    The article discusses the research proposal presented in Światowa historia literatury polskiej. Interpretacje [World History of Polish Literature. Interpretations], edited by Magdalena Popiel, Tomasz Bilczewski and Stanley Bill. Mikołajczak contrasts the research concept of world literature with the dominant approaches to the world literature in the area of contemporary literary studies and the traditional model of the history of literature. She reflects on the situation of Polish literature in the world, taking into account the ways in which Polish works circulate in other cultural circles, the possibilities and limitations of translation as well as shifts within the canon. She also indicates the opportunities that open up for Polish literature in the global context.

    Julije Benešć’s correspondence with Polish scholars, people of culture, writers, and numerous acquaintances and friends began in his school years and lasted until his death. A large collection of letters and postcards sent to him by Poles has been collected in the HAZU library in Zagreb, but unfortunately it has not yet been put in order, and some items have been lost. The materials in the collection were only collected in the form of a list prepared by Ivan Meden in 1978. This text presents letters from Maria Kuncewiczowa, which provide information about the relations of Polish writers with the Croatian popularizer of their works and about the writer’s perception of the Polish literary scene in the years 1920s.

    Opis:
    The article presents literary friendship between the poet and Karl Dedecius – the first and most important translator of his poetry into German. The article is an introduction into their voluminous correspondence. Letters that present Dedecius’ efforts aimed at anchoring Her-bert’s creativity into German language and rising in it related literature, reveal for us the figure of the poet and his half-emigrant condition. The article discusses Herbert’s poem Col-antonio – S. Gierolamo e il Leone, poem dedicated to his German translator. Saint Jerome presented in the poem is a patron and a symbol of perfection for translators. He is distin-guished not only through his titanic work, but above all through his attitude based on open-ness and courage.

    U članku se skicira slika hrvatske književnosti u ciljnoj, poljskoj kulturi, kao i vice versa, koje se formiraju tijekom 25 -godišnjeg razdoblja. Temelji se ona uglavnom na bibliografijama i komentarima objavljenima u časopisu „Przekłady Literatur Słowiańskich”, koji već desetak godina sustavno i detaljno bilježi i opisuje prijevode slavenskih književnosti. Analiza monografskih izdanja, kad je hrvatska književnost u pitanju, pokazuje da izbor poljskih prevoditelja pada na egzilnu literaturu, koja dobrim dijelom nije bila smatrana kanonom, te djela autora s graničnih područja jezika i kultura bivše Jugoslavije, i tematski se veže uz jugonostalgiju, ratne traume i potragu za identitetom. Hrvatska književnost — i kultura — u Poljskoj često stoga nose ponajprije odrednicu „balkanskog” i „postjugoslavenskog”. S druge strane, poljska književnost u hrvatskim prijevodima uglavnom se predstavlja reprezentativnim autorima, čiji se opus smatra kanonskim i u izvornoj kulturi. Ogledanje jedne kulture u drugoj donosi širu sliku predstavljanja Drugoga i otvara problem odnosa kulturne auto - i heteropredodžbe.
    In this article, we have tried to draw an image of Croatian literature in Polish culture, as well as vice versa, in the last 25 years, based on bibliographies and articles on translations in PLS. It has been concluded that, due to translators’ choices of Croatian exile literature, works perceived in the source culture as non -canon, themes related to war, Yugonostalgia and authors whose work belong to the “borderline” of a few nations, Croatian literature in Poland exists as “Balkan” literature. On the other hand, choices of Polish literature in Croatia mainly concerns classic Polish authors. Both cases draw a wider picture of national imagery — a hetero -image — in the target culture.

    Artykuł podejmuje problem recepcji dawnego piśmiennictwa kręgu Slavia Orthodoxa w Polsce, który jest zagadnieniem złożonym, wieloaspektowym, ściśle związanym ze specyfiką obu przestrzeni kulturowych, z pozoru różnych, lecz jak się okazuje, nie tak odległych czy odmiennych w swych tradycjach. Kwestia przekładu dawnego piśmiennictwa prawosławnych Słowian jest rozważana na przykładzie tekstów staroserbskich, a biorąc pod uwagę kryterium ich obecności i nieobecności w polskim obiegu czytelniczym, omawiane są przede wszystkim prezentacje o charakterze antologicznym.
    This work deals with the problem of the reception of the former literature of the Slavia Orthodoxa circle in Poland, which is an issue folded, multifaceted, closely connected with the specificity of the two cultural spaces, seemingly different, but as it turns out, not so distant or different in their traditions. The issue of the translation of literature of Orthodox Slavs is discussed on the example of the Old-Serbian texts, given the criterion of presence and absence of these texts in Polish circulation readership.
    В статье затрагивается проблема рецепции давней письменности ареала Slavia Orthodoxa в Польше, являющаяся сложным и многоаспектным вопросом, тесно связанным со спецификой обоих культурных пространств – на первый взгляд различных, однако, как оказывается, не так отдаленных и отличающихся друг от друга в своих традициях. Вопрос перевода давней письменности православных славян рассматривается на примере старосербских текстов, а на основе критерия их наличия либо отсутствия в читательской среде, комментируются прежде всего издания антологического характера. В приложении к статье приводится библиографический список около 50 заглавий.

    Artykuł poświęcony jest polskim tłumaczeniom powieści Anne of Green Gables L. M. Montgomery. Autorka skupia się przede wszystkim na tych przekładach, które pochodzą z lat dziewięćdziesiątych XX oraz pierwszych dekad XXI wieku. Zapoczątkowany wówczas renesans popularności twórczości Montgomery, określany mianem „festiwalu kanadyjskiej pisarki”, to fenomen jednocześnie kulturowy i wydawniczo-marketingowy, wpływający na gusta czytelników, ale również na decyzje wydawców oraz tłumaczy. W artykule omówione zostały niektóre aspekty tego zjawiska. Natomiast zarys analizy wybranych fragmentów przekładów przeprowadzono w taki sposób, by pokazać wpisany w nie przez tłumaczy oraz tłumaczkiobraz Kanady. Jednocześnie autorka zwraca uwagę na fakt, że polskie Anie… mogą stanowić źródło wiedzy o różnych aspektach rzeczywistości naszego kraju na przełomie XX i XXI wieku, zwłaszcza o polityce wydawniczej oraz panujących w rodzimej kulturze normach czy modach estetycznych, a także pokutujących stereotypach.
    The article deals with Polish translations of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s book Anne of Green Gables. The author focuses especially on the renderings published at the turn of the 21st century, when the so called “festival of the Canadian writer” began. This phrase is used in reference to the renascence of the popularity of Montgomery’s work in Poland. This cultural and marketing phenomenon not only affectedreaders, but also influenced the publishers’ and translators’ choices. In the article, some dimensions of this casus are discussed. Then some excerpts of translations are compared in order to show the features of the image of Canada inscribed in them by translators. What is more, the author points out that the Polish renderings can provide interesting information about the different aspects of Polish reality at theturn of the 21st century, in particular about the publishing policies and the Polish culture, aesthetic norms and trends or stereotypes.
