While analyzing the concept of adulthood the author points out to its ambiguity and thus indeterminableness in the world marked with rapid changes and transformations. Image of modern adult perceived by the youngest generation has undergone a far-reaching decomposition, if not deconstruction, to which the world wars greatly contributed. Nevertheless, adulthood in its mature form is a socially required and desired state; the condition for obtaining the status of an independent (autonomic) person is continuous learning. Systematic contact with various forms of education is also an effective solution to existential fears experienced by adults. A good way to neutralize such fears is to Concentrating on what we do at a given moment (“here and now”) embraced by the philosophy of “respecting the present” is a good way to neutralize such fears. However, the most effective remedy for existential fear is the development of the spiritual dimension of one’s personality, which brings internal freedom, sense of autonomy and independence from the world of things and phenomena that are the source of insecurity and fear. - Źródło:
