The paper presents a computer software that uses a database of the MS Access format and is meant to facilitate management of protection setting calculations for bays in a MV network system. The database collects and saves information about the network topology, parameters of its component elements and about the applied protection devices together with their settings. Interface of the application supports the process of the network topology development and the selection of protection devices and their settings. It also makes possible to check efficiency of the protection equipment operation by checking their sensitivity, operation range, redundancy as well as coordination of the operation times.

The presented article aims to show the role of the subject ‘education for safety’ in the field of civil protection. This subject almost a decade ago replaced the previous one called “civil defence preparation’. Along with the changing conditions of Poland’s security, it became necessary to depart from strictly pro-defence education, emphasizing the military area of security in favor of issues related to protection against threats, preparation for disaster management, or fi rst aid. The question that the author tries to answer is: to what extent does the subject currently taught involve problems related to civil protection? At the same time, the author assumes the hypothesis that issues in the fi eld of rescue and civil protection form the foundation of education for safety. Contemporary youth acquire knowledge and attitudes that make their actions complement the activities of civil protection entities, both in terms of prevention and response.

At the present time, there are many abandoned areas and places that are affected by extraction activity, but which continue to be of importance due to valuable mineral resources. This article deals with environmental protection for their future use in terms of potential mineral resources. The area of Ruskov in Eastern Slovakia is typical with its rich deposits of andesite. Currently, there is no extraction activity at the site. The problem is related to effectively securing and protecting the environment for future use. The aim of the article is to indicate the possibilities for securing and protecting the area. The procedure can be applied universally to similar types of areas. According to the physical and chemical analysis of the water sample, the water in the quarry is of a basic high magnesium-bicarbonate type. The total mineralization 375 mg/l, pH – 8.4, content of Na – 13.4 mg/l, Ca – 41.1 mg/l, Mg – 26.2 mg/l, Fe – 0.04 mg/l, Mn – 0.012 mg/l and in the hydrogeological investigation the mineralization of precipitation water ranged from 25.8 to 48.0 mg/l, pH 6.0-6 6. From the comparison of values for inflows to the pit of the old Ruskov quarry and the values of groundwater runoff in the volcanic massif, we can state that only a part (approx. 50%) of groundwater from the volcanic massif is involved in the inflow to the quarry. The greater part of the underground runoff flows in the local sub-system to the local erosion base, which is represented by the valley of the Bystré stream, or it joins the flow of the intermediate stream (Olšava valley, erosion base). In the previous extraction activity in the Old Quarry of Ruskov, as well as after it was flooded in August 2014, no adverse effects on the flow and groundwater regime were observed in the evaluated area. Based on the previous evaluation of the hydrogeological conditions of the area, we can state that after the interruption of extraction at the Ruskov – old quarry deposit and the termination of pumping of quarry water, there is no expected adverse influence on the flow and groundwater regime in the evaluated area.

This paper shortly presents the issue of utilization of ships after their withdrawal from service. Information on number of floating units liquidated in previous years was presented. Hazards to the environment , health and life of workers employed in the Far East ship scrapping yards operating on the beaches, were indicated. Then, the most important rules which have to make the ship recycling process safe were referred to. This author proposed to supplement the rules by environmental hazard indices which would be determined already in ship design stage. According to the concept the indices should take into account amount of dangerous substances used for building the ship as well as degree of their harmfulness (weighing factors). Two approaches to the issue of determining the weighing factors were proposed: deterministic and fuzzy.

All applications of nuclear materials as well as of any sources of ionizing radiation are accompanied by a risk of radioactive contamination of the environment or unnecessary overexposure of workers and the general public. Such an incident may result from malfunctioning of devices (radiation sources, shields, monitoring systems etc.) or a diversion from accepted procedures; it may be also intentional (sabotage or terrorist actions). All such incidents may be harmful for the victims, but they also may ruin the image of a given technology, irrespectively of the country or institution where it has occurred. Safe, secure, peaceful and efficient use of nuclear energy as well as of any source of ionizing radiation requires sustainable tools, including infrastructure that provides legal, regulatory, technological, human and industrial support for that programme. Therefore, the measures assuring radiation and nuclear safety and security, including physical protection of nuclear materials and radioactive sources, originate from internationally established and controlled principles on which obligatory national regulations are based. Evolution of technologies and changes of global or regional political situation may lead to new threats which creates a need to introduce new legal and institutional instruments, both national and international. Poland seems to be well situated in the present nuclear and radiation safety and security system.

Ensuring the security of mass events rests with the various entities of public administration, the police, other services and institutions. Mass events both past and in today’s days require multiple coordinated action on the part of the organizer as well as other entities in order to ensure the safety of participants. Objectives: Possibilities of using drones in the ecological safety system. Methods: The main purpose of the research conducted in the form of a questionnaire was to get the respondents' opinions on the usefulness of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) to support the performance of official tasks. (The method of a diagnostic survey with the use of a questionnaire). Results: The collected research material showed that the UAVs are useful to carrying out tasks related to environmental protection. The main recommendations for usefulness of drones in the surveyed group of respondents from individual forest districts were as follows: 1) performing tasks related to fire protection; 2) making cartographic materials, inventory of damages caused by abiotic and biotic factors; 3) used to fight forest pests 4) missing persons searching; 5) detection of illegal dumps; 6) animals inventory; 7) water courses beaver dams monitoring; 8) forest health condition assessment and monitoring; 9) the possibility of quick localization of fires in hard-to-reach places; 10) UAV equipped with thermal camera would help in monitoring (animals tracking); 11) tourist traffic monitoring. Conclusions: The collected research material shows that UAVs should be used by services and state authorities that perform tasks related to environmental protection. The results of the surveyed group of UAV operators show that drones would be useful in "tracking" illegal garbage dumps. Public services and bodies should use UAVs to monitor illegal garbage dumps. According to the surveyed group, there should be higher fines for throwing waste (garbage) in prohibited areas.

For centuries, the period of war and peace was an essential stage in the development of the international order. Armed violence has been and continues to be an instrument of solving both internal and external problems. The nightmare of two world wars was an attempt to eliminate armed conflicts from the reality of international relations and the development of the idea of humanity. Over the centuries, effective legal and institutional arrangements have been sought to ensure the protection of the civilian population, which has been the subject of deliberate or accidental attacks. The current standards of international humanitarian law of armed conflicts allow for a certain degree of humanization of armed conflicts. However, there are known cases where these norms are not respected or even deliberately violated. In addition, it is left to wish that those who violate the civil protection legislation are held accountable.

The seriousness of an impact "large truck - motor vehicle" has been exhibited. The procedures of truck and motor car s crash testing were compared in order to point out the necessity of car s crashworthiness investigation in terms of compatibility and impacts between vehicles with large difference in mass and rigidity. Furthermore the paper explains a course of frontal impact between large truck and motor car in order to proof the necessity of cars compatibility as well as aggressivity investigation. The mass effect along with rigidity effect was exhibited as well. Moreover, the paper explains the design as well as objectives of the passive safety devices of both motor car and large truck. The concept of another, innovative passive safety device such as "active bumper" has been emphasized. Its working principia, adaptive control as well as the diagrammatically presented design were pointed out. The bumpers control is very difficult as it will be entirely independent from a driver and it has to operate in random condition, therefore, the paper contains a proposition of controlling algorithm of the "active bumper". It also contains explanation of adaptation of the "active bumper" with various working condition as well as consideration of the "active bumper" application with various types of large trucks design.

Today, every industry is striving for the highest efficiency and best economic results possible, with the greatest possible competitiveness. But in maritime affairs, human safety and environmental protection are the foundations of sustainability. To achieve this, marine systems must be reliable, high quality and easy to maintain. Because of this, reliability has become an important factor in safety, which remains relevant throughout the lifetimes of ship systems, including fire alarm systems. In this paper we address a number of issues connected with the reliability – and ‘availability’ of these systems. Firstly, ship fire alarm systems consist of various components whose individual reliability affect the system’s overall reliability. Discussions of reliability in ship fire alarm systems normally focus on the length of a system’s useful life or performance during design-based fire events. In addition to the reliability of systems, their availability for use is also crucial given the possibility that the system may need to operate at any point in time.

The aim of this article is to identify and discuss some issues related to functional safety and security management in hazardous industrial plants. The safety functions are to be realised using the electric / electronic / programmable electronic systems (E/E/PESs) or the safety instrumented systems (SISs) that are designed and operated respectively according to IEC 61508 and IEC 61511 requirements in life cycle. Although the role of functional safety solutions in effective reducing and controlling the individual and/or societal risks has been widely recognised, the substantial problems emerge when E/E/PEs or SISs operate in industrial distributed computer networks. Thus, the security-related problems appear that can introduce some additional risks. An integrated systemic functional safety and security concept is proposed, which includes general requirements as well as appropriate using specified methods and international standards.

Przemoc małżeńska jest trudnym doświadczeniem, na zawsze albo na bardzo długo burzącym spokój życia rodzinnego, odbierającym pokrzywdzonym poczucie bezpieczeństwa – jedną z najważniejszych potrzeb człowieka. Wobec tego problemu nie można pozostać obojętnym. W związku z tym system prawny państwa zapewnia określone mechanizmy, mające chronić osoby doznające przemocy. Czy są to narzędzia skuteczne? Przedkładany artykuł omawia to zagadnienie, udzielając odpowiedzi na tak postawione pytanie, w oparciu o wyniki badań zrealizowanych w ramach międzynarodowego projektu SNaP „Special Needs and Protection Orders” z programu Daphne III. Badania o charakterze jakościowym (wielokrotne studium przypadku) przeprowadzono wśród praktyków, na co dzień zawodowo zajmujących się przemocą w rodzinie, uzupełnione zostały o wyniki analizy akt z Sądu Rejonowego w Białymstoku. W zależności od reprezentowanego obszaru pomocy, wybrane sposoby ochrony kobiet doświadczających przemocy małżeńskiej oceniane są przez praktyków inaczej, bardziej lub mnie pozytywnie. Polaryzacja opinii jest rzeczą naturalną. Nie ulega jednak wątpliwości, iż skuteczność zapewniania bezpieczeństwa osobom pokrzywdzonym w wyniku agresywnych zachowań domowników jest coraz większa, a o wciąż istniejących niedomaganiach systemu trzeba mówić, by zostały one w przyszłości udoskonalone.
Intimate partner violence is a difficult experience for ever, or at least for a very long time, disturbing family life, robbing the victim of a sense of safety, which is one of the most important human needs. This problem cannot be ignored. Therefore, the legal system provides certain mechanisms designed to protect victims of violence. Are these measures effective? The article discusses this problem, providing answers to this question, based on the results of research conducted as part of the international project SNaP „Special Needs and Protection Orders”, which is part of the Daphne III programme. Qualitative research (multiple casestudies) were conducted among practitioners, whose work is concerned with domestic violence were supplemented with an analysis of case files from the District Court in Białystok. Practitioners evaluate selected measures of protecting female victims of intimate partner violence more or less positively, depending on the represented area of support. Polarisation of opinion is natural. However, there is no doubt that the effectiveness of protecting victims of aggression in the household increases, but the still existing problems of the system have to be addressed so that they can be improved in the future.

The paper presents the characteristics of the rail transport system, including passenger and freight transport during the Covid-19 pandemic. The entities responsible for the safety of the railway sector were presented, among which were the Railway Transport Office, the company PKP PLK S.A., and the Railroad Security Guard, which played the most critical role. The paper presents statistical data for railway accidents and casualties in 2018–2021. It was noted that the Covid-19 pandemic significantly reduced passenger and freight transport. 2021 was the European Year of Railways; it was also an exceptional, demanding, and significant year for changes taking place on the railways. Throughout this time, the Office of Rail Transport promoted rail as a safe, ecological, and comfortable means of transport. Based on statistics and empirical research, the main problems of the railway sector were discussed, and the research hypothesis was verified positively.
