Opis:: Empirical models, developed on the basis of the results of tests on dust deposition and changes in concentration of dust in the protective zone, are the proposed tools to reduce risk of coal dust explosion. The paper presents possible applications of such models to assess and monitor volume of dust in a protective zone. Underground tests were conducted in the tailgate and headgate of longwall 121 of Brzeszcze Coal Mine. Basing on the analysis, the empirical models describing relationship between changes in dust concentration, and dust deposition in a protective zone of roadways: headgate and tailgate of longwall 121 in Brzeszcze Coal Mine, were developed. The developed models show a possibility of predicting explosive dust deposition in a protective zone. After additional research is run, it is planned to generalise the developed empirical model, which will enable monitoring of protective zones.

Opis:: One of the methods of fighting the risk of coal dust's explosion is its neutralization through washing and misting of mining sediment which lays on the mining excavation and through misting on the organs of hewer machines or on the dumpings and inundations of mining product's output. Coal dust, especially its smallest fractions which create the biggest risk of explosion, is generally the substance which cannot be easily moistened by water. Water solutions of different wetting agents are applied in hard bituminous coal mines in order to enhance the effectiveness of coal dust's moistening during the washing and misting. Therefore it is indicated to conduct research and evaluate the effectiveness of its effects in order to select optimally the type of wetting agents and their concentration in water solutions depending on coal dust's properties (type of coal the particular dust comes from) and on percentage participation of non-inflammable parts which are constant in mine dust. This paper presents a method to evaluate the effectiveness of coal or mine dust's moistening conducted with the use of water solutions of wetting agents in order to deprive the dust of its volatility, is based on the method of measurement of time of complete moistening of that dust's one-gram samples with the use of “pure” water or water solutions of the particular wetting agent.

Opis:: Walka z zagrożeniem wybuchem pyłu węglowego opiera się na stosowaniu pyłowej profilaktyki przeciwwybuchowej. Jedną, z linii obrony, przynoszącą bardzo dobre rezultaty jest neutralizacja pyłu węglowego poprzez zraszanie i zmywanie wodą. Na skuteczność tych działań ogromny wpływ ma zjawisko zwilżalności pyłu węglowego. Pyły węglowe występujące w większości polskich kopalń są pyłami trudno zwilżalnymi, co spowodowane jest zbyt dużym napięciem powierzchniowym wody. Aby uzyskać odpowiednią skuteczność zmywania oraz zraszania należy stosować środki powierzchniowo czynne, tzw. zwilżacze. W artykule omówiono zjawisko zwilżalności pyłów węglowych oraz sposób działania i właściwości dostępnych na polskim rynku zwilżaczy.
The struggle with the threat of coal dust explosion is based upon the usage of dust counter-explosive prevention. One of the lines of defense, which brings very good results, is the neutralization of coal dust through sprinkling and washing with water. The phenomenon of coal dust wettability has an enourmous impact on the effectiveness of these actions. Coal dust which occurs in the majority of Polish mines is hard-wettable which is caused by too high surface tension of water. In order to obtain the suitable effectiveness of washing and sprinkling it is necessary to use surface-active agents, so called dampers. The phenomenon of wettability of coal dust as well as the way of action and properties of dampers available on the Polish market were discussed in this paper.

Opis:: Jednym z bardziej niebezpiecznych zagrożeń występujących w krajowym i światowym podziemnym górnictwie węgla kamiennego jest zagrożenie wybuchem pyłu węglowego. Wystąpienie takiego wybuchu pociąga za sobą ogromne straty materialne oraz jest bardzo niebezpieczne dla załogi. Bardzo istotne znaczenie dla ograniczenia możliwości wystąpienia takich zdarzeń mają działania profilaktyczne, których prowadzenie powinno być poprzedzone rzetelną oceną ryzyka wystąpienia wybuchu pyłu węglowego. W artykule omówiono mechanizm powstawania i rozwoju wybuchu pyłu węglowego. Scharakteryzowano czynniki, jakie muszą być spełnione, aby doszło do wybuchu oraz przedstawiono założenia metody oceny ryzyka wystąpienia wybuchu pyłu węglowego. Przedstawiono także praktyczny przykład wyznaczenia wskaźnika ryzyka wystąpienia wybuchu pyły węglowego w rejonie ściany eksploatacyjnej. Przedstawiona metodyka zdaniem autorów powinna znaleźć szerokie zastosowanie w praktyce górniczej.
One of the most dangerous natural hazards occurring in the world and domestic underground hard coal mining is coal dust explosion hazard, being a side product of coal mining process. Occurrence of such explosions brings huge material losses and is very dangerous for the crew. Very significant meaning for the limitation of possibility of occurrence of such events have prophylactic actions, which should be preceded with reliable assessment of the explosion occurrence risk. In the paper, a mechanism of formation and development of coal dust explosion in the region of mining longwall was described. There were characterized conditions which has to be fulfilled to explosion could occur, and assumptions of method of risk assessment of such explosion was presented. Also a practical example of determination of risk index of coal dust explosion occurrence in the region of mining longwall was presented. Presented methodology, in the opinion of authors, should have found a broad application in the mining practice.
