Opis:
Observation of reality shows that the attitude of today's society towards the elderly is very heterogenous and ambivalent. Both positive and negative attitudes can be observed. What is more, one can talk about attitudes of indifference and a certain social distance. The main goal of the research is to show how attitudes towards the elderly are shaped in our society and whether demographic variables such as gender, age, marital status, place of residence, or level of education differentiate these attitudes. Can we talk about the formation of certain patterns among the younger generation, which create the image of older people in adults? The sample consisted of 1,025 people. The Scale of Attitudes to- wards Seniors (SPWS) by Łukasiewicz and Kowalski was administered. The entire tool consisted of 60 items divided into three sca les: Respect and Support, Rejection and Misunderstanding, and Social Distance. In order to examine the attitudes of the respondents to their grandparents and their role in family life, seven self-authored statements were attached to the questionnaire. The analysis of the obtained results shows no significant differences between positive and negative attitudes towards seniors. All attitudes are at a moderate level. The factors differentiating the intensity of attitudes were: gender, marital status, place of residence, and education level. The indicator of the development of positive attitudes towards seniors was the time spent with grandparents in the past and positive opinions about grandparents provided by par- ents. Earlier intergenerational relations are of no significant importance when it came to the intensification of negative attitudes. The research confirmed the existence of heterogeneous attitudes towards seniors. However, there is no clear advantage of positive attitudes over the negative. The conclusions from the research point to the role of broadly understood education in shaping attitudes towards the elderly. In the age of an ageing society, activities that show the significance of older people for society, and what value they are for all of us, become important. The family and multi- generational relationships play a significant role here.

The purpose of the review paper is to present the main aspects pointing at the need to treat seniors and pre-seniors as important buyers of tourist and recreational services. The article is divided into two parts. The first one indicates the basic conditions governing the recognition of the described consumers as a prospective segment of the tourism and recreation market. Also, it constitutes an attempt to clarify the terms of ‘senior’ and ‘pre-senior’. In the second part, selected data characterizing the tourist and recreational activity of seniors and pre-seniors in Poland are presented; here, the method of desk research was applied.

Physical activity is of key importance in prevention of chronic illnesses, such as cardiovascular disease or metabolic diseases. Lack of regular workout in seniors favors the development of these diseases. It is, therefore, advisable to change one’s lifestyle and engage in regular workout in order to reduce the risk of chronic illnesses and disabilities. The aim of this paper is to present how important physical activity is in prevention of chronic illnesses in seniors.

One of them is their lack of digital competences, which in consequence leads to their exclusion from modern social life. Given that modern Western societies are rapidly aging, this problem is becoming a social issue that needs to be addressed. A significant part of society must not be allowed to live as outcasts. In this situation, a question arises whether contemporary seniors are definitively excluded, or is age not an apparent premise in their case, and the problem lies elsewhere? The analysis of the collected empirical material revealed that the variable determining the level and type of social participation in virtual society is not age, but the level of education. Therefore, contrary to the prevailing views, seniors are not at risk of information exclusion and it is difficult to consider them as digital immigrants. Contrary to stereotypes, seniors are more distant, selective and pragmatic; independence allows them not to imitate culture and lifestyles, but to create them in contrast to the generation of their grandchildren.

Opis:
Seniors constitute large and constantly growing group of consumers. These „silver consumers“ form a potentially significant market segment for the near future. An ageing population has implications for pension policy, healthcare policy, but also market policy. In spite of the scope of senior´s group, little atten-tion was paid to this segment from the retail industry in Slovakia, and more re-search to identify their shopping behaviour is required in order to suggest relevant actions. Considering the need for understanding this market segment, the objective of our paper is to identify the specifics in shopping behaviour of the seniors market, with the emphasis on grocery products. Two main goals were stated as the key for our research: the identification of preference factors in the choice of a shopping place by seniors, and the factors influencing seniors decisions in grocery stores. To explore views and opinions of silver consumers in relation to a preferred place of shopping, focus groups were created. Questions regarding the patterns of shopping, decision factors and motives were also raised. A total of 126 partici-pants took part in the focus groups. Because the seniors are rather multidimen-sional and very complex segment, in order to indicate the key characteristics in the shopping behaviour of seniors, three age subgroupings in the large segment of seniors were formed: seniors aged 60-69, seniors aged 70-79, seniors aged 80+. The principal purpose of the focus groups interviewing was to determine the factors affecting store choice and shopping behaviour of older people. Recom-mendations on how the retail industry could respond best to silver consumers were developed based on the empirical outcomes.

Changes in the structure of Polish society and the dynamic ageing process make seniors, as consumers, one of the most important groups on the market. The article presents seniors in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship as an interesting group that is increasingly eager to use all the market opportunities offered to them. Their activity in many fields is an excellent tool against social exclusion. The newly emerging community requires specialists related to marketing, promotion and advertising not only to notice them on the market, but also to adapt marketing activities to their needs, interests, possibilities and wealth. The aim of the article is to present this special group that requires the development of new, not stereotypical marketing activities. It can certainly be predicted that there will be a dynamic increase in the number of social services offered - care, health and rehabilitation, and of goods and other services dedicated to the elderly. The problem of senior policy is a huge research field for many specialists related to the silver economy sector.

Partycypacja społeczna współcześnie zmusza wszystkich do życia i komunikacji wirtualnej. Kto jej nie podejmuje, staje się wykluczony. Na tej kanwie narosło wiele stereotypów i uprzedzeń, w tym powszechny o wykluczeniu seniorów ze względu na wiek. Tymczasem nie jest to do końca prawda. W poniższym dyskursie autor przytacza fakty i polemizuje z istniejącym mitem.
Social participation now forces everyone to live and communicate in a virtual way. Whoeverdoes not take it becomes an excluded person. A lot of stereotypes and prejudices arose on this canvas, including the universal about the exclusion of seniors because of their age. Meanwhile, this is notentirely true. In the discourse below, the author cites facts and argues with the existing myth.

Information technology evolves in order to meet the needs of ageing society. Despite the life-long learning perspective and availability of ICT courses, studies indicate that only a limited number of seniors take full advantage of possibilities given by mobile technology and the Internet. The question arises if the old are part of the Information Society or they are excluded from it. This article provides evidence that seniors underutilise the ICT devices and e-services and indicates the main lines of the recent debates on the current need for ICT education among older adults. The analysis of seniors’ ICT competence is based on a literature survey.

Pozyskany materiał empiryczny umożliwił ocenę częstotliwości wyjazdów seniorów, preferencji dotyczących zagospodarowania czasu wolnego podczas wyjazdu m.in. preferowanych form uprawiania turystyki czy też sposobu organizacji wycieczek.
The number of seniors in society is on the rise which makes them an increasingly significant group of consumers which forms a distinct segment of clients in various areas, including tourism. To create attractive offers for older travelers, it is necessary to identify and analyze their needs and preferences. This paper presents the results of an empirical study involving the method of a diagnostic survey using a questionnaire technique. The respondents were 49 participants of “Seniorada” picnic organized by the European Association of Physical Activity 50+ and Józef Piłsudski Academy of Physical Education in Warsaw. The collected empirical material provides data on the frequency of seniors’ travels, their preferences regarding the tour attractions, preferred forms of travelling and tour organization.

Opis:
The progress of digitization and the development of new technologies undoubtedly bring many benefits. However, they can also create or deepen problems related to the social exclusion of certain groups of people, such as the elderly, for whom modern technology is still largely unavailable, and even arouses a sense of uncertainty and fear (the so-called technophobia). The consequences of such a phenomenon become particularly evident in the situation of social isolation, whose unprecedented dimension is currently observed in the so-called COVID-19 pandemic era. In particular, the occurrence of the phenomenon of social exclusion combined with a pandemic situation has contributed to the development of the assumptions of the project entitled “Developing the cognitive capabilities of older people through information technology.” This project was developed by the INNOVATOR Student Science Club at the Faculty of Organization and Management of the Silesian University of Technology, and its goal is to develop a tool to support the acquisition of competences by seniors in the field of technological content, operation of electronic devices and the implementation of daily and routine activities using the Internet, e.g. shopping via the Internet or using tele advice services. The proposed tool is also to support the stimulation of the development of cognitive abilities of seniors using e.g. logical games. In the course of project implementation, a survey will be conducted in selected Nursing Homes, Retirement Homes, online forums for the elderly and through direct contact, the results of which will allow to learn the needs and possibilities of developing the abilities of the examined people, and assess the effectiveness of the designed tool in the process of transferring content and shaping competences. An element encouraging seniors to participate in the planned research will be their active participation in lectures and/or talks, workshops and discussions. The assumed result of the project will be to reduce the negative effects of isolation of seniors, improve their communication with their loved ones and reduce the generation gap. A complementary research task will be to develop a way to assess project results in qualitative and, where possible, quantitative dimensions.
