    Purpose of the conducted research was to analyze a processual dimension of transformations of a disabled person’s life, which take place under influence of experiences related to sport practicing. A basis for realization of the purpose mentioned above were personal experiences of the researched individuals. Hence, the research exploits qualitative data, collected during unstructured interviews, conducted among the disabled practicing sports. Analysis and interpretation of the research material was performed in accordance with procedures of the grounded theory. The article has been prepared as a consequence of research carried out between 2012 and 2015, among a society of the disabled, who practice professional sports. This research poses an attempt to develop a general characteristic related to the sports career path, which regarding its specificity, is strongly rooted in the institutionalized inclusion practices, as well as continuing and maintaining the main actions, which is sport practicing by the disabled individuals.
    Celem przeprowadzonych badań była analiza procesualnego wymiaru przemian w życiu osoby niepełnosprawnej dokonująca się pod wpływem doświadczeń związanych z uprawianiem sportu. Podstawą do realizacji powyższego celu były osobiste doświadczenia badanych osób. Z tego względu w badaniach wykorzystałem dane jakościowe uzyskane za pomocą wywiadów swobodnych, przeprowadzone wśród osób niepełnosprawnych uprawiających sport. Analiza i interpretacja materiału badawczego prowadzona była zgodnie z procedurami metodologii teorii ugruntowanej. Artykuł powstał jako rezultat badań przeprowadzonych w latach 2012–2015 wśród społeczności osób niepełnosprawnych zajmujących się uprawianiem sportu wyczynowego. Badania te stanowią próbę ogólnej charakterystyki dotyczącej ścieżki kariery sportowej, która ze względu na swoją specyfikę ma silne zakorzenienie w zinstytucjonalizowanych praktykach inicjacyjnych dotyczących włączania, kontynuowania i podtrzymywania głównego działania, jakim jest uprawianie sportu przez osoby niepełnosprawne.

    Artykuł porusza kwestie przemian dokonujących się w życiu osoby niepełnosprawnej fizycznie, które powodowane są jej zaangażowaniem w aktywność sportową. W artykule staram się wykazać, że uprawianie sportu poprzez pracę nad ciałem może stworzyć warunki do samopoznania osoby z niepełnosprawnością fizyczną oraz do przemian dokonujących się w percepcji siebie. Jednocześnie staram się pokazać, że uprawianie sportu przez osoby z niepełnosprawnością przyczynia się do zmian sposobu postrzegania tych ostatnich przez ludzi pełnosprawnych, skutecznie niwelując takie zjawiska jak wykluczenie czy społeczna marginalizacja. W badaniach wykorzystane zostały dane jakościowe zdobyte za pomocą techniki pogłębionego wywiadu swobodnego przeprowadzonych wśród osób niepełnosprawnych uprawiających sport. Metodą badawczą jest etnografia, która oparta została na procedurach metodologii teorii ugruntowanej.
    The article addresses the issue of changes that take place in the life of a physically disabled person, which is caused by his/her engagement in sport activity. In the article I make an attempt to prove that practicing sport through body work may provide conditions for self-discovery of a person with physical disability, and for transformations in perceiving oneself. At the same time, I try to demonstrate that sport practiced by the disabled supports changes of the manner, in which they are perceived by able bodied persons, effectively leveling such phenomena as exclusion or social marginalization. The qualitative data used in the research were collected through an in-depth free interview and observation conducted among the disabled who practice sport. The analysis and interpretation of research are of ethnographic character and are based on the procedures of the grounded theory.

    This article is based on a study in which the interactions in a sports club between persons with physical disabilities and their non-disabled colleagues were observed. The purpose of the study was to understand and describe the problems faced by sports participants with disabilities when operating within a social, organizational, and physical environment that was not designed for the disabled. The study made it possible to reconstruct how definitions of key notions and situations are developed as a basis for creating and maintaining the interaction order between disabled and non-disabled sports participants. The study used data compiled from open observation of participants and semi-structured interviews. The phenomena were analyzed in accordance with the procedures of Grounded Theory. Symbolic interactionism was used as a theoretical framework in the interpretative paradigm.

    The article raises the notions of changes that take place in the life of a physically handicapped person which are caused by their engagement in a sports activity. In the article I make an attempt to reconstruct the detailed mechanisms of sport’s influence on the life of a physically handicapped person, pointing to the manner in which physical activity supports the reconstruction of self-perception, a redefinition of their role, and the acquisition of a cognitive perspective of people meaningful to the individual. I refer to the subjective perspective of those researched, rendering their own point of view into the major subject of analysis. Hence, the research exploits qualitative data, collected during in-depth free interviews and observations conducted among the disabled practicing sports. Analysis and interpretation of the research material was performed in accordance with the procedures of grounded theory.

    Celem artykułu jest analiza dyskursu medialnego dotyczącego sportowców niepełnosprawnych. W artykule skupiam się z jednej strony na sposobie, w jaki sportowcy niepełnosprawni i sport paraolimpijski funkcjonują w ogólnopolskich oraz lokalnych mediach, z drugiej zaś staram się rozwikłać przyczyny oraz skutki określonych przekazów medialnych. Jest to zatem próba określenia wpływu, jaki polskie media mają na postrzeganie sportu niepełnosprawnych przez pozostałych (przede wszystkim zdrowych) członków naszego społeczeństwa. Przyjrzę się zarówno ogólnej charakterystyce dyskursu istniejącego wokół sportu niepełnosprawnych, ale także odwołam się do opinii samych sporowców oraz innych osób ze środowiska sportowego, rekonstruując na tej podstawie to, w jaki sposób postrzegają oni istniejącą „sytuację medialną” i jak według nich wpływa ona na ich codzienne życie. Jest to próba skonfrontowania wizerunku medialnego sporowca niepełnosprawnego z opiniami i odczuciami samych sportowców.
    The purpose of this article is to analyze media discourse concerning disabled people in sport. On the one hand, I will focus on how disabled athletes and paralympic sport function in both national and local Polish media, and I will try to investigate the causes and effects of particular media transmissions, on the other. Therefore, it is an attempt to define in what ways Polish media influence how other (especially healthy) members of our society see the sport of the disabled. I will take a closer look both at an overall characteristics of the discourse which surrounds the question of the sport of the disabled, but I also will refer to the opinions of disabled athletes and other members of the sport society. This will help to demonstrate their view on the current “media situation” and on how it influences their everyday life. It is an attempt to confront the media image of disabled athletes with their opinions and feelings as athletes.

    The purpose of the conducted research was to analyze the processual dimension of the transformations of a disabled person’s life which take place under the influence of experiences related to practicing sport. Therefore, the article attempts to discuss the issues related to the influence of sport institutions responsible for the organization of sport practiced by physically disabled individuals in their care. In the article, I try to prove the similarity of the sport structure with the educational system structure where, apart from the strictly educational functions, there are also socialization processes taking place, diverse in terms of measures and results. The basis for the realization of the purpose mentioned above was the personal experiences of the researched individuals. Hence, the research exploits qualitative data collected during participant observations and in-depth free interviews conducted among the disabled practicing sports. Analysis and interpretation of the research material was performed in accordance with the procedures of grounded theory. The article has been prepared as a consequence of research carried out between 2012 and 2015 among the society of the disabled who practice professional sports. The studies are related to the characteristics of a sports career of the disabled, which, regarding its specificity, is deeply rooted in institutionalized initiation practices regarding inclusion, continuance and the maintenance of the main action, i.e., practicing sport.

    Disabled people are a social category that is very often at the effect of the stereotypes and prejudices prevalent in society. Frequently such persons suffer marginalization or exclusion. A disability can be the source of a stigma that defines the life of a human being both in the individual and social dimension. Only a portion of disabled persons manage to counteract the social stigmatization effectively, and above all to overcome their own fears about appearing in public with a body that is not fully functional. The author presents the changes occurring in the lives of persons with physical disabilities after their engagement in sports activities. Using Fritz Schütze’s theory of process structures and Anselm Strauss’s work on identity, he tries to show that engaging in sports could make it possible for a disabled person to move from a trajectory of suffering as a stigmatized person toward a biographical plan of action involving specific turning points and a reconstruction of the person’s ego.

    Celem artykułu jest pokazanie, jak na tle istniejących uwarunkowań społecznych oraz instytucjonalnych realizowana jest koncepcja integracji i inkluzji społecznej osób niepełnosprawnych, w której najważniejsze miejsce zajmuje aktywność sportowa. W badaniach przeprowadzonych wśród osób niepełnosprawnych, uprawiających sport, wykorzystane zostały dane jakościowe, zdobyte za pomocą techniki pogłębionego wywiadu swobodnego oraz obserwacji jawnej. Analiza i interpretacja materiałów empirycznych prowadzona była zgodnie z zasadami metodologii teorii ugruntowanej. Przeprowadzone badania dowiodły, że sport uprawiany przez osoby niepełnosprawne może wspomóc proces włączania osób niepełnosprawnych w szersze kręgi społeczne. Sport stanowi bowiem nie tylko szansę utrzymania sprawności fizycznej i zdrowia, lecz także wspomaga integrację i inkluzję społeczną osób niepełnosprawnych.
    Purpose of the article is to demonstrate the manner, in which the concept of social integration of the disabled, where crucial place is occupied by sports activity, is realized on the background of social and institutional conditions. There are qualitative data used in the research, collected through a technique of an in-depth free interview and observations, conducted among the disabled who play sports. Analysis and interpretation of the empirical material and existing data is performed in accordance with principles of the grounded theory. The performed studies proved that sport practiced by the disabled may support the inclusion process of the disabled into broader social circles. Sport not only an opportunity to maintain fitness and health, but also for social integration of the disabled.

    "Celem artykułu jest pokazanie, jak na tle istniejących uwarunkowań prawno-instytucjonalnych realizowana jest koncepcja integracji społecznej osób niepełnosprawnych, w której kluczowe miejsce zajmuje aktywność sportowa. W pierwszej części artykułu, nawiązując do literatury przedmiotu oraz dokonując przeglądu najważniejszych aktów prawnych, zarysowano rolę, jaką przypisuje się aktywności sportowej osób niepełnosprawnych w procesie ich społecznej integracji. Następnie określono zakres pomocy ze strony polskich instytucji państwowych i organizacji pozarządowych we wspieraniu aktywności fizycznej tej kategorii obywateli. W dalszej części artykułu przedstawiono rezultaty podejmowanych działań powyższych podmiotów, odwołując się do bezpośrednich doświadczeń osób niepełnosprawnych. W celu poznania punktu widzenia badanych osób posłużono się wywiadem swobodnym. Analiza i interpretacja materiałów empirycznych oraz danych zastanych prowadzona była zgodnie z zasadami metodologii teorii ugruntowanej. Z przeprowadzonych badań wynika, że osoby niepełnosprawne mają trudności w zaspokajaniu swoich potrzeb związanych z aktywnością fizyczną. Odczuwają też różnego rodzaju niedogodności i zmagają się z ograniczeniami w sferze finansowej, organizacyjnej oraz społecznej. W związku z tym potrzebne są zmiany w zakresie rozwiązań prawnych oraz instytucjonalnych, zapewniające właściwą realizację idei integracji społecznej osób niepełnosprawnych, w której istotne znaczenie miałoby uprawianie sportu."
    The article aims at demonstrating the concept of social integration of the disabled, in which crucial role is played by sports activity. It is presented on the background of legal institutional conditions. First part of the article, referring to literature of the subject and reviewing the most significant legal acts, outlines a role and a meaning, which are ascribed to sports activity of the disabled in the process of their social integration. The second part points to a scope of aid from Polish state institutions and non-governmental organizations in supporting physical activity of this category of citizens. Further part of the article is referring to direct experiences of representatives of the disabled persons’ environment, practicing various forms and types of sport. In order to investigate the perspective of the researched persons unstructured interviews were conducted. Analysis and interpretation of the empirical material and existing data is based on the grounded theory. The research suggests that persons with disabilities have some difficulties in fulfilling their needs connected with physical activity and sports practicing. They also experience various inconveniences, and they struggle with limitations in the financial, organizational and social spheres. Therefore, legal, institutional and organizational solutions need to undergo some transformations, allowing for proper social integration of the disabled, where a significant meaning would be physical activity and sport practicing.

    Celem artykułu jest analiza rekonstrukcji wizerunku dotyczącego dwóch kategorii osób niepełnosprawnych: aktywnych oraz biernych fizycznie. Z jednej strony skupiam się na sposobie, w jaki osoby niepełnosprawne postrzegają własną sytuację, biorąc pod uwagę ich status jako uprawiających bądź nieuprawiających sportu. Z drugiej zaś staram się określić to, jak wspomniane osoby rekonstruują swój wizerunek podlegający ocenie innych ludzi w zależności od tego, czy wykazują się aktywnością, czy biernością fizyczną. W tym celu odwołuję się do opinii osób niepełnosprawnych na temat ich samych (jaźń subiektywna), a także ich oceny tego, jak są postrzegane przez ludzi pełnosprawnych (jaźń odzwierciedlona). Innymi słowy, jest to skonfrontowanie wizerunku osoby niepełnosprawnej aktywnej oraz biernej fizycznie z opiniami i odczuciami dokonywanymi bezpośrednio przez badanych z ich wizerunkiem zapośredniczonym przez opinie innych ludzi.
    The article is intended to analyze reconstruction of an image related to two categories of disabled persons: those physically active and passive. On the one hand, I focus on the way, which the disable individuals perceive their own situation in, considering their status as persons who practice or do not practice sport. On the other, I attempt to determine how the said individuals reconstruct their image subject to assessment by others, depending on whether they are physically active or passive. For that purpose, I make references to the disabled individuals’ opinions on their own (subjective self), and their evaluation of how they are seen by the fully capable persons (reflected self). In other words, it is confrontation of an image of physically active and passive persons with opinions and feelings experienced directly by the respondents, with their image arising from other people’s opinions.

    Sport is one of the areas of social life where patterns of femininity and masculinity are defined. The body plays a basic role there, and competition almost always takes place with division into the sexes. Therefore, in the article I will raise the notions related to the non-standard bodies of a sportsman presented in the social space, with consideration of the division into the sexes. The sport body is a subject of interest as a product of socio-cultural practices. Hence, special attention is paid to the creation of particular categories and the relationships between them. The article raises the notions of changes that take place in the life of a physically disabled person which are caused by their engagement in a sports activity. The text is devoted to the problems of experiencing one’s corporeality, with division into the female and male body, and it serves to expose the similarities and differences of the sexes in sport for the disabled. Qualitative data are used in the research, collected through the technique of in-depth free interviews and observations conducted among the disabled who practice sports. Analysis and interpretation of the research material is performed in accordance with procedures of grounded theory.
    Sport jest jednym z tych obszarów życia społecznego, w którym definiowane są wzorce kobiecości i męskości. Ciało odgrywa w nim podstawową rolę, a rywalizacja odbywa się prawie zawsze z podziałem na płeć. W związku z tym w niniejszym artykule podejmuję kwestie związane z obecnością w społecznej przestrzeni nienormatywnego ciała sportowca z uwzględnieniem podziału na płeć. Przy czym ciało usportowione interesuje mnie tutaj jako przedmiot i wytwór społeczno-kulturowych praktyk. Dlatego szczególną uwagę zwracam na tworzenie określonych kategorii oraz relacji między nimi. Artykuł porusza zatem kwestie przemian dokonujących się w życiu osoby niepełnosprawnej fizycznie, które powodowane są jej zaangażowaniem w aktywność sportową. Tekst jest poświęcony problematyce doświadczania własnej cielesności, z podziałem na ciało kobiece i ciało męskie, i ma służyć wyeksponowaniu podobieństw oraz różnic sytuacji płci w sporcie osób niepełnosprawnych. W badaniach wykorzystane zostały dane jakościowe zdobyte za pomocą techniki pogłębionego wywiadu swobodnego, przeprowadzanego wśród osób niepełnosprawnych uprawiających sport. Analiza i interpretacja materiału badawczego prowadzone są zgodnie z procedurami metodologii teorii ugruntowanej.
