The article att empts to defi ne the history of historiography as a subdiscipline of history; it indicates the numerous competences of historians of historiography which are nessesary for undertaking an (auto)refl ection around the history of their discipline, for touching the theoretical and methodological aspects of historiography, and for the study of historicity of historiographical texts. Th e author asks about the current status of the history of historiography and new horizons of research. Regarding the fi eld of changes in the ways of comunication, she sees potential chances for increasing the interest of new recipients in the history of historiography. The author amplifi es the weft of reception, understood as a phenomenon that belongs to the comunication situation occuring between the author of transmission and his recipients. The author refers to the inspiration of the methodological conception of the school of reception aesthetics from Constance (W. Iser, R. Jauss) and the hermeneutics of H-G. Gadamer. Reception is a new concept for presenting the history of historiography as a fi eld of research on the historicity of historical works.

The book contains thirty essays written by experts in their respective fields. Both Stefan Żeromski’s views and many aspects of his writings were here thoroughly examined. It is said that Żeromski, one of the most influential Polish writers at the end of the nineteenth and at the beginning of the twentieth century, strongly affected Polish culture. The contributors of the book undoubtedly proved the thesis.

Seen through the perspective of reception, the works of Witold Gombrowicz constitute a wide range of receptive proposals, selectively updated in the constant dynamic of the interactive discourse between the literary subject and the reader. The reader is invited in a covert partnership with his communication peer (the author–the producer) in their joint journey to the own polyphonic, unidentifiable, mutational ego. The relation to the self, as permanently disputed by otherness, finds its artistic application through the comic as the most powerful weapon against the Form, both in the field of the author and of the recipient.

Opis:
The article aims to present one of the most popular yet at the same time often misunderstood novels by Witold Gombrowicz – Ferdydurke. The article claims that the most important motif in Gombrowicz’s works is the problem with Form and in Ferdydurke the writer tackles this very subject. This novel – though not very long – is a complex and rich analysis of Form related to human life. The concept of Form is the key to an adequate understanding of Ferdydurke: it justifies unusual formal strategies and linguistic means used by the writer. It also explains a complicated plot and proves that what used to be regarded as chaos is in fact an intended strategy used in a logical and consequential way. The article is addressed above all to those, who being unfamiliar with Gombrowicz’s creativity, regard it as strange and incomprehensible. It proves that at least in the case of Ferdydurke this is not true and it is worth reading Gombrowicz’s works once again, as the world created by the writer is fascinating and multidimensional.

Opis:
The article entitled “Rafał Wojaczek: Advertisement in the Light of a Legend” is the first part of a draft which tries to describe a breakthrough moment, in which the biography of Rafał Wojaczek coincides with the beginning of his literary output. The author makes a central point of the formula: “advertisement is the engine of trade” (appearing in the notebook collecting his early poetical notes from the period of studies at Polish philology), which is placed in contrast to the statement by Julian Przyboś: “the art of a poem is the engine of poetry”. The author, examining the earlier editions of Wojaczek’s poems explains (using the sociological and philosophical apparatus) the mechanisms conditioning the phenomenon of the reception of his poetry. At the same time, he launches the notion of pre-reception, which—being a labile notion, situated in the borderland between reception and advertise-ment—indicates a dual position of an object, to which the pre-reception refers (presence and absence at the same time). This, in turn, announces the poetic strategy of Wojaczek, embracing the form and the subject matter of a poem (expressiveness against a precise structure of a poem), and foretells a subsequent part focusing on the question of the actual reception, taking into consideration the somatic character of his output as well as its autothematic involvement.

Opis:
This paper considers the influence of memoirist on realizations of hypotyposis in the Memoirs from Beyond the Grave. Chateaubriand resorts to visual representations for persuasive purposes. The narrator tries to convince the reader of the rightness of his vision by destroying or emphasizing collective, historical myths. Because of this obvious intentionality the hypotyposis reaches an implicit, aporetic function. The reduction of visual, emotional and ideological distance is narrator’s attemp to challenge the reader’s preconceived notions about such major events as: the storming of the Bastille, the women’s march on Versailles or the July Revolution. Therefore, the narrative instance uses argumentative and descriptive plasticity of hypotyposis, even if it leads him to disregard the historical truth. It’s triumph in reader’s consciousness proves that hypotyposis belongs to rhetorical figures based on reception. But the efficacy of hypotyposis requires some rhetori- cal subterfuges such as: surrounding the narrator’s role to spectator, basing historical pictures on the criterion of realism and plausibility, using rhetorical figures connected with the process of association.

The paper attempts to outline the reception of Zbigniew Herbert’s oeuvre in Hungary by presenting both common and divergent places in the reading strategies of the Polish poet’s works adopted by Hungarian critics and writers. Since his literary output gained there significant popularity, one of the article’s goals is to retrace the story of his wide fame among reading public and to point out the role of his literary works in moulding political consciousness. It also contains a description of Herbert’s relations with some key figures of cultural life in the aforementioned country, including such outstanding authors like László Nagy and Sándor Kányádi. Some of Zbigniew Herbert’s poems directly refer to real people and events, therefore the knowledge of context turns out to be essential in the interpretation process.

The students watched the films attentively and were able to present and justify their choices and opinions. The results of the survey created quite a coherent and homogenous picture of the movies. It seems that the students’ interest in the cinema and the capability of critical thinking derive from the media education provided by the school.

It discusses chapter 71 of Metochites’ work, one of several chapters focused on ancient authors, which is dedicated to Plutarch. Metochites praises Plutarch as a wise man and a philosopher and in particular approves of his character. According to Metochites, Plutarch was not tainted by the usual flaws of intellectuals such as envy and arrogance, but was motivated by a pure love of wisdom and generously acknowledged the achievements of his predecessors. Metochites interprets Plutarch’s erudition, polymathia, as a sign of a noble, high-minded nature, and therefore as evidence of moral virtue.
