł prezentuje jedynie generalny przegląd informacji na temat istniejących metod i technik stosowanych podczas oceny ryzyka.

    Pracownicy są najważniejszym ogniwem w ochronie informacji wewnątrz organizacji, gdyż to właśnie oni posiadają regularny dostęp do jej zasobów informacyjnych. Fakt ten jest dobrze rozpoznany przez krajowe oraz międzynarodowe instytucje standaryzujące, które w publikowanych normach zalecają kształcenie, szkolenia i podnoszenie świadomości pracowników jako kluczowy element strategii ochrony informacji przedsiębiorstw. W artykule przedstawiono obowiązujące standardy zarządzania bezpieczeństwem informacji i wskazano miejsca, gdzie definiowane są właściwe polityki, role, odpowiedzialności i działania związane z kształceniem i podnoszeniem świadomości. Następnie zaprezentowano przykład realizacji tych zaleceń w postaci włączenia do programu nauczania Wydziału Zarządzania i Ekonomii Politechniki Gdańskiej przedmiotu „Zarządzanie bezpieczeństwem informacji”. Opisano też doświadczenia i obserwacje wynikające z prowadzenia przedmiotu.
    Security experts agree that people are the critical factor in protection of organisations’ cyber assets. The end-users access the assets on a regular basis and in most cases either they lack the security knowledge necessary to protect them or they know how to avoid protection mechanisms – in both cases the result is the same, namely the exposure of the cyber assets to threats. At the same time the majority of organisations concentrate their information security budget on technical solutions. This is because technical methods are well-defined (thus – comprehensible) and give an illusion that when applied all security issues will be solved. Acquire a “box” – an anti-virus, a firewall or an anti-malware – install it, and consider the problem solved. This approach tends however to be ineffective. Surveys show that despite the gradually increasing investments in technical controls the number of intrusions reported annually also continues to rise. Interestingly, there are reports claiming that the majority of breaches were caused by insiders. Technical solutions cannot make a network more secure than activities of people who use it, because poor user practices overcome the even the most carefully planned security system. Educating and raising security awareness among personnel is like expanding the information security department into the whole organisation. Instead of few security experts trying to protect the network, security manager has at his/her support each employee of the organisation taking care of the security interests of the company. This establishes some sort of a “human firewall” that will be very likely more efficient than a technical solution, and in contrast to it, able to recognise unknown, previously undetected threats. The importance of Security Education, Training and Awareness (SETA) is today widely recognised in the cybersecurity domain. The relevant security requirements and controls are described in majority if not all of security standards. The number of SETA initiatives continues to grow. In this paper security requirements and controls in the information security management standards are presented, followed by the description of an example of their realisation: teaching information security management at the Faculty of Management and Economics of Gdańsk University of Technology.
