    Opis:
    In 2002, workers from the Chair of Forest Management of the Poznań Agricultural University carried out crown observations of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) trees in two working circles – Góra Śląska (Góra Śląska Forest Division) and Wschowa (Włoszakowice Forest Division). The basic of the study comprised experimental plot established in pairs on stands of the IIIrd and IVth age classes. A given experimental plot was made up of 25 trees from the main stand. The purpose of the performed investigations was to ascertain the crown condition of trees from pine stands and to determine whether and what extent the trans−border contamination from Legnica−Głogów Copper Mining Centre has an impact on this contamination.

    The paper presents the results of the investigation of the tree crown defoliation in different Kraft’s classes irrespective of damage zone, age class and forest site type. Biosocial position turned out to be itself a decisive factor influencing the significance of the differences in the mean defoliation of the crowns.

    In the year 2003, crown defoliation of Scots pines (Pinus sylvestris L.) of the 3rd and 4th age class was assessed on 90 test plots comprising, in each case, 25 trees derived from the main stand. This study comprises analyses and evaluation of the significance of differences of the mean defoliation of tree crowns of different Kraft classes from the same age classes and sub−classes as well as the mean defoliation of tree crowns of the same Kraft classes from different age classes and sub−classes (α=0.05).

    In 2007, crown defoliation of trees was observed in Scots pine stands in the Siemianice Experimental Forest District. The obtained results were used for the analysis of the mean size and variability of the top part and the whole crown of Scots pine in individual experimental plots as well as in the selected age and Kraft’s classes.

This paper presents the analysis and assessment of the significance of differences of the mean tree crown defoliation of different Kraft classes growing in the same site conditions and the mean tree crown defoliation of the same Kraft classes growing in different site conditions (=0.05). The following three forest site types were taken into consideration: fresh coniferous (Bśw), mixed fresh coniferous (BMśw) and fresh broad−leaved forest site types (LMśw).

    Opis:
    The objective of the study was to evaluate the health condition (defoliation) and vitality of Polish larch, fir, beech, pine and two native oak species growing on Chełmowa Góra in the Świętokrzyski National Park. Sample trees were selected using a survey sampling, simple random sampling without replacement (lpbz) and two−stage sampling (with lpbz on both stages) (l2s: I−lpbz, II−lpbz) were employed. The spatial distribution of the fractions of trees in defoliation and vitality classes in the stand allowed to categorize the examined species with regard to their health condition (from ‘best’ to ‘worst’) in the following order: Polish larch, beech, pine, oaks and fir (in the case of defoliation) and Polish larch, beech, pine, fir and oaks (for vitality). The estimation errors for the fractions of trees in defoliation and vitality classes ranged from 0.013 to 0.076.
