Opis:
The article contains an analysis of the word formation of proper names which are used in the texts of advertisements. The analyzed examples are drawn from the texts of advertisements found on television, radio, press, the Internet etc. which were produced at the end of 20 th century and the beginning of 21 st century. The article analyses two categories of these proper names: word formations which are used in contemporary Polish language (f.e. Robuś, Marysia, Stefcia, Kasia, Jasio, Krzyś, Rozalka, Basia, Bartuś, Sabinka, Julka, Karinka, Tomek, Adaś, Goździkowa) and neologisms f.e. Zapobiegalska, Zarażalski, Kichalska, Krzywonogi, Przyklapiusz, Musztarderowie, TurboDymoMan, SuperEs, Zozolka, Łazienkowo). The analysis conducted in the article proves that both types of proper names, which are word formation derivatives, appear relatively often in the texts of advertisements. This is the case since they are easy to form (advertisements take the majority of them from usage) and can perform many functions, which advertisements willingly use for their own needs. Proper names that are word formation derivatives and just proper names serve mainly as an assessment as they connote the values appreciated both culturally and socially and the values attributed to proper names are carried on the advertised products. Proper names which are derivatives create a desired picture of advertised products more expressively than other proper names, thanks to their clear word formation structure. Moreover, they expose their commercial assets so they fully use and at the same time cocreate the system of values of consumption culture.

Opis:
The article is a synthetic discussion of the discourse analysis method from the onomastic perspective. In our opinion, proper names are not merely linguistic signs - they are also social constructs, often highly politicised, forming various textual and discursive relations. Names understood in that way are often crucial to (re)constructing  social reality. Thanks to the methodological orientation used, names can be a good tool for identification, discovery and interpretation of important aspects of discourse. In our opinion, the use of particular names is not random, but it helps us discover objects vital for the analysis of axiology and ideology of discourse. The method we propose should provide tools used in analyses of all onymic spheres (name categories). The text also highlights the theoretical framework of the method and a proposal of a research procedure in onomastic disourse analysis (ODA) is shown. Moreover, examples of analysis domain are indicated: discourse types and name categories related to them.
Celem artykułu jest syntetyczne omówienie metody analizy dyskursu w perspektywie onomastycznej. W naszym ujęciu nazwy własne to nie tylko znaki językowe – to również konstrukty społeczne, często silnie zideologizowane, wchodzące w rozliczne relacje tekstowe i dyskursywne. Nazwy tak pojmowane odgrywają często kluczową rolę w (re)konstruowaniu rzeczywistości społecznej. Dzięki takiej orientacji metodologicznej mogą one stanowić dobre narzędzie do identyfikacji, ujawnienia i interpretacji kluczowych aspektów dyskursu. Użycie nazw – takich a nie innych – nie jest w naszym rozumieniu przypadkowe, ale odsłania ważne dla aksjologii i ideologii danego dyskursu obiekty. Proponowana przez nas metodologia powinna zapewnić instrumentarium służące do analiz wszystkich sfer onimicznych (kategorii nazewniczych). W tekście naszkicowane jest teoretyczne tło metody, a także pokazana propozycja postępowania badawczego w ramach onomastycznej analizy dyskursu (OAD). Wskazane zostały również przykładowe domeny analiz: typy dyskursów i przyporządkowane im kategorie nazewnicze.

Przedmiotem analizy w niniejszym artykule jest polski zaimek ten występujący przy nazwach własnych w kontekstach w rodzaju ten Martynowski, ten Marek, ten Gdańsk, ten Giewont. Ze względu na współwystępowanie w bezpośrednim sąsiedztwie dwóch wyrażeń prymarnie pełniących funkcję wykładników referencji szczegółowej określonej można wysunąć hipotezę, że zaimek ten w tego typu układach nie jest użyty referencjalnie, przestaje tym samym być demonstrativum, w związku z czym ma inne niż podstawowe dla niego właściwości językowe. Celem badań podjętych w tym tekście jest określenie językowej specyfiki takich wystąpień operatora ten, w tym odniesienie się do tez dominujących w literaturze specjalistycznej, dotyczących m.in. ekspresywności takich użyć. Wybrane do zbadania połączenia słowa ten z nazwami własnymi zostaną zestawione z nieobligatoryjnymi wystąpieniami tego zaimka przy rzeczownikach (jak np. w zdaniu: Na tym wczorajszym indyku można sobie było zęby połamać).
This article analyses the Polish pronoun ten (‘this’) located next to proper names in contexts such as ten Martynowski, ten Marek, ten Gdańsk, ten Giewont. Due to its occurrence in immediately next to two expressions which primarily function as exponents of specific reference, one can put forward a hypothesis that the investigated pronoun is not applied in its referential function in this type of settings. Thus, it ceases to be a demonstrative pronoun, and assumes linguistic properties other than its basic ones. The aim of this study is to determine the linguistic nature of such occurrences of ten, also in reference to the thesis prevailing in the relevant literature, which, among other aspects, concerns the expressive value of such applications of the pronoun. The combinations of ten with proper names selected for analysis will be juxtaposed with nonobligatory occurrences of this pronoun next to nouns (as, for example, in the sentence: Na tym wczorajszym indyku można sobie było zęby połamać (You could break your teeth on that turkey yesterday).

The presented paper argues the importance of proper names in fantasy and science fiction in general but focuses primarily on the highly successful Star Wars franchise. Worldwide popularity of George Lucas’ creation resulted in the need of translation of Star Wars materials to other languages. Translators were given a task, among others, of creating a glossary of proper names essential to the overall story, including such as Jedi and Sith. This paper is an analysis of translation of these proper names in Star Wars novels released before the year 2000 in German (61), Polish (39) and Russian (18). It presents all variants proposed by the translators before the final one was canonized and comments on their choices and used strategies. The analysis shows that while German and Polish translators usually retained use of previously established versions, Russian translators proved to be less consequent in this matter.
Niniejszy artykuł poświęcono istotności nazw własnych w fantastyce na przykładzie amerykańskiej franczyzy Gwiezdne Wojny. Światowa popularność stworzonego przez George’a Lucasa uniwersum zrodziła zapotrzebowanie na tłumaczenie towarzyszących mu materiałów. Jednym z zadań tłumaczy było stworzenie glosariusza nazw własnych – kluczowych dla fabuły, wielokrotnie powracających, takich jak np. Jedi oraz Sith. Niniejszy artykuł stanowi analizę tłumaczeń wymienionych nazw własnych w powieściach z serii Gwiezdne Wojny opublikowanych w językach niemieckim (61), polskim (41) i rosyjskim (19) przed 2000 rokiem. Zawiera on wszystkie zaproponowane w nich przez tłumaczy warianty, komentuje ich wybory i wykorzystane strategie. Analiza pokazuje, że podczas gdy tłumacze niemieccy i polscy z reguły wykorzystywali zaproponowane wcześniej wersje, o tyle rosyjscy postępowali pod tym względem mniej konsekwentnie.

In the article, I discuss the names of disco polo bands (disco polo is a kind of Polish pop music) and songs. I analyse the names from the linguistic and cultural perspective. The article discusses the problem of place, role, meaning and functions of proper names in post-modern advertising texts. The description and analysis proposed herein concern anthroponyms and geonyms. The presentation of the material for analysis, taken from the mass media in the years from 2010–2013, was divided into three thematic groups: 1) authentic anthroponyms in the advertising text; 2) non-authentic anthroponyms (artificial names invented by copywriters) as a persuasive advertising component; 3) geonyms in the consumerist communications space. The issues discussed have been divided into problem categories in order to present the material for analysis more clearly, and to highlight the complexity of this process. The problematic aspects have been described within the context of post-modern changes in the identity of language and communication.

This paper is a second part of a publication devoted to the level of nomination skills of children aged four to six. Whilst the first part focused on toys: humanoid and not modelled on living beings – this paper examines the naming of animals and plush toys modeled on animals. The author analyses methods used by children to create proper names (chrematonyms) and elements of extralinguistic reality rooted in these names. The influence of socio-cultural factors (age and gender) on the development of naming skills of pre-schoolers is also examined.
Artykuł jest drugą częścią publikacji poświęconej badaniom nad poziomem umiejętności nominacyjnych dzieci w wieku od czterech do sześciu lat. W poprzedniej części skupiono się na zabawkach humanoidalnych oraz zabawkach niewzorowanych na istotach żywych. W niniejszym opracowaniu zbadane zostało nazewnictwo zwierząt oraz pluszowych zabawek wzorowanych na zwierzętach. Przeanalizowano metody tworzenia nazw przez dzieci oraz elementy rzeczywistości pozajęzykowej utrwalone w tych onimach. Zbadano ponadto wpływ czynników społeczno-kulturowych (wieku, płci) na rozwój umiejętności nominacyjnych przedszkolaków.

This article focuses on the place that proper names originating from rock, or popular music in general, take or could take in dictionaries of proper names. It starts with an overview of onomastica published thus far, revealing a limited interest of Polish researchers in proper nouns related to this form of artistic activity. This discovery prompted the author to share his suggestions regarding such an onomasticon, or even onomastica, where names from popular music and specific categories would take a central place. Conditions are proposed which such a dictionary can or must meet based on the categories used in lexicography such as macro-, micro-, media- and megastructure. The final section of the article presents examples of the proposed lexicographic entries used in practice. Prepared on the example of the proper noun ‘Yes’, the first proposal is to limit the term description to basic data (spelling, pronunciation, explanation of the name, inflection in Polish). The second option develops the entry and refines it: firstly, by adopting the microstructure plan with the special role of a commentary, and secondly, in the context of the media-structure, i.e. by presenting it among other related entries.

Proper names should be recognized as a significant factor of a literary character and in broader perspective of bringing closer the novel problems. The main novel character, Leon Płoszowski, percepts and sense the world through the self-analysis and analysis of the reality surrounding him. Proper names above all emphasize two features: erudition and cosmopolitism of the novel character. His formation and contact through the years with high culture do not help him to put the world – both: one inside and one outside him – in order, but all of this remains a stigma in a form of association everything with art, literature, philosophy etc. It is confirmed in the novel by numerous proper names. The fact that proper names in basic for Leon Płoszowski characteristics places in the novel apply mostly to the past, causes that they form sort of „onomastic museum”.

W artykule opisano zjawisko mody onimicznej związanej z komercyjną próbą wyzyskania cech i właściwości leksemów gwary górnośląskiej jako komponentów nazw użytkowych promujących przestrzeń subregionu. The article the phenomenon of onymic fashion connected with a commercial attempt exploit characteristics and properties of Upper Silesian dialect lexemes as components of functional names promoting the subregion was described. Considering the complex polysystem of persuasive conditions, the names were described from the perspective of cultural linguistics, socjolinguistics and pragmalinguistics.

Test fluencji słownej (TFS) jest najbardziej rozpowszechnionym i najprostszym narzędziem do diagnozy neuropsychologicznej. Liczba doniesień na temat wyników uzyskanych przez dzieci jest znikoma w porównaniu z badaniami dorosłych. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie wyników oraz analiza badań dotyczących płynności słownej semantycznej w zakresie wybranych kategorii nazw własnych (imiona, miasta, rzeki) u dzieci 5-letnich – bez zaburzeń neurologicznych, w normie intelektualnej. Celem badań jest ukazanie różnicy w zasobie leksykalnym grupy badanych dzieci na przykładzie kategorii nazw własnych.
The Verbal Fluency Test (VFT) is the most widespread and simplest tool for neuropsychological diagnosis. The number of reports on children’s results is negligible compared to adult studies. The aim of the article is to present the results and to analyze the research on semantic verbal fluency in the field of selected categories of proper names (names, cities, rivers) in 5-year-old children - without neurological disorders, within the intellectual norm. The aim of the research is to show the difference in the lexical resource of the group of surveyed children on the example of the category of proper names.

Badania pogłębiono o analizę wpływu czynników społeczno-kulturowych (wieku, płci) na umiejętności nominacyjne.
This paper aims to investigate the level of naming skills of children between four and six years of age and to check if pre-schoolers, while naming new toys on the ad-hoc basis, do it randomly or whether the process is systemic. The methods, as well as the elements of extra-linguistic reality, used in the creation of names by children are analyzed. Moreover, efforts were made to deepen the study by analysing the influence of socio-cultural factors such as age and gender on nomination skills of children.

T he present paper examines the issue of conceptual metaphors related to proper names. According to the Lakoff/Johnson’s theory, two types of metaphor are sustained – orientational metaphors and ontological metaphors. The author shows how proper names may be a part of source domains, as well as how they function within the new metaphorical expressions. Some examples from the Polish lexicon are discussed, e.g. the names of Himalaya, Mount Everest, Marian Ditch, Waterloo and the like. Some conceptual metaphors, such as the figuration of the state as a human being, and other sub-metaphors which can be derived from this, are also examined. Proper names may function within the metaphorical expressions due to their specificity, and because their denotata are closer to the human experience.

W artykule przedstawione są wyznaczniki gatunkowe tzw. fantasy humorystycznej oraz analiza nazewnictwa występującego w tego typu utworach. Nazwy własne (antroponimy, toponimy) oraz deskrypcje jednostkowe pełniące funkcję nazw własnych posiadają różne źródła ekspresywności, np. naruszanie zamkniętości klasy imion, wyzyskiwanie humorystycznych apelatywów w podstawach onimów, podkreślanie obcości leksykalnej nazw własnych, paronomazja, ekspresja fonetyczna itp. Takie nomina propria pełnią najczęściej funkcje semantyczną, ekspresywną i intertekstualną poprzez odwołania do nazw własnych z innych tekstów literackich oraz ich modyfikacje. Znaczenie nazwy własnej najczęściej odczytać można w kontekście, w którym nazwa ta się pojawia. Utwory zaliczane do fantasy humorystycznej zawierają ciekawy typ nazewnictwa, łączący wyznaczniki kilku nurtów onomastyki stylistycznej: realistycznego, semantycznego, ekspresywnego i fantastyczno- baśniowego.
The article discusses features of comic fantasy and analyses names occurring in the texts representative of the genre. Proper names (anthroponyms, toponyms) and individual descriptions that serve the function of proper names have different sources of expressiveness. They include violating of the confinement of classes of personal names, using humorous appellatives in the stems of onyms, emphasizing foreign origins of proper names, and phonetic expression. Nomina propia discussed in the article most often serve the semantic, expressive or intertextual function through references to proper names in other literary texts and their modifications. The meaning of a given proper name can be usually understood in the context. The names in comic fantasy texts are extremely interesting since they combine features of different stylistic onomasty: realistic, semantic, expressive and fantastic.
