    Opis:
    Purpose: the main goal of this article is to determine whether demographic changes threaten the development of the labor market and education system. Methodology: theses and research questions were verified by means of a group interview, carried out with a target group of experts representing nurses and midwives in their trade union organizations. The basic recording technique for the interview was sound and audio recording. Findings: demographic changes will affect the future shape of education and the labor market. The most serious challenge is the need to adjust education levels to the age structure of the population resulting from demographic change. There is a need to improve people’s competences by promoting the idea of lifelong learning. As a result of aging, labor resources will come from a much older population than today. This is a challenge of updating current training programs to adapt them to aging societies – and Europe’s competitiveness will depend on the quality of their employment and the efficiency of their work. Originality: knowledge presented in the article indicates that special attention should be paid to supporting the smooth transition of young people from education stage to the labor market, as well as ensuring the longest possible economic activity of people over the age of 50. Considering the above, it should be clearly stated that demographic, economic and social trends have led the period of economic activity of Poles and citizens of most European countries being extended.

    Purpose: the main aim of the article is to determine whether demographic changes and automation threaten the development of the labor market. Design/methodology/approach: theses and research questions presented in the article were verified by means of qualitative research conducted among representatives of national trade union organizations. Findings: the conducted research and analyses show that breaking the mental barriers to demographic changes and automation in order to strengthen their acceptance may play a decisive role in creating the development of the labour market. Originality/value: As evidenced by numerous sources cited in the text, the pursuit of development – in the phase of demographic change and the dynamic growth of automation – directly leads to economic growth in the dimension of both the state and local communities – favoring the social dimension of the individual and strengthening the human feeling of fullness of life.

    Rynek pracy w Polsce przechodzi obecnie wiele przemian o charakterze strukturalnym, co związane jest ze zmianami struktury demograficznej ludności, a szczególnie ze wzrostem liczby osób starszych w społeczeństwie. Efektem spadku liczby urodzeń i wydłużenia przeciętnego trwania ludzkiego życia jest postępujący proces starzenia się społeczeństwa. Liczba ludności zmniejsza się, a dodatkowo zachodzą bardzo niekorzystne, z punktu widzenia odnawialności pokoleń, zmiany. Zmiany te stawiają przed polityką rynku pracy nowe wyzwania, zmierzające do zwiększenia aktywności zawodowej osób starszych. Uwzględniając niedobór zasobów pracy, z uwagi na zmiany demograficzne, ważność polityki rynku pracy jest coraz większa. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest przedstawienie wpływu zmian struktury demograficznej ludności, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem zjawiska starzenia się społeczeństwa, na politykę rynku pracy w Polsce. Do przeprowadzenia badań wykorzystane zostały dane GUS oraz Eurostatu.

    Purpose: the main purpose of the article is to justify the need for rational inclusion in the scientific and economic policy of scientific assessments and analyzes of the effects of demographic changes on labor resources and Poland’s educational system. Design/methodology: theses presented in the article have been verified using literature review, critical literature analysis, documentary analysis, statistical descriptive analysis. Findings: Based on the content of this article, it can be stated that the effect of regressive demographic change due to the ongoing process of aging of the society will affect the labor market and education. In this light, the main challenge facing the European Union and Poland is to ensure a properly educated and skilled society that will effectively use their potential to achieve the assumed social and economic goals. Originality: the article enriches knowledge and develops discussion in the area of need to build a modern education system that responds to contemporary and future challenges. This is a system that, in line with economic goals and megatrends, will determine the successful development of the two most important attributes of human and social capital in the modern world - the universality of ideas and a dynamic competent society.

    Objective: The purpose of this article is to justify the need for interdisciplinary research on demographic change due to the need to prepare for the challenges arising from many public policies, such as family, labour market, education and social security. The identified challenges and areas imply a broad reflection, which should focus on a holistic approach to active social policy and the labour market. Design/methodology/approach: The theses presented in the article were verified using a: literature review, statistical research and comparative analysis. Findings: The changes, processes and forecasts presented in the article indicate that in order to reduce mismatches in the labour market in Jastrzębie-Zdrój, measures should be taken to build the future shape of urban policies – especially in the phase of aging of the society. Not taking this type of action may delay preparation of Jastrzębie-Zdrój for changes in the age structure of inhabitants, whichseems inevitable. Originality/value: The article enriches knowledge and develops a discussion in the area of dynamically developing demographic changes. Based on the conclusions presented in the article, it seems that the biggest contemporary challenge for the community, institutions and people creating Jastrzębie-Zdrój’s future may be maintaining the longest possible professional activity of the aging population of Jastrzębie-Zdrój while building a modern active social policy and labour market corresponding to the economic structure of cities.

    Zachodzące w Polsce od początku lat 90. XX w. zmiany demograficzne, związane m.in. z wydłużaniem się średniej długości trwania życia i jednoczesnym spadkiem dzietności, prowadzą do gwałtownego wzrostu wskaźnika obciążenia demograficznego. Uwidoczniły one proces coraz szybszego starzenia się społeczeństwa, zjawiska będącego poważnym problemem nie tylko stricte demograficznym, ale i społeczno-ekonomicznym, prowadzącego do stałego zwiększenia wydatków publicznych i zmian zasad funkcjonowania systemów emerytalnych, zwłaszcza obniżania wysokości świadczeń i podnoszenia wieku emerytalnego. Wzrost odsetka osób starszych w populacji winien skłaniać zatem do podjęcia działań zaradczych, mających na celu zniwelowanie choćby części tych negatywnych skutków. W artykule wskazano zatem na istotne powiązania przemian demograficznych z pogarszającą się sytuacją systemu emerytalnego oraz podkreślono, iż jego reformy, nie zawsze znajdujące szerokie poparcie społeczne, stają się warunkiem realizacji jednej z ważniejszych zasad zrównoważonego rozwoju społeczno-ekonomicznego, czyli sprawiedliwości międzypokoleniowej. Głównym celem artykułu jest wskazanie najważniejszych oddziaływań kryzysu demograficznego na zmiany sytuacji społeczno-ekonomicznej kraju, na przykładzie systemu emerytalnego oraz przedstawienie wybranych rozwiązań w celu lepszego przystosowania się do nowego porządku demograficznego. Uwagę skoncentrowano na konieczności zwiększania aktywności zawodowej ludności w wieku senioralnym, której potencjał jest wykorzystywany w niewystarczającym stopniu. Ze względu na złożoność i obszerność problemu, artykuł obejmuje jedynie pewien zarys poruszanych tu kwestii.
    From the early 1990s demographic changes in Poland, characterised by an increase in life expectancy and a decline in fertility rates, have resulted in an increase in the old-age dependency ratio. An ageing population poses demographic and socio-economic challenges which, in turn, lead to a steady increase in public spending and changes in the functioning of pension systems. Pension benefits may be reduced and the retirement age increased. The increase in the proportion of the elderly in the population should therefore prompt us to take countermeasures to eliminate at least some of the negative effects. This article points out the significant links between demographic changes and the deteriorating situation of the pension system. It emphasizes that the reforms of the pension system, which are not always widely supported by society, become a condition for the realization of one of the most important principles of sustainable socio-economic development-intergenerational equity. The main objective of this paper is to identify the most significant implications of the demographic crisis on changes in the socio-economic situation of the country, using the example of the pension system, and to present selected solutions in order to better adapt to the new demographic order. The focus is on the need to increase the labour force participation of senior citizens, whose potential is insufficiently utilized. Due to the complexity and comprehensiveness of the problem, the article provides only a limited outline of the issues.
