Opis:
The paper presents exploratory examinations on possibility of pre-treatment of wastewater containing gasoline and diesel fuel, that is wastewater “produced” in each car service and repair workshop and in gas station. It is a vast number of service points, which, though daily produce small amounts of wastewater but in the scale of the whole country amount of wastewater is substantial. Such wastewater is usually piped off into the sewage system. Often oily wastewater does not meet requirements set by local companies which own the municipal sewage treatment plants. Therefore, authors made have undertaken considerations on the concept of use the flotation process for pre-treatment of wastewater containing oil and gasoline, as a small wastewater treatment plant that could be installed in a separate room of garage or gas station. Example diagram is shown in Figure 5. This paper presents preliminary testing of a pilot-distinctive nature. Laboratory tests of flotation process were carried out in two independent study groups, ie. one with use of model wastewater and second with the use of real wastewater. Conducted examinations and analysis of the results allow to draw certain conclusions: 1. Wastewater from car service stations, mechanical garages and also gas stations are contaminated with oil derived compound, and although individual garage produces small amounts of wastewater, the sum of all wastewater in the scale of the whole country each day is substantial. 2. Proposed small installation for pre-treatment of oily wastewater, when implemented In the car service station or gas station will improve quality of wastewater daily inputted to sewage system. 3. The flotation process which is the first node of proposed technological installation does not treat wastewater sufficiently, but noticeably, and thus it allows to extend the life of an important node of the installation, that is sorption process. 4. Research should be continued on a small experimental plant installed in the car or gas station.

Whey is almost clear liquid which is formed as a residue after cutting cow's milk. In its composition contains about 5% of sugar - lactose, protein and 1% and 0.5% fat, as well as minerals and vitamins. Whey may be about 50% dry milk was-was a part is separated from the whey clot, which is produced cheese or casein. 1 part by volume of the resulting cheese falls nearly 10 parts of whey. Rennet in cheese production and ripening sweet whey is obtained, the production of cottage cheese whey acidic. The resulting large quantities of whey in dairy plants could be environmentally dangerous waste from the manufacture of cheese or casein. Because of the huge loads of organic compounds directly from crude whey-operation to the environment threatens to strong contamination. At the same time whey can be a valuable starting material for further processing, eg in the food industry. One possible means of disposal of whey is its use as a substrate for methane fermentation process. Thanks to this potentially dangerous and onerous for the dairy whey can be converted into valuable biogas energy. In this study analyzed the extent to which the application of ultrasound to condition the whey can improve its performance in the process of anaerobic mesophilic anaerobic digestion. Studies on the effects of ultrasound sonication on the effectiveness of the distribution of acid whey was carried out in five series of varying amounts of energy input during conditioning. After the disintegration of the whey, analyzed its susceptibility to anaerobic digestion in the mesophilic anaerobic digestion. For this purpose, respirometric measurements were performed using, as inoculum anaerobic sludge adapted to degrade whey. With the respirometric test performed simultaneous measurements of anaerobic sludge pH. Research in all series including the control series was performed in triplicate. For statistical calculations used the program Statistica 9.0. The obtained results indicate that by sonication can significantly increase the value of energy produced in the process of anaerobic digestion biogas. Despite the sonication energy inputs, increased production of biogas with high methane content makes it advisable to appropriate preparatory treatments of the substrate. The results of series 4 and 5 with the largest dose of ultrasound energy demonstrated that the amount of energy input must be selected very carefully, and the increase in the number entering the ultrasound does not translates into a linear increase in the production of methane. In the series, with shorter times of exposure to ultrasound was shorter acid phase and increase the rate of formation of biogas in comparison to a series of links.

Industrial wastewater often contain large amounts of impurities hardly decomposable and toxic, which are difficult to remove in the purification process. Even at low concentrations, they are carcinogenic and mutagenic. Mainly they are: PAHs, PCBs, polychlorinated dibenzodioxins PCDDs and dibenzofurans PCDFs, and phthalates which more and more often are present at wastewater treatment plants. Due to the inefficiency, in most cases, of standard methods of wastewater treatment in biological, physical and chemical processes Advanced Oxidation Processes – AOPs are becoming an alternative. One of the most effective methods of advanced oxidation is Fenton process, in which highly reactive hydroxyl radicals are generated, which oxidize the majority of organic compounds into simpler, biodegradable substances. The paper presents the effectiveness of the oxidation of organic pollutants in the Fenton process. In the experiments following organic were used: an aqueous dispersion of polyvinyl acetate (Winacet) and aqueous emulsion of phthalate bis (2-ethylhexyl) (DEHP). Also description of the mechanism for their removal is given. The study showed high efficiency of the oxidation process and a significant effect of examined parameters on the efficiency of the process. Winacet from aqueous dispersion was removed as a result of the oxidation of polyvinyl alcohol which is stabilizing system: polyvinyl acetate – polyvinyl alcohol, and the destabilization of the particles of polyvinyl acetate was followed by their separation in the process of co-precipitation and sedimentation. Hydrophobic DEHP in an aqueous medium is hydrolyzing with creation of hydrophilic functional groups, which give the particles of the emulsion a negative surface charge and allow them to be effectively removed in the process of FeSO4 coagulation and co-precipitation.

Celem pracy było określenie wpływu biodegradacji i wstępnej obróbki fizycznej na toksyczność osadu z oczyszczalni ścieków. Toksyczność była określona za pomocą testu wykorzystującego luminescencyjne bakterie Vibrio fischeri. Najlepszy efekt uzyskano przy zastosowaniu kombinacji wstępnej obróbki fizycznej za pomocą pola elektrostatycznego i biodegradacji za pomocą mieszanych kultur bakterii.
The purpose of the work was to determine the effect of biodegradation and initial physical treatment on toxicity of the sewage treatment sludge. Toxicity was determined by mean of the test using luminescent bacteria Vibrio fischeri. The best effect was obtained by application a combination of initial physical treatment using electrostatic fields and biodegradation using mixed cultures of bacteria.
