    Opis:
    This text refers to the situation of primary school, especially the seventh and eighth grades, after the educational reform of 2017. The author shows the negative impact of the reform on the functioning of students, parents, teachers and publishers in the new educational reality. The author points the conditions resulting from the reform, indicates their consequences for the organization of the educational process, the textbook market, shows the incommensurability of the new formula of the school to the needs and expectations of educational entities. Critically analyzes the concept of the eighth grade exam, based on the Informator o egzaminie ósmoklasisty… by the Regional Examination Commission. In conclusion, the author of the article argues that the negative consequences of the reform and the resulting consequences will primarily the hardest to lift for teachers and students.

    Opis:
    W niniejszym artykule podjęto problematykę zjawiska drugoroczności. Dokonano analizy literatury, na podstawie której wskazano, czym według wybranych autorów są niepowodzenia szkolne, jakie są ich przyczyny oraz jak przebiega proces, którego skutkiem może okazać się pozostanie ucznia kolejny rok w tej samej klasie. Opisano skalę tegoż zjawiska w Polsce i innych krajach europejskich, uwzględniając dane statystyczne dotyczące uczniów szkół podstawowych. Przedstawiono negatywne skutki drugoroczności oraz starano się ukazać korzyści, jakie mogą wynikać z powtarzania klasy. Celem artykułu było zwrócenie uwagi na to, aby nie postrzegać analizowanej kwestii w sposób, który koncentruje się wyłącznie na wadach i negatywnych konsekwencjach drugoroczności, ponieważ takie spojrzenie może okazać się bardzo krzywdzące dla ucznia powtarzającego klasę. Przedstawione w artykule informacje mogą przyczynić się do zwiększania powszechnej świadomości w zakresie omawianej problematyki, a co za tym idzie możliwe jest, że dzięki temu uda się uniknąć wielu negatywnych skutków, szczególnie społecznych, jakich doświadczają uczniowie pozostający kolejny rok w tej samej klasie.
    This article highlights the problem of the phe-nomenon of repeating a school year. The analysis of literature indicates, according to the selected authors’ opinion, school failures nature is predetermined by their causes, how the process takes place, the result of which may be that a student remains another year in the same form. The scale of this phenomenon in Poland and other European countries is described, considering statistical data for primary school students. The negative effects of second-year failure have been presented in the study, and an attempt is made to show the benefits which may arise from repeating a year. The aim of the article was to draw attention to the fact that the issue should not be perceived in a way that focuses exclusively on the disadvantages and negative conse-quences of a second-year failure, proving to be very harmful to a student repeating a year. The information presented in this article may contribute to raising general awareness of the problem, so that it is possible to avoid many negative effects, especially social ones, experienced by students remaining in the same grade for another year.
