    This paper contains an introduction to a selection of papers across social sciences and humanities, based on empirical explorations and theoretical conceptualizations. Authors highlight the issues of parental roles, parental styles, child and family positioning in the family and society. The lens of children’s rights and participatory approaches is also discussed. Authors focus on diverse practices in parenting, different approaches to children’s agency and freedom of choice, family as a negotiated space mediated by culture, children’s position in family and society, life chances and wellbeing, critical approaches to children’s rights perspectives, early intervention, socio-political context, finally Freire’s and Korczak’s pedagogies.

    The article presents the development, directions and areas of scientific research conducted by scholars at the Department of Social Pedagogy at the University of Silesia in Katowice from the beginning of the Department’s existence (1980/1981) until 2018. The conducted analyses emphasize first of all the expansion of research areas and the successive formation of the so-called “school” of social pedagogy characteristic of our academic centre. The areas of interest of the Department’s research staff correspond to the cognitive and research needs resulting from the current socio-cultural transformations that are significant for the course of socialization and upbringing processes. The results of scientific research have been reflected, among others, in scientific publications (monographs and articles), and the titles of the most important ones are given in the article.

    The contribution analyzes the most important risks of the present youth subcultures and the opportunities for social work and social pedagogy with regard to the problems of youth subcultures. The basic characteristics of youth subcultures is described as well as their social development, types and forms. The central meaning is inscribed to the possibilities of interdisciplinary coaction of social pedagogy and social work when solving specific problems of youth subcultures in the process of socialization during free time or at the penetration of social deviations. A specific attention is paid to the definition of the professional roles of social workers and social pedagogues in relation to the risky youth subcultures.

    Personalizm to nadanie czemuś charakteru osobistego, osobowość człowieka, wychowanie osoby − aksjologia to wartości − a resocjalizacja to przemiana (zmiana) − osobowości jednostki (osoby) ukierunkowanej na stronę wolności, samodzielnego podejmowania decyzji i pełnienie ról społecznych, mającej możliwość autonomicznego i wolnego decydowania. Celem artykułu jest rozwinięcie (interpretacja, kontynuacja) ostatniego akapitu mojej − będącej studium naukowym − publikacji, uwzględniającej osiągnięcia współczesnej pedagogiki, psychologii penitencjarnej i nauczania Magisterium Kościoła, pt.: Destygmatyzacja przestępców w świetle Magisterium Kościoła oraz poglądów na resocjalizację. W ramach swoich rozważań pedagogiczno-resocjalizacyjnych, w zgodzie z wymową Magisterium Kościoła, sformułowałem koncepcję (współbrzmiącą z szeroko pojmowanym nurtem humanistyczno- egzystencjalnym, m.in. z psychologią humanistyczną i pozytywną, a także z wychowaniem aksjologicznym ukierunkowanym na osobowościowy potencjał człowieka), którą nazwałempersonalistyczną aksjologią resocjalizacji. Metodologią zastosowaną przy pisaniu przedmiotowej publikacji stało się przeprowadzenie krytycznej analizy literatury, w tym własnego dorobku naukowego i innych dokumentów, w tym dostępnych zasobów internetowych.
    Personalism is giving something a personal character, human personality, upbringing a person, axiology means values, and rehabilitation is a transformation (change) of personality of an individual (person) directed towards freedom, independent decision making and performing social roles. The aim of the article is to develop (interpret, continue) the last paragraph of my publication, which is a scientific study, taking into account the achievements of modern pedagogy, penitentiary psychology and the teaching of the Magisterium of the Church, entitled: Destygmatyzacja przestępców w świetle Magisterium Kościoła oraz poglądów na resocjalizację. cordance with the meaning of the Magisterium of the Church, I have formulated a concept (which is consistent with the broadly understood humanistic and existential trend, including humanistic and positive psychology, as well as axiological education focused on the personality potential of a human), which I have called the personalistic axiology of rehabilitation. Celem artykułu jest rozwinięcie (interpretacja, kontynuacja) ostatniego akapitu mojej − będącej studium naukowym − publikacji, uwzględniającej osiągnięcia współczesnej pedagogiki, psychologii penitencjarnej i nauczania Magisterium Kościoła, pt.: Destygmatyzacja przestępców w świetle Magisterium Kościoła oraz poglądów na resocjalizację. W ramach swoich rozważań pedagogiczno-resocjalizacyjnych, w zgodzie z wymową Magisterium Kościoła, sformułowałem koncepcję (współbrzmiącą z szeroko pojmowanym nurtem humanistyczno-egzystencjalnym, m.in. z psychologią humanistyczną i pozytywną, a także z wychowaniem aksjologicznym ukierunkowanym na osobowościowy potencjał człowieka), którą nazwałem personalistyczną aksjologią resocjalizacji. Metodologią zastosowaną przy pisaniu przedmiotowej publikacji stało się przeprowadzenie krytycznej analizy literatury, w tym własnego dorobku naukowego i innych dokumentów, w tym dostępnych zasobów internetowych.
    Personalism means giving something of a personal character, the personality of a person, raising a person – axiology is a value – and resocialization is a change (change) – personality of a person oriented towards the side of freedom, independent decision making and social roles having the possibility of autonomous and free decision making. The aim of the article is to develop (interpretation, continuation) the last paragraph of my – a scientific study –publication, taking into account the achievements of contemporary pedagogy, penitentiary psychology and teaching of the Church’s Magisterium: Destigmatization of criminals in the light of the Church’s Magisterium and views on rehabilitation. As part of my pedagogical and social rehabilitation considerations, in accordance with the pronunciation of the Church’s Magisterium, I formulated a concept (in harmony with the broadly understood humanistand existential trend, including humanistic and positive psychology, as well as axiological education directed at the personality potential of a human being). I called the personalistic axiology of resocialization. The methodology used to write this publication was to conduct a critical analysis of literature, including my work and other documents, including available Internet resources.
