People have always been trying to live my life so that it has a sense to be able to say that they live happily and fulfill their life expectations. Not everyone will succeed, however, and not everyone is happy with her life. So what determines our life satisfaction, which predisposes us to seek to improve their lives, what determines our level of subjective satisfaction? The answers to these questions are trying to find peace of life satisfaction abstinent addicts, which may be on one side of a subjective construct, on the other hand, the starting point for assessing the broader concept of quality of their lives.

Quality of life is satisfaction with satisfying the whole human needs. Assessing the quality of life is a very difficult task, because there is not one universal measurement. However, the issue of quality of life enjoys interest, and research work is still carried out. This article is a review, its task to present the current state of research. Its present a comparative analysis of research on the quality of life. In addition, the article describes quality of life indicators and quality of life models. The aim of the article is also the reflection on the concept of quality of life in the perspective a social sciences.

It its theoretical part the article describes the basic psychological determinants of quality of and satisfaction with life. The empirical part of the article presents the results of the survey conducted among the Polish army soldiers using the Satisfaction with Life Scale and the Scale of satisfaction with individual areas and aspects of life. The results are compared with a nationwide sample.

Interest in “quality of life” issues originated in the 1950s. The concept found applications in fields such as economics, social policy, medicine, sociology and psychology. Quality of life could perhaps also be an object of study for security sciences as well. Despite the continued popularity of this category, social scientists are yet to develop a commonly agreed upon definition of the concept. This paper constitutes an attempt at answering the question of whether the need for security is related to quality of life and whether it is valid to introduce a new conceptual category in the form of quality of life security. If so, then it is necessary to determine whether it is a measure that is subjective or objective. Human needs such as security and quality of life are what motivates human actions and activity. If one of the above needs is not being met, the individual become destabilised. The homogenisation and standardisation of scientific concepts would render it possible to compare data from an interdisciplinary point of view.

The article is a review paper on the issue of life satisfaction in seniors. Nowadays, it is very difficult for the elderly to achieve an optimum level of life satisfaction due to the changing reality and their difficulty adapting to it, changes in their functioning resulting from the aging process, abandonment by their families, poor social and living conditions or lack of proper medical care. These factors inspire reflection on the actual state of the sense of life satisfaction in seniors. The aim of the article is to explain the concept of life satisfaction, describe the notions related to it along with similarities and differences in meaning between them, investigate and interpret contemporary theories of life satisfaction, and show the diversity of methodological approaches and relationality in conducting research on life satisfaction in seniors. The idea is also to highlight the importance of research on life satisfaction in elderly people and to develop a senior citizen policy. Data collection was based on the method of content analysis of scientific research studies in the field of social sciences.

Incredible advances in medical treatment and technology caused a decrease in newborn mortality as well as increase in survival of infants with serious functional and structural deficiencies. This situation creates numerous medico-legal and ethical dilemmas strictly associated with value of life with serious dysfunctions. The author of the article focuses on the subject of the quality of life within rural areas. She presents possible actions that might be undertaken at the local levels in order to improve the satisfaction of life in the country. The main area of the presented research concerns the Podlasie region, a typical agricultural part of the country. The author of the article analyses the defi nition of the quality of life and presents the variables shaping it, as well as focuses on the research initiatives within the area of the quality of life in Poland and other counties. The article demonstrates results of the research in the area of quality of life in Podlasie region, indicates its weak and strong sides, and examines the causes of the current states of affairs. At the end of the article, the author analyses instruments of fi nancial support form UE founds dedicated to improvement of quality of life in Podlasie region.

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disease. Due to a constantly growing rate of incidence and the lowering age of PD patients it is becoming a more serious social problem. The aim of this study is to assess the quality of life amongst care givers for people suffering from Parkinson's disease. The work includes research on the influence of physical rehabilitation of PD patients on the quality of life of their care givers. The research covered care givers (n=50) of PD patients diagnosed with third stage PD according to the Hoehn and Yahr classification. The diagnostics survey with a questionnaire addressed to care givers looking after PD patients was used. The questionnaire was created by the authors of this paper. The survey consisted of two parts, in which the first was to obtain basic information on the present status of the care giver, while the other was to verify life satisfaction level, using Jurczynski's Scale of Life Satisfaction. Statistical analysis showed significant differences in all analyzed statements between groups. Better effects were observed in the group participating in rehabilitation. Care for people suffering from PD affects the quality of life of caregivers. Participation in the process of rehabilitation of patients with PD improves the quality of life of caregivers.

The concept of life span assumes that old age is a period of development being a balance of gains and losses. Aging goes hand in hand with increasing losses and decreasing gains. The system theory perceives a human being as a psychophysical system which can be easily seen in critical periods, e.g. old age. Thus, it is assumed that psyche and soma are interdependent. Taking into consideration the way old age is perceived, the balance of way and the feeling of life control, one may assume that these factors may influence physical abilities and somatic health of an organism. Old age is not an illness but increased vulnerability to illnesses. Speaking objectively, one may say that age as a feature of getting old weakens the immunological system of the organism in a natural way and thus it increases the vulnerability to a variety of illnesses and decreases physical abilities. It is possible to avoid the physiological processes connected with aging. One may hypothesize, however, that a positive approach towards old age, good balance of life and a feeling of internal control slow down the processes of aging of cells and vice versa. The overall aim of slowing down these processes is not to prolong human life but to increase the quality of life. The research carried out was based on the assumption that the way a person sees his or her life, the balance of life and the feeling of control go hand in hand with physical agility. The research covered 436 people, i.e. 120 men and 316 women, all of them over 60. A set of mutual relationships of the indicated variables was determined and an analysis of repeated regression was made. The conclusion is: better balance of life and better positive self-image go hand in hand with better physical agility of the examined individuals. It is difficult to say which of the factors are primary or secondary. It seems that there is an interdependence.

This article presents studies on the determinants of the quality of life in people over the expected retirement age. Influence of health, Big Five personality dimensions, sense of coherence, purpose in life, activity and dwelling-place on the quality of life among the elders have been discussed. The separate chapter presents the retirement transition and additional factors that can affect life satisfaction in this period of life. Differences between the results of the presented studies indicate the necessity of further research into this subject taking into consideration the interaction between characteristics of a person and situational variables and both affective and cognitive aspects of quality of life.

The presented study focuses on the role of applied ethics(cist) in managing the quality of life in the post-risk society. Given that, from an ethical point of view, it is appropriate to reflect the quality of life also through other than quantitative, i.e. objective and therefore also measurable indicator, it is important to be also focused on the action of a person that leads to increasing his/her satisfaction, the feeling of happiness as a subjective indicator. The aim of this study is to point out the importance of ethical parameterization of the quality of life as well as the search for suitable concepts in its fulfilment.

The concept of quality of life has during the last few decades become an important category, both theoretical (philosophical, sociological) and political. This situation generates the need to study comprehensively this category. In the paper, the concept of quality of life of individual and the concept of social quality of life are analyzed, availing of ontology of human life.

W artykule badawczym zaprezentowano wyniki badań ankietowych dotyczących subiektywnego poziomu satysfakcji z jakości życia osobistego i zawodowego, przeprowadzonych na reprezentatywnej próbie mieszkańców powiatu wałeckiego. Na ich podstawie można zauważyć, iż respondenci są relatywnie bardziej zadowoleni ze swojego życia pozazawodowego niż z pracy, jak i przywiązują do niego większe znaczenie. Problemem, z którym boryka się znaczna część osób jest natomiast równoważenie pracy z życiem osobistym, co ma istotny wpływ na jakość życia. Badania różnych aspektów jakości życia w układach lokalnych stanowią ważne źródło informacji dla władz miasta/gminy/powiatu i powinny być uwzględniane w polityce rozwoju określonej jednostki terytorialnej, jak też stanowią jeden z mierników skuteczności zarządzania w ujęciu lokalnym.
The research article presents the results of the survey concerning the subjective level of satisfaction with the quality of personal and professional life. The research was carried out on a representative sample of residents of Wałcz County. On the basis of the results, it can be seen that the respondents are relatively more satisfied with their after-work life than with their work. Moreover, a greater importance is assigned to their personal life. A significant number of people is facing the problem of finding a balance between work and private life, which has a significant impact on the quality of life. Studies of various aspects of the quality of life in local systems are an important source of information for the authorities of the city/municipality/county and should be taken into account in the development policy of a specific territorial unit, as well as be one of the measures of the management effectiveness in local terms.
В исследовательской статье представлены результаты опросов, касающихся субъективного уровня удовлетворения качеством личной и профессиональной жизни, проведенных на представительной выборке жителей повята Валч. На их основе можно заметить, что респонденты относительно более удовлетворены качеством своей личной жизни, нежели трудом, а также они придают ей большее значение. Проблемой же, с которой сталкивается значительная часть людей, является равновесие между трудом и личной жизнью, что оказывает существенное влияние на качество жизни. Изучение разных аспектов качества жизни на местах представляет собой важный источник информации для властей города/гмины/повята, и их следует учитывать в политике развития определенной территориальной единицы, а равно они представляют собой один из измерителей действенности управления на местах.

The aim of the article above is an attempt of the natural approach of based categories of bioethics, namely quality of life, the value of human life, and the sanctity of life (the quality of life makes its sanctity). By thorough analysis, in the biological aspect of goodness and evil and by study the emerging of rational and free (human) Being in the evolutional perspective the effort of showing of uniqueness, specificity, and immunity of a human person is undertaken. The analysis tends toward creating a basis for bioethical valuation. Bioethics as interdisciplinary science has to be based on interdisciplinary anthropology taking into account the ontic-existential structure of human beings.
