Opis:
The presented paper concerns with the technical object reliability evaluation based on the parametric and momentary failures during the process of object operating. The real world data observation shows that in the case of high quality technical objects the catastrophic failure events are too rare to the credible evaluation of the object’s reliability. For that reason, the parametric and momentary failures are in the centre of attention in this paper. The set of analysed failures was obtained with the classifiers of the field data provided by the monitoring system (the failure alarms) and the diagnostic system (the functional and technical condition parameters deviation). The changes of the functioning condition potential are used to determine the symptoms of momentary failures and the changes in the potential of the technical condition to determine the symptoms of parametric failures (non-total). The assumed reliability characteristics model has the form R(t) = f(_, Rb(t), Rc(t)), (where: Rb(t) and Rc(t) – the estimators of reliability for parametric and momentary failures, symbol ‘_’ denotes catastrophic failures not covered). For the identification of R (t) as an analytical function, the estimators are computed with the field data. The Weibull distribution function due to its flexibility is often used. Such is the case in this paper. Two parameters a and b known as the scale and the shape parameters are estimated with the computerized procedure realizing least-square method. The presented examples show good fit quality even for small set of data.

The paper is concerned with the determination of the Mean Time To Failure (MTTF) in configurations where the failure rate is periodical. After solving two configurations exactly, we show that when the period of the failure rate oscillations is small with respect to the average failure rate, the MTTF is essentially given by the inverse of the average failure rate, give or take corrections that can be expressed analytically. This could be helpful in the description of systems the environment of which is subject to changes.

The problem considered in this paper is the minimization of the lifetime variance of a complex system subject to its expected life and economic constraints. The example of a bridge network, in which all elements have constant failure rates, illustrates the problem. A numerical algorithm for solving this optimization problem by using exact formulae for system lifetime moments is included. Using this algorithm, we can obtain results better than the solutions known from earlier papers.

Mechanical objects are operated in real world where degradation of material components and variability of processes managed by a man are the main factors influencing its efficiency. Machine degradation is a longlasting process concerning its material structure, components and connections. Loss of machine operations ability is due to failures caused by wear and tear, fatigue, corrosion, overloading, material ageing and many other destructive processes. It is observed close relation between failure modes and reliability models so that knowledge about failures may help analysts creating reliability models and determine the best operational decisions. In the paper it is discussed relation between physical phenomenon and theoretical models as a common platform of decision processes.

Opis:
The core idea of reliability design is to mitigate the product’s failure modes. However, for the cross-links among potential failure modes of a complex product, it is very difficult to establish the mapping relationship between failure modes mitigation and quantitative values of reliability, and the decision of failure modes mitigation have to be performed by virtue of experience, which always increase design period. In order to solve these problems, a novel logic-based approach for failure modes mitigation control and quantitative system reliability analyses is provided. Firstly, a hybrid of active and passive control process of reliability design is proposed. Secondly, a novel concept of failure modes correlation set (FMCS) and a determination approach based on deductive theory are presented. According to the changes in failure modes probabilities of occurrence, the reliability formulas of the components and assemblies are provided to depict the effects of failure mode mitigation on reliability of components and assemblies. And then the FMCS mitigation sequence is decided to determine reliability design activities. Thirdly, a closed control process of FMCS mitigation is provided integrated with logic decision method. By exposing the design of a helicopter fuel system, the present study demonstrates that all approaches are feasible, and the relationship between reliability parameters and qualitative design exists. Hence the failure modes mitigation could be controlled for the achievement of quantitative reliability requirements.
Podstawowym problemem w procesie projektowania niezawodności jest ograniczenie przyczyn uszkodzeń produktu. Jednakże, w przypadku sieci połączeń pomiędzy możliwymi przyczynami uszkodzeń złożonego produktu, trudno jest ustalić mapę zależności pomiędzy ograniczaniem przyczyn uszkodzeń i ilościowymi wartościami niezawodności, a decyzje względem ograniczania przyczyn uszkodzeń muszą bazować na własnym doświadczeniu, co znacznie wydłuża okres projektowania. W celu rozwiązania powyższych problemów, zaproponowano oryginalną, opartą na logice, metodę kontroli ograniczania przyczyn uszkodzeń i ilościowej analizy niezawodności systemu. Na wstępie, zaproponowano mieszany proces aktywnej i pasywnej kontroli niezawodności projektu. Następnie, zaprezentowano oryginalną koncepcję zbioru korelacji przyczyn uszkodzeń (FMCS) i metodę oznaczania opartą o teorię dedukcji.

Opis:
A high number of examples in today’s global industry prove that it is difficult to ensure a certain level of quality. One possible reason is the increasing complexity of modern mechatronic product systems. Interface problems due to several involved science disciplines and the lack of understanding subsystems, which are delivered by different suppliers, make it difficult to identify critical components and specifications of elements. Furthermore, it is even harder to estimate the effects of elements because of their unknown dependencies and relations. Therefore it becomes more and more improbable to develop a safe, sustainable and high quality product right from the beginning. In order to understand failures in complex system structures today’s engineering industries need a generic approach that increases the understanding of systems, identifies critical components and considers the different levels of a system. It shall examine failures that cause system errors but also failures that limit system functions. Thus, it is necessary to model and simulate the causally failure chains and analyse over several system levels and elements with their dependencies. This leads to a better understanding of the whole picture of cause and effect. This research paper points out which requirements this new model-based approach has to fulfill and how it is possible to link quality and reliability methods to achieve an overall understanding and analysis of a complex system to assure high quality and sustainability.

Networks are the widest spreading system which Mankind has ever developed, today. New needs, services, and use are created each day where network systems represent the most critical aspect. Additionally, the interconnection between networks of different types is growing as never. This acceleration of interconnection of all sorts brings to the front scene the issue of performance measure in networks design and operation. For that purpose, engineers are orienting their major efforts towards the development of methods, models and codes to assess and measure networks performance in terms of probability of being connected. From this stand point of view, the engineers’ attention is mainly focused on defining the network “Connectivity” and measuring it, in different manner, using probabilities. Subsequently, we are observing an accelerating course towards quantitative probabilistic models to describe and assess networks’ Connectivity, since the sixties. Modelling realistic networks is still far from being satisfactorily achieved using quantitative probabilistic models. On the other hand, little room has been lift to exploring the potential of graphical and topological models to develop qualitative and semi- quantitative models in order to assess networks performance. But, it sounds very promoting at that stage of maturation. According to this model, the term “performance” may be extended, beyond the “connectivity probabilistic concept”, to “robustness” and to a “deepest insight” of the “connectivity concept” itself. The impact is immediate on the way the “reliability concept” would be extended to cover network systems.

The reliability study is the most important part of the engineering design process, as it is the basis of analysis and assessment of future product performance in exploitation. Since performance cannot be predicted with absolute certainty, the application of reliability theory includes probability theory and unreliability modeling. The proposed approach has been applied to assess the reliability of gear planetary power transmissions. The assessment of system reliability was determined on the basis of the block diagram method, as a function of the reliability of individual components, calculated by statistical analysis. Using the Weibull model, the reliability of the planetary gear was defined on the basis of the probability of failure of the gear teeth and the results were interpreted to assess the reliability of the component and the entire planetary train. For a more precise assessment of reliability and to avoid modeling every failure and mode of occurrence, a competitive risk model was developed. The reliability assessment study was conducted with a “bottom-up” approach. Reliability has been assessed, for instantaneous, estimated and assigned failures rate of planetary train and component.
