Opis:
An analysis of energy plants from the point of view of their suitability for remediation of oil-contaminated territories was carried out. Plantations of Salix viminalis L., Helianthus tuberosus L. and Medicago sativa L. were planted with the purpose of remediation of the territory where active oil production is conducted. The prospect of using Salix viminalis and Helianthus tuberosus as effective restorers of technogenically-transformed environment quality was revealed. The limiting factors restricting the growth of Salix viminalis on degraded soils were established, involving dry air and insufficient soil moisture. Medicago sativa is sensitive to the level of soil contamination by pollutants and can act as a phytoindicator of the environmental quality of oil-contaminated ecosystems.

Opis:
Degradacja obejmuje biotyczne i abiotyczne przemiany chemiczne.
The contemporary influence of petroleum substances on the natural environment, i.e. soil and water, is extremely large. Pollution of petroleum hydrocarbons in the environment causes enormous ecological effects and is usually introduced into the ecosystem anthropogenically. In soil, petroleum hydrocarbons affect the physical properties of the soil. The degradation depends on the nature, composition, physical and chemical properties. Degradation includes biotic and abiotic chemical transformations. The paper discusses the course of remediation works in the area contaminated with petroleum substances. The work uses the hybrid soil remediation technique, which turned out to be effective. The initial use of chemical oxidation reduced the heavy fraction of the pollutants. The successively applied proprietary treatment with the use of biological factors, such as autochthonous soil microflora or surfactants, allowed for a significant reduction of pollutants, not exceeding the permissible standard. The proposed hybrid technique may be an effective tool for the remediation of soils contaminated with oil derivatives.

The level of phytotoxicity of the soil samples artificially contaminated with the aviation kerosene was determined in the work. The dependences of the growth characteristics of the plant test system (flax) on the excess of the approximate permissible concentrations (APC) of the oil product concentration in the soil were identified. The change in the mass of raw material depending on the level of aviation kerosene contamination of soil samples was determined. A decrease in the plant growth activity with an increase in the content of aviation fuel in the soil was established. It was found that there is a hormesis effect at certain concentrations of aviation kerosene in the soil. The comparison of the concentration dependences of the action of petroleum products on the growth rates of seedlings and their dependence on the distance to the source of pollution allowed in the latter case to conduct a kind of “dosimetry” on exposure concentrations when the petroleum product concentration was not determined.

Opis:
Oil pollution is a hazard both in terms of scale and toxicity. Oil and oil products cause poisoning, death of organisms and soil degradation. The natural self-purification of natural objects from pollution depends on the natural conditions of the region, the presence of moisture, heat and the activity of the vital activity of the soil biocenosis. Under the conditions of Siberia, where a low temperature regime is maintained for a long time, self-purification is a long process. As a result of the long industrial use of the Medvezhye oil and gas condensate field, the soils of this area have accumulated pollutants. Thus, it is required to assess the toxicity of the soil, as well as to provide the ways and methods to prevent its environmental pollution. One of the ways to restore disturbed landscapes is technical and biological reclamation, the features and results of which are considered in this study using the Medvezhye deposit sand pit as an example.

Opis:
Most of used mineral and organic sorbents are hazardous waste and, therefore, in accordance with actual law regulations must be converted thermally or deposited in the special landfill for hazardous waste. Up to now both methods are expensive and burning methods are still watch as a controversial method . The optimal solution would be sorption materials that could be used repeatedly, without the need for costly and cumbersome lanfilling. Sorbents, which due to their properties could be used repeatedly, are MSW composts generated from mixed or only organic municipal waste. In this study we have investigated the rate of degradation of motor oil on MSW waste composts from two different technologies. Comparison of degradation efficiency, was calculated in comparison to the commercial sorbents. As sorbents were used organic (Peatsorb) and mineral (EcoDryPlus) materials which are in common use and available on the market. Both commercial sorbents were different in case of pH value and amount of biogenic elements and organic matter. Composts used in experiment also were characterized with high EC value, what could be a factor of microbial activity inhibition. During the experiment the total amount of standard diesel oil available on every petrol station and individual n-alkanes with carbon chain length from C8 to C19 was determinate. For comparison additionally was determined content of C20 and C21 n-alkanes. During the experiment, there were observed more intensive oil degradation processes on waste composts in comparison to commercial sorbents. Microflora which use n-alkanes as a carbon source, ensured quick (noted after 22 days of the experiment), reduction of the amount of hydrocarbons contamination in the samples, and thus the possibility of re-use of compost as a sorbent. The observed rapid degradation process, indicates the direction of the recovery of compost waste, used previously as a sorbent for the removal of petroleum contaminants (diesel oil). Undoubtedly, this is a cheaper way than the thermal incineration or storage.

Opis:
In the pot experiment the effects of contamination of diesel oil of proper brown soil developed from light loamy sand on microorganisms abundance and activity of soil enzymes were studied. Diesel oil was applied at the following rates: 0, 2, 4 and 6 cm3 kg-1 of the soil. Trial was performed in two experimental series: amended or not amended with straw. It was found that soil pollution with oil stimulated development of Azotohcicer sp., oligotrophia copiotrophic and ammonitiers bacteria; whereas inhibited fungi proliferation, dehydrogenases and urease activities and did not affect actinomycetes number. Diesel oil addition to the soil reduced positive effects of straw on microbiological and biochemical soil properties. Oil pollution adversely affected growth and development of triticale. Straw amendment diminished level of oil toxicity to triticale.
