Opis:
The geochemical soil survey in administrative district Warsaw–West was arranged with 1x1 km grid pattern while the field work of particular interest (the former Cable Work in Ożarów Mazowiecki) followed the more detailed grid 100 100 m. Samples were leached with HCl (1:4); than AAS and ICP–AES) determinations of Cd, Co, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn were made. The geochemical survey reveals that occurerence of heavy metals in forest and agricultural soils is similar to the regional geochemical background. Small towns (Błonie and Leszno) with associated transport system and emissions of dust and gases from coal burning households are local sources of soil pollution with copper, lead and zinc. Geochemical anomalies related to industry have been dicovered in towns Łomianki and Ożarów Mazowiecki. Areas with high arsenic and chromium as well as zinc, lead and copper concentration were found in the environs of former tannery at Łomianki. Former Cable Work in Ożarów Mazowiecki is the main source of anthropogenic pollution of soils by copper and lead while the the soils around the glass smelter are significantly polluted by lead.

Opis:
Anthropogenic alterations of the recent millennia of our era, in the loess areas of the Lublin Upland are clearly visible in the composition and character of the sediments that fill river valleys. This paper is an attempt to review this issue on the example of a small river valley that runs through the loess relief regions near Lublin. Samples were taken from deep drilling (up to 6 m) in the three cross-sections of the valley (Ożarów, Jastków, Snopków). A total of 172 samples taken from 5 drillings were investigated. The results obtained allow to conclude that delluvial processes dominated in the course of sediment formation that filled the Ciemięga river valley. Those delluvial processes started in the Neolyth by climatic changes and cutting down forests for the incoming agriculture - and have been intensified since the Middle Ages up till now. It is seen in a clear correlation between the growing part of ash components and mineral interbeddings in the peat deposits, as well as in the presence of cereal grains and weed pollen from cultivated fields in the investigated samples. In the chemical composition of the sediments, anthropogenic enrichment of K, P, Fe, Mn, Pb, Cr, Cu, Zn, and Co is observed.

Opis:
City Recreational Parks (RP) exert important functions for inhabitants of great agglomerations. They create peculiar ecosystem subjected to high pressure of anthropogenic factors (ie, motorization, maintenance, dusts), which may be a source of heavy metal contamination. Four parks located within the city Poznan have been: RP Marcinkowski (RPM), RP Solacki (RPS), RP Wodziczko (RPW) and RP Piatkowo (RPP). The aim of the work was to apply different quantitative methods for assessing heavy metal contamination state of these parks and to outline the encountered difficulties in the choice of the appropriate method. On the basis of the assessment made by the IUNG suggestion [16], it appeared, that soils of all Recreational Parks may be considered as not contaminated by Pb, Cu and Zn. Cadmium was the main contaminant of RPM, RPS and RPW soils. The use of data representing the geochemical background [17], classifies soils of all parks as contaminated to polluted, even, whereas the evaluation made on the basis of mean heavy metal contents of Polish soils [18], stated that cadmium solely exceeded the reference value. Criteria reported in the Minister of Environment Directive [19] dealing with heavy metal thresholds seem to be less restrictive. The resulting assessment revealed that soils of investigated parks are free of any contamination.

Opis:
Recreational Parks (RP) of the city Poznan were investigated in October 2009 in order to evaluate contamination state of their soils by lead and cadmium. From the Recreational Park Marcinkowski – RPM, Recreational Park Solacki – RPS, Recreational Park Wodziczko – RPW and Recreational Park Piatkowo – RPP the soil samples were collected at two depths, ie 0–10 and 10–20 cm, in the quantity of 36, 52, 32 and 34, respectively. The total content of Pb and Cd was determined in these samples, as well as some their selected physical and chemical properties. Detailed assessment of the soil contamination state was undertaken on the basis of different indices such as geochemical accumulation index (Igeo), factor (C f i ) and degree (Cdeg) of contamination. The evaluation of soils made by applying Pb-Igeo has shown that parks may be ranged as follows: RP Piatkowo < RP Solacki < RP Wodziczko < RP Marcinkowski. The concern and threat related to the impact of Pb on humans requires more restrictive limits of content, hence geochemical background (GB) values as reported by Czarnowska [20] may be considered as more adapted for protecting from potential health hazards. In the case of cadmium, the Cd-Igeo based contamination assessment allowed to organize parks accordingly: RP Piatkowo < RP Marcinkowski < RP Solacki < RP Wodziczko. Cadmium contribution in the overall contamination (Cdeg) changed as did the Cd-Igeo indices. This was mostly reflected in the RPs Wodziczko and Solacki and intermediately in the RP Marcinkowski. On the basis of the performed geochemical evaluation of soil Recreational Park Piatkowo is the sole to be classified as free from Pb and Cd contamination threat.
Rekreacyjne Parki (RP) miasta Poznań zbadano w październiku 2009 r. w celu oceny stanu zanieczyszczenia ich gleb ołowiem i kadmem. Z Parku Marcinkowskiego - RPM, Parku Sołackiego - RPS, Parku Wodziczki - RPW i Parku Piątkowo - RPP pobrano próbki gleby z dwóch głębokości (0-10 10-20 cm) w ilości odpowiednio: 36, 32, 52 i 34. Oznaczono całkowitą zawartość Pb i Cd oraz wybrane właściwości fizyczne i chemiczne tych próbek gleby. Szczegółową ocenę stanu zanieczyszczenia gleb rzeprowadzono na podstawie różnych wskaźników, takich jak: geochemiczny indeks akumulacji (Igeo) oraz spółczynnik (C współczynnik ) i stopień (Cdeg) zanieczyszczenia.

Opis:
The aim of this paper was to assess differentiation in the total content of Cu, Zn and Mn under the influence of water erosion. The present author investigated parent material, eroded soils and delluvial sediments of a small arable-forest catchment of the moraine zone in West Pomerania. The average content of heavy metals in the parent rock (boulder light loam) were assumed as geochemical backgrounds of Cu, Zn and Mn. It was found out that erosion process caused differentiation in heavy metals. Zinc was the most mobile in this transportation; Mn was not sensitive to it. Delluvial sediments from arable (drainage) depressions had a clearly lower content of Cu and Zn than the parent material. It was also noted that Cu and Zn content in the forest area was lower than in the arable area of a similar relief and soil composition. Mn content was always higher in the arable soils. Soil-forming processes influenced differentiation of heavy metals in the vertical soil profile. The humus and Bt horizons (accumulation of silicate clay) were enriched with heavy metals. A decrease of heavy metal content was noticed in the eluvial horizon (Eet - outwash of silicate clay). The humus horizon of the investigated soil had, a natural (not increased) content of Cu, Zn and Mn.

Opis:
Research carried out on mineral soil with mechanically damaged upper layer proved greater variability of general aspect between species than between varieties within a species. Among the investigated species, the following had higher general aspect values during the whole research period: Festuca ovina, Festuca rubra, and Lolium perenne; while Agrostis capillaris and Agrostis canina had lower values. Significant differentiation of the general aspect evaluations were observed only in Festuca genera variations, whereas evaluations of the general aspect of variations within the rest of the species were close. Sowing time did not significantly affect di fferentiation in the evaluation of the general aspect of varieties in Agrostis, Poa, and Lolium genera. However, spring sowing positively affected the general aspect of the Festuca ovina varieties and the Terros variety (F. arundinacea).
