halal/kosher slaughter - Opis:
- Faroese people consider grindadraps (pilot whale hunting) as a cultural heritage. Despite the fact, that nowadays Faroese do not have to use this method in order to provide themselves with food needed to survive, tradition is still performed and has other functions. Outside of Faroe Islands the public opinion describes this tradition very critically, usually as a ‘barbaric slaughter’. This traditional whaling should be considered as a procedure exposing the animals to a high level of distress. In the context of the high civilizational development and material welfare, the practice of whaling appears to be an inadequate and cruel relic of the past and in the long term perspective it should become forbidden.
