    The presence of religion in the modern world is confirmed by statistics, both global data on religious identifications. Religion is a permanent feature of our world and will undoubtedly remain so in the future. However, it is not without significance that the reality of religion is described and interpreted by representatives of the WEIRD elite, who overwhelmingly do not belong to the reality being described. In other words, we must recognize the fact that religion is a subject of research for people who, at best, are not interested in it. This may mean that secularization is largely a postulate or goal (often politically implemented plan) and not a conclusion resulting from an impartial observation. Therefore, it is difficult to find scholars willing to critically judge secularization, apart from the circles clearly identifying as a denomination. I would like to highlight two authors who stand out from this background: Leszek Kołakowski and Roger Scruton. I believe that Kołakowski and Scruton can point out the benefits of the presence of religion in the modern world, and at the same time, they see what the threats of secularization are. However, are such views able to successfully compete with the mainstream in the humanities and social sciences? I base my doubts about this, inter alia, on statistical data and the latest publications.

    The article presents an overview and analysis of a research study of the repertoire of Polish religious songs after 1945. The article aims to present how the religious values of sacrum and sanctum are realized in them through the medium of linguistic and musical means of expression. The author also examines the categories of religious poetry as proposed by Maria Jasińska-Wojtkowska, and considers religious songs as multi-faceted acts of auto- and social communication. A phenomenological perspective adopted by the songs encourages holiness and acts of goodness through the pursuit of God – the supreme value. The article is an original text. Its goal is to demonstrate how the religious values of sacrum and sanctum are realized through the medium of linguistic and musical means of expression in Polish religious songs created after 1945. The author considers religious songs as multi-faceted acts of auto- and social communication. The methods employed by the author are analysis of song lyrics, as well as analysis of selected aspects of the musical component of the songs. The main results are as follows: the analyses reveal that the lyrics of the religious songs are imbued with the values of sacrum and sanctum, expressed through the choice of topics, the words and phrases used, and a type of poetics specific for sacrum. As a consequence, the songs provide vessels for religious values. Moreover, the structures of the songs are such that they include, as their inherent components, the author and the addressee of the values of sacrum and sanctum. The results of the analyses may be employed further as a basis for continued research, in particular in the following areas: reception of religious songs; practical applications of the reception of religious songs, both in pedagogical work and in the context of child education and socialization, especially in terms of religious upbringing and education. The songs encourage holiness and acts of goodness through the pursuit of God, the supreme value. The article also explores the social impact religious songs have on an individual’s attitude to the world and interaction with the religious community. The article’s original contribution consists mainly in the research perspective it applies to the analyses of the research material, i.e. the author’s hermeneutic and phenomenological approach. Moreover, the article’s strong point lies in its comprehensive treatment of songs as both literary and musical works.

    Wybitne budowle i zespoły sakralne, z istoty swojej powstawały dzięki odpowiednio wielkim ideom, zarówno wyrażanym przez inwestorów i twórców, a często również przy istotnym współudziale oraz wkładzie ze strony społeczności: lokalnych, klasztornych i innych. Jednakże obok tych motorycznych, wysokich motywacji, wpływ na kształtowanie architektoniczne i urbanistyczne dzieł religijnych, miały potężne uwarunkowania polityczne, społeczne, kulturowe, a zwłaszcza religijne i między religijne. Te ostatnie były i pozostają rozpięte pomiędzy: nienawiścią, obojętnością, tolerancją, zrozumieniem, szacunkiem i solidarnością.
    Outstanding structures and religious complexes have, by their nature, been created thanks to suitably great ideas, expressed both by investors and creators, and often frequently also with a substantial contribution made by local, monastic and other communities. However, in addition to those motoric, high motivations, those were powerful political, social, cultural, and especially religious and intra-religious determinants that exerted an influence on the architectural and urbanistic shaping of religious works. Those religious and intra-religious determinants have been and continue to be spanned between hatred, indifference, tolerance, respect, and solidarity.

    The article analyzes how the main representative of the Romanian New Wave – Cristi Puiu – uses the visual space of an apartment for staging and presenting the visible and hidden spheres of reality. His film Sieranevada, focusing on a family meeting on the occasion of religious ceremonies commemorating recently deceased senior family member, shows the possibilities of using the language of realism to appeal to the spirituality present in everyday life and to unveil Transcendence.

    In the age of post-modernity the religious and ethical awareness of societies are undergoing devaluation. We are witnessing walking away from religiosity and the denial of its values. Religiosity is replaced with “metaphysical” sacralised consumerism and the worship of the body, which are seen as a shorter route to heaven. As the response to the fall of traditional values, a new form of spirituality is emerging. It is based on distance, rejection and going beyond empty and compulsive consumerism. Thanks to that an individual is able to regain self-determination and one’s own humanity.
    W dobie ponowoczesności świadomość religijna i etyczna społeczeństw ulega dewaluacji. Jesteśmy świadkami odchodzenia od religijności i negowania jej wartości. Religijność zastępowana jest „metafizycznym”, sakralizowanym konsumpcjonizmem i kultem ciała, które postrzegane są jako krótsza droga do nieba. W odpowiedzi na upadek tradycyjnych wartości pojawia się nowa forma duchowości. Opiera się ona na dystansie, odrzuceniu i wyjściu poza pusty i kompulsywny konsumpcjonizm. Dzięki temu jednostka jest w stanie odzyskać samostanowienie i własne człowieczeństwo.

    Głównym celem artykułu jest prezentacja sakralnego charakteru natury, analizowanej przez Romano Guardiniego (1885–1968) w opracowaniach filozoficznych poświęconych interpretacji twórczości Friedricha Hölderlina (1770–1843). Guardini prowadził swoje badania nad twórczością Hölderlina na gruncie filozofii religii. Twierdził, że w wierszach i poematach tego wybitnego myśliciela i poety szczególną rolę odgrywa natura rozumiana jako przestrzeń, w której zamieszkuje sacrum. W twórczości literackiej Hölderlina jest obecna nowa forma religijności postchrześcijańskiej, która polega na reinterpretacji symboli chrześcijańskich i metamorfozie fenomenu religijnego z rzeczywistości obiektywnej w różnorodne formy zindywidualizowane.
    The principal objective of this article is to introduce the sacred realm of nature, discussed by Romano Guardini (1885–1968) in the philosophical works he devoted to the interpretation of the writings of Friedrich Hölderlin (1770–1843). Guardini conducted his research on Hölderlin’s output in the philosophy of religion. With respect to Hölderlin’s poems, Guardini noted the special role played in them by nature understood as the space inhabited by the sacrum. In fact, Hölderlin’s literary works are pervaded with a new form of Post-Christian religiosity, which consists in the practice of re-interpreting Christian symbols and translating the religious phenomenon from one objective reality to various, individualized forms.

    The article was devoted to the methodology of research on the relationship between literature-religion. Its aim is a critical reflection on the use of the category of the sacred in the research. In Poland, in 70. of the last century, sacred has become the vital category for reflections on the religious aspects of literature (eliminating such terms as ‘catholic literature’ and ‘religious literature’). The historiographical method is used in the article. The author presents the steps of the presence of the category sacred in the humanities, especially in the Polish literature studies. The main results of the analysis: sacrological research had prepared us to meet study of literature and cultural studies. Many factors point to the fact that sacral research was one of the first attempts to build a bond between literary and cultural studies. The term sacrum did not have classification or typological aim (such function was sometimes assigned to ‘religious literature’ term). Its wide range allowed activities that led to identification of the religious profile of the literary work. Its primary context was not any ideology or religious doctrine, but cultural anthropology, so it demanded culture studies competence more than being involved in world outlook. The wide range of the notion – completely natural and desirable in the anthropology of culture – did not have to be something obvious in the research of separate literary works, at times evoking the image of the world strictly connected with particular religion, or even particular worship. The answer to this was Stefan Sawicki’s offer to replace the sacrum category when analysing such works with other terms. Organizational measures undertaken by the founder of Lublin school of sacral research were soon verified by the reality of academic discussion – subject, as each discussion, to the rules of terminology fashion. Sacrum became fashionable term for some time – used and overused, perhaps. It became the key-word to open all possible references to religious sphere in literary works. It was applied not only where the layer of religious meaning remained generalized in the text, but also in those which were distinctly involved in the symbolic world of a specific religion. There were of course attempts to introduce new notion where the context demanded it. Taken in the article analyzes the concept of the sacred in literary studies have been limited mainly to the area of Polish literary criticism. The text encourages further research. It has practical significance. It explains the methods, can serve students and other readers (such as teachers or students) to acquire the skills to interpret literary texts. The author is not only critically discusses the use of the sacred in the research literature, but also proposes a new research tools in the form of the category of "spirituality" .

    Prezentowany tekst jest rodzajem artykułu oryginalnego. Celem jest ukazanie wartości sacrum i sanctum kreowanych w polskich pieśniach religijnych powstałych po 1945 roku. Autorka w trakcie badań posłużyła się przede wszystkim analizą tekstu słownego pieśni, ale również wzięła pod uwagę elementy dzieła muzycznego. Główne wyniki analiz ujawniły wpisane w teksty repertuaru pieśniowego wartości sacrum i sanctum, które przejawiają się poprzez tematykę, używane zwroty, specyficznej poetyce sacrum i wynikającym z niej sakralnym charakterze pieśni będących nośnikiem wartości religijnych oraz w strukturze pieśni, w którą wpisani są nadawca i odbiorca wartości sacrum i sanctum. Wyniki analiz mogą stanowić podstawę do dalszych badań, szczególnie w zakresie recepcji pieśni oraz jej zastosowania praktycznego zarówno w pracy pedagogicznej, jak i wychowawczej, szczególnie w zakresie pedagogiki religijnej Oryginalność artykułu stanowi specyficzna perspektywa badawcza przyjęta w trakcie analiz materiału badawczego, którą jest hermeneutycznofenomenologiczne nastawienie badawcze autorki, a także całościowa analiza dzieła literacko-muzycznego jaką jest pieśń.
