Opis:
Authors define and explain the meaning of two concepts, namely human and social capital and their influence on the socio-economic progress in agriculture and rural areas. The presented studies and analyses point to the link between the growing role of these two factors and the general socio-economic progress. A major part of the paper is devoted to analysing the past and current state of human and social capital in Poland, focusing on their deficiencies and the need to improve their quality. In conclusion the authors note that the significant inflow of financial means after the the Polish accession to the EU as well as structural and administrative changes will not bring in full the possible benefits in the future unless there is an improvement in quality and an increase of creative participation of the human and social capital. The health aspect is also explored in the paper as a crucial element influencing human capital in the Polish rural areas.

Opis:
As spatial diversity of economic development is one of the main problems of modern economies, researchers have attempted to define the conditions and factors influencing this phenomenon. Among others, two intangible factors are suggested: human capital and social capital (Herbst ed. 2007). The primary objective of this work is a spatial and spatio-temporal analysis of the diversification of human and social capital within the Polish NUTS 3 subregions. The two detailed targets are constructing composite indicator of both of the mentioned types of capital as well as examining spatial interactions between human capital, social capital and the GNP level per capita. The large diversification of human and social capital in the Polish subregions has been confirmed. Clusters of regions with low levels of human capital have been indicated, whereas in the case of social capital a grouping of its high values was observed. The research also confirmed the positive correlation between GNP per capita and human capital, with high values of both variables in the larget cities. Additionally, there are some subregions with high levels of economic development surrounded by low levels of human and social capital (Łódź, Szczecin, Wrocław). It is possible that high level of GNPpc in these regions was the incentive causing the relocation of human capital from the neighbouring regions. The correlation between GNPpc and social capital, where significant, is of the low-high type. These subregions are located in the east and south of Poland.

Model of rural development recognizes the necessity of local development based on local resources. Investing in the growth of social capital refers to the postulates of implementing an integrated model of rural development, where different local actors engage and cooperate for the common good. Challenges also face agricultural law. The social capital of rural areas is characterized by the bottom-up activities, locality and territoriality of initiatives, integrated approach, partnership action through local action groups, innovation in problem solving, independent management and financing of activities. It encourages local communities to work together to change their surroundings, solve urgent problems, invest in activities diversifying their income, for example through small entrepreneurship, setting up non-agricultural activities, agritourism, thematic villages, care farms, production of traditional, regional and ecological high quality products, folk handicrafts, crafts.

Purpose – An assessment of the level of social capital in the context of ethnic diversity using the example of the Podlaskie voivodeship. Furthermore, showing the relationship between social capital and local and regional development.Research method – Quantitative and comparative analyses of selected indicators of the surveyed terri-torial units (powiats of the Podlaskie Voivodeship) while maintaining the criterion of ethnic diversity. Data from the Central Statistical Office (Local Data Bank) and the National Electoral Commission for the period 2010-2018 were used. Results – The level of social capital is higher in multi-ethnic powiats, in particular as far as the civic dimension is concerned, which is measured by the use of passive and active voting rights. Similarly, the number of foundations, associations and social organizations per 1,000 inhabitants is higher in multi-ethnic powiats. As far as the level of entrepreneurship is concerned, the majority of powiats of diversi-fied nationalities is insignificant, while single-nation powiats have higher rates in relation to member-ship in sports clubs.Originality / value / implications / recommendations – A thesis which is popular in the subject literature that ethnically diverse areas are characterized by lower social capital is not true in the case of the Podlaskie voivodeship, in which ethnic groups have been present for centuries. Consequently, it may be assumed that ethnic diversity has a negative impact on the level of social capital only temporarily.

Opis:
The social capital of an organization is one of the key success factors of enterprises that build their competitive position in the market. This resource, obtained from social structures, can also be used to achieve goals set for public sector organizations, such as universities. Universities operate in conditions of high uncertainty, changing roles, and expectations of stakeholders, which requires adaptability and flexibility of operation. In addition to improving the quality of research and teaching, one of the important evaluation criteria is also the ability to transfer knowledge to the economy and commercialization of research. One of the activities undertaken by universities to support employees in ongoing changes is the implementation of academic scouting, introducing departmental innovation brokers who play the role of coaches/mentors, supporting research and teaching staff by commercializing their research results. The aim of the article is to show how the social capital of departmental innovation brokers supports the development of competences of scientific and research scholars. Based on the conducted qualitative research, it was presented how brokers use their social capital to achieve multidimensional goals in relation to other people, as well as organizational goals resulting from the entrusted function. Factors hindering the cooperation of departmental innovation brokers with academics, which are manifested in various areas of social capital – structural, cognitive, and relational – were analyzed.

The article shows the growing potential of social economy in the Podkarpackie, a region which in the recent decades has experienced fundamental economic transformation and mod-ernization of the entire social and cultural sphere. Despite the spectacular acceleration of growth, the Podkarpackie still faces such challenges as low salaries in economic operations, high rate of long-term unemployment, and unemployment among young people as well as economic migrations. Social economy is consistent with the region’s main strategic documents promoting inclu-siveness as a priority for development, and it creates real opportunities for preventing conse-quences of exclusion or for resuming one’s career and active social life. It also creates a unique opportunity for increased involvement of local communities and for awakening the dormant potential located away from major centres of economic, social and cultural life.

Besides other capital types, social capital is such a kind of capital, which is revealed by the confidence level of the society and certain financial facts. This study questions whether the social capital could be new dynamics for the developments of the countries along with other types of capitals (real capital and human capital). According to the recent research it has been concluded that the social capital has some positive effects to decrease the asymmetric information; to gain trust, information sharing and competitive power; to increase the participation in political life and social organizations; to fix the distribution of income; and to accelerate the economic growth. As a result, considering the fact that the countries with high confidence level have high humanitarian growth and high income per capita, it has been concluded that social capital may create new dynamics of economic development.
