Opis:: This study presents the results on the structure and volume of many−aged pine stands in private forest holdings managed under semi−selection system. Their volume was ca 150 m3/ha and the basal area ca 20 m3/ha. Pine stands reveal all−age structure. The conditions of reaching the multi−generation pine stands is poor habitat where pine regeneration shows high competitive ability and density distribution of trees, including the occurrence of gaps and openings in stand overstorey ensuring proper conditions for the appearance and development of new regenerations of pine.

Opis:: From the economic point of view, stands managed under selection system are today an interesting alternative to the clearcutting and shelterwood systems. The main advantages of the selection stands is the biological automation of production consisting of the utilisation of the impact of the upper layer trees on the quantitative and qualitative properties of young regeneration and of the lower layer trees (grown under shade), as well as the possibility of limiting tending treatments applied to trees in the youngest development phase resulting in an increase in the average dbh of harvested trees and average unit price of harvested wood.

Opis:: Management activities in uneven−aged forests are based on a prescribed yield subjectively set by an inspector according to silvicultural needs. The findings show that in uneven−aged selection stands prescribed yield was calculated at a lower level than in irregular shelterwood stands. Prescribed yield determined by silvicultural needs differ from actual yield, so it does not meet the actual silvicultural needs of uneven−aged stands and therefore should not be recommended for use in the forest management practice any more.
