Opis:
The aim of the present research was to evaluate the chemical composition and storage capacities, as well as the efficiency and composition of biogas from biomass collected from roadside verges. The biomass was collected in July and October and then preserved in microsilos (10L) with and without formic acid, bacterial inoculant, bacterial-enzymatic preparation, enzymatic preparation. After 180 days of storage, biomass samples were analyzed for chemical composition, organic dry matter (ODM) losses and biogas and methane yield (Oxi Top Control). Biomass from the summer period had a higher (p<0.01) content of dry matter, neutral detergent fiber, hemicellulose and cellulose and a lower (p<0.01) content of ether extract and acid detergent fiber. Loss of organic matter during preservation and biomass storage without additives was higher in the material from the summer period. However, when compared with the autumn period, summer biomass stored without additives had a higher methane production potential (288 vs. 215 LN CH4ˑkg-1 ODM). The additive which most effectively reduced the loss of organic matter was formic acid. However, the most beneficial for biogas efficiency and methane were the bacterial enzymatic preparation (summer harvest) and addition of formic acid (autumn harvest). Methane efficiency equaled 314 and 299 LNˑkg-1 ODM, and its concentration in biogas amounted to 60.4 and 59.4% for summer and autumn biomass, respectively. The results indicated the possibility of storing and using biomass from roadside verges as a source of biogas. The primary aim of using added preservatives was to reduce the loss of organic matter during biomass storage as well as to improve the efficiency of methanogenesis.

Opis:
Changes in the amino acid profile of protein during ensiling depend on the proteolytic potential of plant species, the rate of the wilting and acidifying of ensiled herbage and, on the other hand, on the microbiological processes and fermentation of amino acids. The interaction of these factors determines the subsequent efficiency of nitrogen utilization in the rumen. The aim of this study has been to determine the influence of ensiling in round bales on changes in the amino acid content in lucerne and red clover silages. The amino acid composition was determined by analyzing the content of amino acids in herbages and silages. The lucerne silage protein was characterized by a higher contribution of all amino acids except Trp in comparison with red clover silage. Ensiling in bales of wilted lucerne and clover herbage lowered the content of Asp, His (P < 0.01), Ile, Lys (P < 0.05) in both plants. The ensiling process and plant species affected (P < 0.05) the total content of amino acids per 100 g of protein, where the range of changes in both raw materials was different. The loss of amino acids observed during the ensiling of wilted lucerne in round bales should be regarded as typical, whereas changes in the amino acid profile of red clover should be considered as atypical. A significantly higher ADIN content in red clover than in lucerne silage indicates that a rapid and significant increase of temperature occurred in experimental bales, which were characterized by a low degree of density, and this temperature rise strongly affected the availability of amino acids of the red clover protein also to the current microflora in the silage. Ensiling in round bales changed the amino acid profile of the lucerne and red clover protein. The ensiling process in this technology, however, severely deteriorated the quality of the red clover protein by lowering the content of all essential amino acids except Cys and Met.

Opis:
Sida hermaphrodita as a crop plant could be used as raw material for the production of forage. The aim of this study was to evaluate the overall nutritional value of fresh and ensiled biomass of Sida hermaphrodita, harvested in the bud formation stage. The chemical and amino acid composition, fatty acid profile, concentrations of minerals and polyphenols of herbage and silage were determined. Additionally fermentation products were assessed in silage. Herbage contained crude protein (CP) of 182 g kg-1 dry matter (DM), neutral detergent fiber (NDF) of 375 g kg-1 DM and lignin content in NDF (L/NDF) was 8.88. Nitrogen fractions changed as a result of ensiling (P<0.010), non-protein nitrogen (NPN) from 274 g kg-1 total nitrogen (TN) in herbage to 683 g kg-1 TN in silage, and neutral detergent-insoluble nitrogen (NDIN) from 74.6 g kg-1 TN in herbage to 79.5 g kg-1 TN in silage. Silage was characterized by intensive lactic fermentation (114 g kg-1 DM) and pH of 4.30. It contained CP of 176 g kg-1 DM, NDF of 378 g kg-1 DM, and L/NDF (11.3) was higher than in the herbage. The CP of Sida hermaphrodita silage had a high content of essential amino acids (AAs) Lys, Thr, Val, Leu and Phe (3.98, 4.19, 4.55, 7.14 and 4.00 g 100 g-1 CP, respectively). Sida hermaphrodita silage was characterized by the highest K (6.262 g kg-1DM) content among macronutrients, and the highest content of Fe (40.88 mg kg-1 DM) and Mn (33.01 mg kg-1 DM) among micronutrients. Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) predominated in the ether extract herbage and silage, and their proportion was three-fold and seven-fold higher than the proportion of monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs), respectively. Herbage had high quercetin content (652 µg g-1 DM), which decreased by 45% during the ensiling. Changes in the chemical composition suggest that this crop plant can be preserved by ensiling. The results of this study indicate that Sida hermaphrodita can be used for producing high-quality silage for ruminants.
