Opis:
The article focuses on analyzing how Polish youth understand the purpose and meaning of life, taking into account the contemporary tendency to marginalize or eliminate the aspect of religion from the public sphere. The growing belief that man is the main source of progress, and that objective values and transcendent meaning are merely illusions, provides an important context for research on one’s perception of meaning in life. The research, conducted in the last quarter of 2023, employed a diagnostic survey method using the questionnaire technique. The study found justification in the field of fundamental theology, whose task is to show meaning in life to contemporary man. The uniqueness of the study lies in conducting a sociological and theological analysis among young people with faith, allowing for a better understanding of how religious aspects influence their perception of the meaning of life.

The article deals with the application of drama, a solution for inclusiveness in teaching children with special educational needs in the preschool and elementary school education spectrum, with the use of the Kolb cycle in the construction of classes. It presents the main principles of a training which was provided to a group of 78 students of pre-school and early school education, including forty-two professionally active teachers. Subsequently, in order to diagnose the application in practice of the acquired skills, a questionnaire of the author’s own design was used in a survey con- ducted one month and one year after the training. The results revealed that, according to the assumptions, professionally active teachers generally use drama in pre-schools and at school; what is more, the Kolb cycle is used creatively in combination with other educational and preventive techniques.

As different areas of life and an individual’s life roles undergo transformation and intermingle increasingly, the ways that people get married and start up families change as well. A dual-career marriage is a modern family model, within which both spouses realize, on the one hand, broadly defined professional careers under conditions of competitive job market and competitive forms of employment, often occupying managerial positions; and life careers on the other hand, those related to family, marital roles, housekeeping and earning the livelihood. As compared with traditional models and egalitarian partnerships, a dual-career marriage involves more sacrifices and threats, but can also provide many benefits. In the study it was attempted to make inquiries in that matter, rooted in our wish to examine this specific link between dual-career couples and a subjective sense of partners’ quality of life, particularly in the aspect of its meaning – as compared with that of spouses in traditional marriages and egalitarian partnerships. Then a more detailed purpose of this study was to verify whether satisfaction with one’s own achievements in partners of a dual-career marriage, both in their professional and extraprofessional life, together with the level of experienced stress are possible significant factors influencing the relation between role conflict and a reported level of sense of purpose in life. The study was conducted during 2013-2014 and involved examining a total of 150 couples in dual-career marriages (300 participants), i.e. relationships within which both partners realized their professional career in the competitive job market, oftentimes they occupied managerial posts and reconciled professional life with the role of a parent. All investigated participants in dualcareer relationships had higher education, their age varied from 28 to 40 years and each marriage had at least 1 child. The control group was composed of 160 egalitarian partnerships and 135 traditional marriages. In order to verify the research questions and hypotheses stated above, four diagnostic tools were used: Purpose in Life test, “Work-Life Balance” Questionnaire, Stress Level Questionnaire and Sense of Happiness Questionnaire. The analysis of empirical material presented that partners in dual-career relationships reported the highest level of experienced stress, fatigue, tension and role conflict, but also the highest levels of satisfaction with one’s achievements or the family’s financial situation – factors which can neutralize the negative impact of experienced stress and conflicts on the general sense of life meaning. Also presented that experiencing role conflicts is negatively correlated with a general sense of purpose in life and with satisfaction with one’s accomplishments, at the same time being positively correlated with experienced stress. It can be noticed, however, that in the calculated model a (high) level of satisfaction with one’s achievements acts as a specific buffer against the influence of experienced role conflict and stress.

Getting old is not a new phenomenon. People have been getting old for ages – it is normal. However, over the recent years it can be observed that Polish society is ageing. It happens as progress in medicine gives the opportunity to increase average lifespan; at the same time the birth rate is decreasing dramatically. The elderlies are becoming more and more numerous group. That is why it is important to get knowledge on the ageing process as well as on the problems of existential nature including the sense of the life meaning among the people entering into the old age.
Starzenie się nie jest zjawiskiem nowym. Ludzie od zawsze się starzeją i to jest normalne. Na przestrzeni ostatnich lat można jednak zauważyć, że społeczeństwo w Polsce się starzeje. Dzieje się tak, ponieważ postęp w medycynie daje możliwość wydłużenia życia ludzkiego, przy czym liczba urodzeń drastycznie spada. Osoby starsze stają się coraz liczniejszą grupą, dlatego ważne jest poznanie specyfiki procesu starzenia się oraz potrzeb, jakie mają ludzie starsi. Istotne jest również, by skupić się na problemach natury egzystencjalnej, m.in. na poczuciu sensu życia osób w podeszłym wieku.

Recent research into the nature of self in artificial and biological systems raises interest in a uniquely determining immutable sense of self, a “metaphysical ‘I’” associated with inviolable personal values and moral convictions that remain constant in the face of environmental change, distinguished from an object “me” that changes with its environment. Complementary research portrays processes associated with self as multimodal routines selectively enacted on the basis of contextual cues informing predictive self or world models, with the notion of the constant, pervasive and invariant sense of self associated with a multistable attractor set aiming to ensure personal integrity against threat of disintegrative change. This paper proposes that an immutable sense of self emerges as a global attractor which can be described as a project ideal self-situation embodied in frontal medial processes during more or less normal adolescent development, and that thereafter serves to orient agency in the more or less free development of embodied potentials over the life course in effort to realize project conditions, phenomenally identified with the felt pull towards this end as purpose of and source of meaning in life. So oriented, life-long self-development aims to embody solutions to problems at different timescales depending on this embodied purpose, ultimately in the service of evolutionary processes securing organism populations against threats of disintegrative change over timespans far beyond that of the individual. After characterizing the target sense of self, research circling this target is briefly surveyed. Self as global project and developmental neural correlates are proposed. Then, the paper discusses some implications for research in biological and artificial systems. Building from earlier work in cognitive neurorobotics, discussion affirms the value of reinforcement rituals including prayer in metaphysical self-development, considers implications for value alignment and rights associated with free will in the context of artificial intelligence and robot religion, and concludes by emphasizing the importance of self-development toward project ideals as source of meaning in life in the current social-political environment.

Poczucie dobrostanu odnosi się do własnej osobistej percepcji świata oraz odczuwania sensu istnienia. Wysokie poczucie dobrostanu przekłada się w sposób pozytywny na pracę zawodową, relacje z innymi ludźmi oraz na ogólny stan zdrowia. Osoby o wysokim dobrostanie subiektywnym często są lepiej oceniane, zarówno jako podwładni, jak i przełożeni, osiągają wyższe wyniki, łatwiej przeciwdziałają wypaleniu zawodowemu oraz charakteryzują się mniejszą absencją w miejscu pracy. Badania przeprowadzone w grupie 90 osób – pedagogów specjalnych i terapeutów pracujących z dziećmi/uczniami z niepełnosprawnością w szkołach specjalnych, integracyjnych i włączających (ogólnodostępnych) – dotyczące subiektywnego poczucia dobrostanu psychicznego w sześciu dymensjach: samoakceptacja, osobisty rozwój, cel w życiu, panowanie nad otoczeniem, autonomia, pozytywne relacje z innymi wskazują, że respondenci, ogólnie rzecz biorąc, są zadowoleni ze swojego życia, aczkolwiek poziom tej zmiennej w poszczególnych bada-nych aspektach jest zróżnicowany i wraz z wiekiem się obniża. Badania pozwoliły nie tylko na poznanie percepcji własnego życia tej grupy osób, lecz także na wskazanie potrzebnych różnorodnych oddziaływań, zwłaszcza o charakterze terapeutycznym i profilaktycznym, służących zapobieganiu zjawisku wypalenia zawodowego oraz podnoszących jakość ich życia.
The research on subjective psychological well-being with 90 people – special educators and therapists working with disabled children and pupils in integrated and inclusive institutions (commonly accessible). The study focused on subjective well-being, reflected in 6 dimensions (self-acceptance, personal growth, life aims, environment mastery, autonomy and positive relationships with others) proves that respondents are generally satisfied with their lives, although the level of satisfaction varies in different aspects and decreases with age. The research on subjective psychological well-being with 90 people – special educators and therapists working with disabled children and pupils in integrated and inclusive institutions (commonly accessible). The study focused on subjective well-being, reflected in 6 dimensions (self-acceptance, personal growth, life aims, environment mastery, autonomy and positive relationships with others) proves that respondents are generally satisfied with their lives, although the level of satisfaction varies in different aspects and decreases with age. The research made it possible to analyze individual perception of life of the mentioned group of people as well as to propose undertaking various therapeutic activities helping to avoid professional burn-out and improve the quality of life.
