    Introduction/background: The intent of the paper was to verify the hypothesis: H0 – Pilot study is an integral part of any research process and directs the research process. H1 – Pilot study is not an integral part of any research process and does not direct the research process. Aim of the paper: The aim of the paper is to verify whether a pilot study is an integral part of any research process and whether it directs research processes. Materials and methods: In order to verify the hypothesis, a quantitative survey (questionnaire) was conducted, which was addressed to a group of management science theoreticians (401 representatives). Results and conclusions: The results obtained revealed that: 86% of the surveyed scientists, specialising in management science, believe that pilot studies direct the research process, 88% of all scientists specialising in management science believe that pilot studies have an impact on the course of the research process, 70% of all management scientists believe that pilot studies are an integral part of any research process. Thus, hypothesis H1 was rejected. Of key importance, from the point of view of the development of this science, are the needs to develop principles for the application of the methods that make up the pragmatic methodology, and to disseminate methodological paradigms identified in particular in the approach of the contemporary methodology of management sciences.

    W artykule o charakterze przeglądowym zaprezentowano potencjał mikrotomografii komputerowej, która może zostać zastosowana do badań i analiz strukturalnych materiałów drogowych takich jak mieszanki mineralno-asfaltowe. Praca zawiera opis metodologii badania z użyciem mikrotomografu komputerowego przeznaczonego do dokładnych badań materiałowych. Zaprezentowano ocenę strukturalną materiału, analizę porowatości oraz wykorzystanie obrazowania tomograficznego do oceny mechanistyczno-wytrzymałościowego materiału. Na przykładzie nowatorskiej analizy agresji chemicznej wywołanej agresją chlorkową przedstawiono dodatkowe możliwości techniczne urządzenia. Artykuł kończy podsumowanie opisanych zastosowań tej metody badawczej w stosunku do mieszanek mineralno-asfaltowych. Wskazano na zalety i możliwości wprowadzenia mikrotomografii do powszechnego użycia w drogowej inżynierii lądowej.
    The article shows the potential of computer microtomography that can be used for research and structural analysis of road materials such as asphalt mixtures. The work contains a description of the research methodology using a computer microtomograph on the example of asphalt concrete. The paper discusses the structural assessment of the material, porosity analysis, the use of tomographic imaging to assess the mechanics and strength of the material, and presents a novelty in the form of an analysis of chemical aggression caused by chloride aggression. The article ends with a summary of the applications of this research methodology in relation to asphalt mixtures and indicates the advantages and possibilities of introducing microtomography for widespread use in road engineering.

    The article discusses current methodological trends in social research on physical education (PE), physical activity (PA) and sport in research presented on AIESEP scientific meetings. Special attention was paid to the dissemination of qualitative research approach applied independently or parallel to the qualitative measurements. Such a mixed methodological compositions allow to obtain more comprehensive and in-depth view of many scientific issues of PE, PA and sport. The article presents up-to-date research examples and some practical recommendations for further investigations.

    In the research within the pedagogy of labour, there is the need to broaden the choice of research methods. Both quantitative and qualitative methods may be in question. It can be assumed that such methods will prove useful as far as the issues of the pedagogy of labour are concerned. The pedagogy of labour, due to its specific scope and issues, is suited for using qualitative research methods to a large extent. The article presents examples of using this kind of methods.

    Badania dzieciństwa, w tym badania z udziałem dzieci, są rozwijającym się obszarem aktywności naukowej, podejmowanej w ramach interdyscyplinarnych nowych studiów nad dzieciństwem (new childhood studies). Obecnie opierają się na koncepcji dziecka jako aktywnego aktora społecznego oraz na prawach dziecka w rozumieniu Konwencji o prawach dziecka ONZ z 1989 roku. Prowadzenie badań skoncentrowanych na dzieciach i badań z udziałem dzieci, a także badań, w których dzieci przyjmują rolę badaczy (są współautorami badań) wymaga pogłębionej refleksji nad etyką i metodologią. Dzieci, jako przedstawiciele grupy mniejszościowej, podlegającej dyskryminacji i marginalizacji, zaliczane są do grupy „wrażliwych” (sensitive) i „nieuprzywilejowanych” (vulnerable) uczestników badań. Artykuł opiera się na analizie literatury przedmiotu i wywiadach eksperckich z badaczami/badaczkami dzieciństwa. W tekście prezentuję ważne etyczne i metodologiczne kwestie badań z udziałem dzieci wraz z przykładami rozwiązań stosowanych w tych obszarach w ramach nowych studiów dzieciństwa.
    Research on childhood, including research with the participation of children, is a developing area of scientific activity undertaken within the framework of interdisciplinary ‘new childhood studies’. It is currently based on the concept of a child as an active social actor and on the principles of the 1989 UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Conducting research focused on children, research with children, as well as research where children assume the role of researchers (co-authors of the research project) requires a deeper reflection on ethics and methodology. As a minority group subjected to discrimination and marginalization in societies and cultures, children are considered to be “sensitive” or “vulnerable” research participants. The article is based on the analysis of the literature on new childhood studies as well as on qualitative interviews with experts (researchers experienced in childhood research). In the paper, I present important ethical and methodological issues and dilemmas of research with children, along with examples of solutions adopted in this regard within new childhood studies.
