    This article touches upon the problem of organizing security space under the conditions of armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine in 2022. According to the understanding of the “security” concept, it is determined that the security space should put a state and its vital interests under protection from any internal and external threats. It is emphasized that in conditions of armed aggression, the central components of the security space should be international (global) security and national security. The main areas of international (global) security should include the development and control of weapons, the fight against international terrorism, the development by the international community of effective mechanisms for countering modern global security challenges (proliferation of mass destruction weapons, namely nuclear weapons). Inclusion of military, state, information and cyber security is proposed as the main areas of national security.

    Opis:
    The development of globalization at the beginning of the third decade of the 21st century shows that unpredictable economic factors and new trends have a decisive influence on its course. Examples include continued sustained efforts to change the balance of power, the relativization of the Soviet Union’s share in the defeat of Hitler’s Nazi Great German Empire, the growing influence of the People’s Republic of China and the Russian Federation, turbulent developments in Belarus, as well as the impact of COVID-19 pandemic. Based on these trends, a new global system of international economic, political, social and security relations is being created. The current, dynamically and rapidly changing world brings many positive, but also many negative facts, which are manifested in various areas of human life and society. This is evidenced by the existing and ubiquitous threats and risks that prove it necessary to put security issues first. The author reflects on the current development of the security environment and the degree of threat to the security of the nation states of the Visegrad Group on the threshold of the third decade of the 21st century. The aim is to answer the question: a) Is the security environment changing: a) for better, or b) for worse? The article points out the role of the main security actors and possible changes in the security environment.

    Global power shifts and the shaping of a multipolar world order with the new category of emerging/developing states/powers are reflected in the German foreign policy, focused on seeking and building new partnerships. In the security field, besides the traditional pillars of NATO, UN Peacekeeping operations and Common Security and Defence Policy of the EU, Germany pursues its own strategy towards emerging states, containing two components of different nature and based on various justifications: cooperation through dialogue, consulting and expert assessment, as well as arms exports.

    The issue of security explored in the article is undoubtedly one of the most fundamental problems of the modern world. This article considers the issue of broadly understood national and international security, which in the second decade of the 21st century is an issue considered on three integrally linked planes: global, regional and local. Political, economic and ecological conditions of security are integrally connected with psychologi-cal elements, considered both at the level of “homo sapiens”, as well as at the level of the world’s political, economic and military elites. They create aframework for shaping national and international security in the contemporary world

    The Asian Development Bank forecasts that within 40 years Asia will catch up with Europe and North America which means that it will regain its dominating position in the global economy. Among many countries in this region China, which has already become world great power, deserves special attention. A dynamic progress is also the characteristic of India, a country which competes with China for the access to energy resources. Thus, a great race of those countries has commenced to have access to those resources as well as to secure the routes of their transport. Due to the above situation, the Indian Ocean and the West Pacific have gain special significance hence the Middle East and Africa are for the aforementioned countries a resource base. This, moreover, overlaps with strategic interests of the USA, Russia and other countries. As a result it is the beginning of a big game between China and India and the prize is the security of communication routes on the Indian Ocean and the West Pacific, where also the USA have their strategic interests. A big game between China, the USA, and Russia is also carried put in order to gain access to natural resources in Central Asia including the Caspian Sea and the Middle East. In the above situation, the ASEAN countries have become important being the passage area between the Indian Ocean and the Pacific. This is because of the Strait of Malacca which is located in this area and passed by 50 thousand ships yearly.

    Współczesny terroryzm stał się w ostatnich latach synonimem strachu i niepewności jutra. W niektórych kręgach społecznych i politycznych nie rozważa się już pytania „czy” a „kiedy” przeprowadzony zostanie kolejny atak. Autorzy starają się porównać znany terroryzm, z końca XX wieku i obecny. W artkule poruszają kwestię terroryzmu jako narzędzia do osiągnięcia celów zwłaszcza politycznych. Mając na uwadze, że brak jest jednoznacznie określonego aktora/ów sterujących współczesnym terroryzmem a cele strategiczne są rozmyte, w związku z powyższym działania te można zakwalifikować do działań hybrydowych. Autorzy również próbują wskazać potrzebę przeciwdziałania współczesnemu terroryzmowi, analizując bardziej przyczynę jego istnienia niż koncentracji wysiłków na walce ze skutkami.
    Modern terrorism has recently become a synonym of fear and insecurity. In some social and political circles, the question of whether another terrorist attack will be carried out, is no longer considered. The authors try to compare the terrorism of the late twentieth century and the present one. In this article they touch the issue of terrorism as a tool to achieve a goal, especially a political one. Bearing in mind that there is no clearly identified actor (or actors) that controls modern terrorism and the strategic objectives are fuzzy, those actions are eligible for hybrid activities. The authors also try to point out the need of preventing contemporary terrorism by a better analysis of of the reason for its existence than the concentration of efforts on combating the effects.

    Artykuł wpisuje się w kontekst badań prowadzonych nad bezpieczeństwem w naukach społecznych z wykorzystaniem krytycznych koncepcji badawczych, rozwijających się w opozycji do pozytywistycznych paradygmatów, jak realizm czy liberalizm po zakończeniu zimnej wojny. Dodatkowo autor wykorzystał nowe podejście – studia globalne – do analizy skutków ekspansji tzw. Państwa Islamskiego (ISIS) na Bliskim Wschodzie i jego oddziaływania w ramach nowego terroryzmu międzynarodowego. Celem rozważań jest ukazanie procesu formowania się studiów globalnych (ang. Global Studies) jako nowego ujęcia badawczego i akademickiego w naukach społecznych. Zostaną także wykazane możliwości aplikacyjne omawianego podejścia i zostanie podjęta próba analizy ISIS i percepcji tego zagrożenia terrorystycznego z perspektywy historycznej, co stanowi wartość naukową w polskiej i światowej literaturze. W ramach opracowania wykorzystane zostaną również takie metody badawcze jak metoda komparatywna i analiza jakościowa. Podstawowe pytanie brzmi: na ile studia globalne odróżniają się od innych nurtów w kontekście analizy problemów bezpieczeństwa i stanowią użyteczne ramy analizy? Artykuł ukazuje możliwości adaptacji założeń Global Studies jako krytycznej i postkolonialnej perspektywy poznawczej do analizy tragicznych losów jazydów pod okupacją ISIS i roli mediów w przestrzeni internetowej, wykorzystywanych do kampanii propagandowych i rekrutacyjnych na niespotykaną skalę, jako długofalowego efektu Arabskiej Wiosny.
    The scientific article fits into the context of research on security within the social sciences with the use of critical research concepts, developing in opposition to positivist paradigms such as realism or liberalism after the end of the Cold War. In addition, in the article the author puts emphasis on methodological aspect, using a new approach – Global Studies – to the analysis of the effects of the expansion of the so-called Islamic State (ISIS) in the Middle East and its influence in the framework of new international terrorism. On the subject of research, the aim is to present the process of formation of Global Studies as a new academic research approach in social sciences. The application possibilities of the discussed approach will also be shown and an attempt will be made to analyze ISIS and the perception of this terrorist threat from a historical perspective, which is of scientific value in both Polish and world literature. Research methods such as comparative method and qualitative analysis will also be used as part of the study. The main question is to what extent Global Studies differs from other trends in the context of analyzing security problems and provides a useful framework for the analysis. The article presents the possibility of adapting the assumptions of Global Studies as a critical and postcolonial cognitive perspective to the analysis of the tragic fate of the Yazidis under the occupation of ISIS and the role of the media in the Internet space, used for propaganda and recruitment campaigns on an unprecedented scale, as a long-term effect of the Arab Spring.
