    Homeless people are one of the most endangered groups of social work. They are multiply marginalized, discriminated in living conditions, financial aid, in the labor market and in supportive relationships. They require crisis intervention due to superimposed problems as a result of which they are in danger of health and life (Olah and coll., 2006). From our experience, we would like to state that there is no way to objectively assess why someone became homeless. Speculation that „it is their fault, they can blame themselves“ and so they must help themselves to get off the streets, we consider very unprofessional. None of the people on the street did not plan to live their lives like this. Those, who has chosen this way of life seemingly freely, responded this way to the uncontrolled living situations such as: divorce, illness (to which belong also addiction), unfavorable social situation and the material need etc. The causes are fairly well described and well known to the general public. Much less are described obstacles to their return to the intact society.

    Aim. The main aim of the authors of this study is to indicate the problem areas of individuals and the families during the pandemic and post-pandemic situation which occurred in connection with a deteriorating social and societal situation. Methods. Using a literary descriptive and deductive method, the authors identify, indicate and analyze not only epidemiological measures and the possibilities of applying social interventions in the individual and in the family, but also draw attention to state measures taken to manage new conditions of family life. Results. The analysis indicates a broad issue that affects individuals, families, and groups, as well as societal sectors. The authors point to the provision of interventions through social work, which takes into account the basic characteristics of the family. Social intervention therefore becomes an important tool in solving problematic situations of any small or large social group. Conclusions. The pandemic and post-pandemic situation brought about a number of problematic situations that had to be solved dynamically and, in many cases, through crisis intervention. Forms of assistance to individuals and families brought cohesion and unity, but also brought a number of other concerns reflecting the current adverse societal situation into the wider environment.

    Rodzina stanowi podstawową grupę społeczną i strukturę występującą we wszystkich społeczeństwach w każdej z historycznych epok. Odgrywa ona znaczącą rolę w procesie przygotowania człowieka do funkcjonowania w społeczeństwie. Niekiedy ma jednak dysfunkcyjny charakter, co związane jest m.in. z pojawieniem się zjawiska przemocy w rodzinie. Niniejszy artykuł dotyczy zagadnienia przemocy domowej. Zaprezentowano w nim wybrane pojęcia wyjaśniające znaczenie terminu „przemoc” z podkreśleniem różnic występujących pomiędzy poszczególnymi definicjami. W artykule scharakteryzowane zostały formy przemocy. Poruszono również zagadnienie cyklu przemocy w rodzinie i opisano następstwa tego zjawiska. W ramach przeciwdziałania zjawisku przemocy w rodzinie wprowadzono formę pomocy działającą z ramienia państwa, którą jest interwencja kryzysowa. Zadaniem interwencji kryzysowej jest udzielenie bezpośredniej, szybkiej pomocy członkom rodziny najbardziej poszkodowanym, zaangażowanie do działań innych służby instytucji oraz towarzyszenie ofiarom doświadczającym przemocy. Osoby doświadczające przemocy w rodzinie mogą korzystać z pomocy oferowanej zarówno przez instytucje państwowe, jak i pozarządowe. Jedną z form państwowej pomocy jest Poradnia ds. Przeciwdziałania Przemocy w Rodzinie. Placówka ta funkcjonuje w ramach Warszawskiego Ośrodka Interwencji Kryzysowej. Zaprezentowane w artykule wnioski zostały oparte na analizie badań jakościowych przeprowadzonych z pracownicami Poradni.
    The family is the basic social group and structure found in all societies in every historical era. It plays a significant role in preparing a person for functioning in society. Sometimes, however, it has a dysfunctional character, which may be related to the emergence of domestic violence, among other things. This article deals with the issue of domestic violence. It presents selected concepts to explain the meaning of the term ‘violence’, highlighting the differences that exist between the various definitions. The article characterises the forms of violence and addresses the cycle of domestic violence and its consequences. A form of state-operated assistance, crisis intervention, has been introduced to counter domestic violence. The task of crisis intervention is to provide direct, prompt assistance to the most affected family members, and to involve other services or institutions and accompany the victims experiencing violence. People experiencing domestic violence can benefit from assistance offered by both state and non-governmental institutions. One form of state assistance is the Domestic Violence Prevention Clinic. This facility operates as part of the Warsaw Crisis Intervention Centre. The conclusions presented in the article are based on an analysis of qualitative research conducted with female employees of the Clinic.
