Opis:: The author is describing the subject of esthetics in historic book printing in Warsaw printing hauses from 15th up to mid 20th century. He starts a polemics against a well grounded assumption among book historians that Warsaw printers in their origins (up to the end of 18th century) created products of inferior quality, when the material book form is considered. A number of examples are shown to present the craftsmanship of printers in the given period. The paper describes also the conjunction between visual form of book printed in Warsaw and the styles and tendencies in contemporary European typography and graphic arts. International trade liaisons, including close cooperation, employing foreign specialists like designers, printers and publishers, as well as quick reactions for the technology advances and implementing the novelties in Warsaw printing houses are mentioned.

Opis:: The paper presents activities of the printing house founded in 1787 at the Jesuit College in Polotsk. The printing house became an academic printing house in 1812; it ceased to exist at the time of the dissolution of the Academy. The group of the most important printing house personnel, including the managing prefects and the employees directly associated with books – from the censors and the coadjutors to the printing house boys, is listed. Based on the existing inventory lists, their workshop, i.e. the printing equipment housed in all the printing house rooms, can be presented in detail, and their printing achievements, i.e. editions of the books stored in the warehouses and the academic bookshop, can be indicated.

Opis:: Oficyna wydawnicza w Braniewie funkcjonowała w latach 1589 – 1773. Jej działalność podzielić można na dwa okresy. Pierwszy to funkcjonowanie i prowadzenie jej przez kolejno sześciu typografów prywatnych: Jana Saxo, Jerzego Schönfelsa, Kacpera Weingärtnera, Piotra Freimutha, Piotra Schultza oraz Piotra Rosenbüchlera. Drugi okres to lata 1697 – 1773 kiedy oficyna zarządzana była przez Towarzystwo Jezusowe. W zbiorach Biblioteki Muzeum Warmii i Mazur w Olsztynie znajdują się 64 stare druki (w tym 68 tytułów) wydane przez ową typografię. Autorka poddała analizie 20 spośród nich. Przy opisie posłużono się kluczem chronologicznym. Wyboru dokonano dodatkowo ze względu na znaki proweniencyjne znajdujące się na woluminach. Wybrane przykłady starych druków odzwierciedlają charakter wydawniczy oficyny. Druki z kolekcji muzealnej są uzupełnieniem druków braniewskiej przechowywanych w innych bibliotekach m.in. w Bibliotece Wyższego Seminarium Duchownego Metropolii Warmińskiej „Hosianum” w Olsztynie i Bibliotece Uniwersyteckiej w Uppsali.
The publishing house in Braniewo operated in the years 1589 - 1773. Its activity can be divided into two periods. The first is that it is operated and conducted by six private typographers: Jan Saxo, Jerzy Schönfels, Kacper Weingärtner, Piotr Freimuth, Piotr Schultz and Piotr Rosenbüchler. The second period is the years 1697 - 1773, when the publishing house was managed by the Society of Jesus. The collection of the Library of the Museum of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn includes 64 old prints issued by this typography. The author analyzed 20 of them. A chronological key was used in the description. The selection was made additionally due to provenance marks on the volumes. Selected examples of old prints reflect the publishing character of the publishing house. The prints from the museum collection complement the prints from Braniewo kept in other libraries, including in the Library of the Higher Theological Seminary of the Warmia Metropolitan Area "Hosianum" in Olsztyn and the University Library in Uppsala.
