Successful management of an information technology (IT) project is the most desirable for all organisations and stakeholders. Many researchers elaborated that risk management is a key part of project management for any project size. Risk management is so critical because it provides project managers with a forward-looking view of both threats and opportunities to improve the project success. The objectives of this research are to explore organisational factors affecting IT project success and risk management practices influencing IT project success. Risk management practices include risk identification, risk analysis, risk response planning, and risk monitoring and control. The IT project success is measured by proces performance and product performance. Data are collected from 200 project managers, IT managers, and IT analysts in IT firms through questionnaires and analysed using Independent Sample t-test, One-way ANOVA, and Multiple Linear Regression at the statistical significance level of 0.05. The results show that the differences in organisational types affect IT project success in all aspects, while the differences on organisational sizes affect IT project success in the aspect of product performance and total aspects. Risk identification and risk response planning influence the process performance and the total aspects of IT project success. Risk identification has the highest positive influence on product performance, followed closely by risk response, while risk analysis negatively influences product performance.

In business practice, projects are accompanied by a wide range of risks. It is necessary to continuously identify and assess the risks of projects. The aim of the paper is to deal with the issue of Risk Management of projects in various enterprises in the Czech Republic. The paper is divided into three main parts. The first part – Introduction is focused on defining the process of Project Management, Role of Project Manager, explains the process of Risk Management of projects and describes the methods, which will be applied subsequently. The second practical part includes analysis of project risks. In the third part, after identifying the most important risks in selected projects, there is a proposal to set up measures for their reduction or complete elimination. The research was carried out in enterprises located on the territory of the Czech Republic. Data collection took place between November 2014 and January 2015 using a questionnaire survey. The article concludes with proposed recommendations in Risk Management area according to the practical experience of project management methods application respecting the specifics of the Czech Republic.
W praktyce gospodarczej projektom towarzyszy szeroka gama ryzyk. Konieczna jest ciągła identyfikacja i ocena ryzyka związanego z projektami. Celem artykułu jest zajęcie się kwestią zarządzania ryzykiem projektów w różnych przedsiębiorstwach w Republice Czeskiej. Niniejszy artykuł podzielony jest na trzy główne części. Część pierwsza - Wprowadzenie koncentruje się na zdefiniowaniu procesu zarządzania projektami, roli kierownika projektu, wyjaśnia proces zarządzania ryzykiem projektów i opisuje metody, które będą stosowane w kolejnych częściach. Część druga, praktyczna, obejmuje analizę ryzyka związanego z projektem. W trzeciej części, po zidentyfikowaniu najważniejszych zagrożeń w wybranych projektach, zaproponowano ustalenie środków dla ich zmniejszenia lub całkowitego wyeliminowania. Badania zostały przeprowadzone w przedsiębiorstwach znajdujących się na terytorium Republiki Czeskiej. Zbieranie danych miało miejsce w okresie od listopada 2014 do stycznia 2015 roku za pomocą badania ankietowego. Artykuł zakończono proponowanymi zaleceniami w dziedzinie zarządzania ryzykiem zgodnie z praktycznym zastosowaniem metod zarządzania projektami z uzwględnieniem specyfiki Republiki Czeskiej.

Project finance jest na gruncie polskim nową metodą finansowania projektów inwestycyjnych, która umożliwia pozyskanie długoterminowego finansowania dla projektów inwestycyjnych. Metoda ta wykorzystuje mechanizmy inżynierii finansowej, które pozwalają na spłacenie zaciągniętych zobowiązań wyłącznie w oparciu o strumienie przepływów pieniężnych generowanych przez projekt. Zapewnienie finansowania projektu obejmującego budowę oraz eksploatację i utrzymanie powstałego majątku wymaga szczegółowej analizy przepływów pieniężnych projektu, w kontekście oceny ryzyka projektu na wszystkich jego etapach implementacji oraz alokacji ryzyka pomiędzy poszczególnych uczestników przedsięwzięcia inwestycyjnego.
Project Finance is a new method of funding development projects in Poland, making it possible to obtain long-term financing for such projects. The method uses financial engineering mechanisms which make possible the repayment of debts solely out of the cash flows generated by the project. The provision of financing for a project covering the construction, use and maintenance of the resulting assets requires detailed analysis of the cash flows of the project, in the context of assessment of the project's risk at all of its stages of implementation, and the allocation of risk between the parties involved in the undertaking.

The aim of the article is to present elaborated risk management model in project management of e-learning courses development and implementation. Showed model of risk management is a part of a complex, integrated model for e-learning projects' processes management. The starting point of the article is an analysis of the current state of scientific literature in the field of project management for e-learning courses with a thesis that there are no suitable models adapted to the specifics of e-learning. For the thesis confirmation a case studies of four e-learning institutions with significant experience in e-learning field is being shown. Developed risk management model is presented in the third part of the article. It starts from showing elaborated general processes map, with integrated risk management. Finally detailed risk management models for distinguished processes are being presented. The article is based on case studies of European institutions with significant e-learning projects realization experience, like: Oncampus, Lübeck University of Applied Science from Germany; Distance Education Centre, Kaunas University of Technology from Lithuania; Center of Distance Education Development, Higher Banking School and Educational Portal of University of Gdansk, University of Gdansk. It also includes author's six years’ experience gained by participation in e-learning projects, like international Baltic Sea Virtual Campus and national POKL as courses’ author, instructional designer and it coordinator.

Opis:
Improving the educational process through evaluation requires adopting new concepts and approaches. In addition to the traditional methodologies applied in this field, such as observation or surveys, business methods are increasingly being implemented, including the Deming cycle or selected elements of project management methodologies. Their application allows for a holistic and unbiased view of the quality of teaching and learning. This article aims to illustrate and evaluate the usefulness of project management methodologies in identifying Critical Success Factors (CSFs) and risks in creating and evaluating academic courses. The subject of the research was the course “Creativity and Decision-making”, and the main method of the research, which was conducted in four cycles from 2020 to 2023, was the Deming cycle (PDCA). Data collection was based on data triangulation, including unstructured interviews with students and experts, as well as participant observation. Content analysis with a categorisation key was used to analyse the data, with the results presenting lists of extracted critical success and risk factors determining the quality of the course. The implemented procedure represents an innovative approach to the evaluation of academic courses, at the core of which is the creation and updating of two substantively opposing lists: the determinants of learning successes and failures constituting of a map of strategic control points, and a basis for the improvement of the educational process.

The presented paper is an attempt to evaluate the application of different buffer sizing methods (within the critical chain approach) to a real-life project, in order to show that it is important to choose consciously one of the existing methods. The implementation of the different approaches to the buffer sizing procedure resulted in eight unique schedules. Once all the methods were implemented, the authors of this paper stumbled upon 2 inconveniences (slack vs. buffer, splitting up buffers). Funding solution for these handicaps caused obtaining eight more schedules. In order to evaluate all the determined solutions, the authors decided to establish a simulation study. A random dataset was generated of 2000 observations using the mean and variance calculated for the probability distribution determined by three possible durations (optimistic, expected and pessimistic) given by the project team members. To validate the performance of different methods, two penalty systems were designed. The test results indicate which specific buffer sizing technique performs best in the presented case, taking into account the attitude of the decision maker. The simulation study is the proposal of a method to be applied in each case of the critical chain method application, because it makes the use of the critical chain method more effective.

The article describes the life cycle of a project and a construction investment process. Using the knowledge areas of project management methodologies, the authors focus on the elements of the risk management process. One of the main points of analyses was the selected methods of identifying risk factors. The focus was on the versatility, disadvantages, advantages and results of these methods for their use during a construction project.

This comparative study examines the moderating role of risk management in project planning and project success in the construction business of the UK and Pakistan. The data was gathered from 152 project managers (76 from both economies each) using a survey questionnaire. The purposive sampling technique was used to ensure fair representation of sample size and the RAND formula was used to select the project managers. For quantitative analysis, partial least square structural equation modelling technique was utilised. The results confirmed that project planning had a statistically significant impact on project success. Furthermore, risk management significantly moderated the relationship between project planning and project success in the construction businesses despite being in two different economies. The paper contributes to the enhancement of the body of knowledge intended for global companies and academicians aiming to implement risk management frameworks to enhance project success and ensure the effectiveness of project planning in a competitive business environment. It offers a new perspective to investigate the relationship between project planning and project success through moderating the effect of risk management, which is a new theoretical dimension for construction business and the field of project management. It is proposed to the governments and construction businesses operating in the UK and Pakistan to validate the empirical research framework in the cross-cultural context while assessing risk and uncertainty. It helps the construction business in the evaluation of risk while planning and successfully implementing project strategies.

An investment project as an undertaking for the future, more or less foreseeable, is a priori encumbered with the possibility of occurrence of disturbances. In recent years there have appeared significant changes in the scope of execution of construction projects, connected with the investment execution time, manner of financing, investors, and the environment in which the given project is executed. That fact determines the need, or even the necessity, to conduct the research into the issues of risk assessment and its utilitarian aspects. That problem applies also to construction projects, including water supply and sewage projects. An example of the project with all kinds of threats characteristic of such types of investments is the project entitled “Complex protection of the underground waters in the Kielce agglomeration.” The risk factors result from the complexity and specificity of that type of projects. The presented article is an introduction to the discussion on the issues of assessing the risk of execution of water supply and sewage projects. The intention of the authors was to present the specificity of that type of projects and the general identification of the risk factors accompanying them.

Agile methods for project management are often treated as methods for mitigating risk. However, there is disagreement as to whether explicit methods of risk management should be used in projects which are executed according to Agile methodology or is the implicit risk management built into Agile methodologies sufficient. To contribute to the discussion, an attempt has been made to identify risks that are either caused by the introduction of an Agile methodology to a project or become more significant when such methodology is in use. If such risks exist, this would be evidence that explicit risk management is required, even in the case of Agile methodologies. The results of this research may be useful for any organization that is in the process of selecting a methodology for project management and is considering Agile methodologies.

Zarządzanie ryzykiem w projekcie stanowi jeden z ważniejszych obszarów zapewnienia skutecznego osiągania jego celów. Zwykle stosuje się je w odniesieniu do „twardych aspektów” projektu, takich jak czas, koszty i jakość. Zarządzanie ryzykiem projektu w odniesieniu do sfery ludzkiej – kierownika projektu, zespołu projektowego czy interesariuszy – jest mocno zaniedbane. A to przecież ludzie odpowiadają za sukces projektu przeciętnie w 80%. Niniejsza praca stanowi próbę częściowego wypełnienia tej luki. Przedstawiono w niej trzy zjawiska: oporu na zmianę, konfliktu i kryzysu w projekcie, jako elementów połączonych określonymi związkami przyczynowo-skutkowymi. Wystąpienie każdego z nich stanowi poważne zagrożenie dla sukcesu projektu, będąc tym samym określonym ryzykiem. Opór jako niechęć do wykonywania zadań w projekcie skutkuje na ogół przekraczaniem terminów lub spadkiem jakości wykonywanych prac. Konflikt powoduje podobne skutki – członkowie zespołu projektowego tracą czas na niepotrzebne i często jałowe spory. Wreszcie kryzys – jako sytuacja nadzwyczajna – powoduje konieczność działań pod presją czasu i przełożonych, co sprzyja popełnianiu błędów. W pracy przedstawiono główne czynniki tych trzech ryzyk, a także sposoby radzenia sobie z nimi. W zakończeniu podjęto próbę kompleksowego zarządzania całą tą triadą.
Risk management in a project is one of most important factors of its successful achievement of goals. Usually it is applied to the “hard aspects” of a project, such as time, cost and quality. Risk management in a project concerning human aspects is neglected, in spite of the fact that human beings are responsible for 80% of project success. This work is an attempt to partially fill this gap. Three phenomena are resistance to changes, conflicts and crisis in a project, connected with each other by certain cause and effect relations. The manifestation of each of them means a serious problem for project success, being a risk at the same time. Resistance as aversion to execute project tasks results in missing deadlines and a drop in quality. Conflict generates similar results: team members waste their time on redundant discussions. Finally, crisis as an exceptional situation creates a necessity to work under the pressure of time and supervisors, thus facilitating making mistakes. In this article the main factors of these three risks are presented, as well as the ways of dealing with them. Finally, an attempt has been made to manage this triad.

Opis:
The construction phase of oil and gas projects (OGPs) is a risky process and project managers face numerous challenges during this particular period. A proper risk analysis and management during the construction phase of the OGPs not only will affect the timely and successful operation of the project as a whole, it can also affect occurrence of risks in subsequent phases and overall economic viability of the project. As a result, via using extensive literature review, this study tries to answer the question of what are main risks involved in construction phase of OGPs and which methods are used for identifying them? The outcome of this research would likely be a valuable source for construction professionals to improve project performance while managing existing risks. It is also useful to avoid common problems that befall many project managers and will assist them to have a better understanding of risk management as part of a project plan.

W artykule przedstawiono ogólną koncepcję zarządzania ryzykiem w nowoczesnej organizacji. Szczególną wagę przywiązuje się do metod analizy i ocen ryzyka w procesie zarządzania projektami systemów (złożonych obiektów technicznych) w ramach działalności innowacyjnej organizacji (przedsiębiorstwa, organizacji badawczo-rozwojowej).
A general concept of risks management within a modern organisational structure is presented in the paper. The particular attention is paid for risk evaluation and analysis methods used for management of systems projects (complex technical systems) carried out under the innovation activity of an organisation like company or research-development institution.
