Opis:
The article offers a survey of the reception of Ovid in the Wawrzyniec Korwin’s astronomical dissertation Cosmographia dans manuductionem in tabulas Ptolemaei (ed. 1496) by applying literary perspectives of such Ovid`s poems as Metamorphoses, Fasti, Epistulae ex Ponto, Amores and Heroides. The title Korwin’s take on Ovid hints at the actual and real potential of his heritage that is both a fixed, poetic base shared by Korwin since his study at the Cracow Academy as well as a body of references constantly being reinterpreted in response to astronomical and geographical challenges of the work of the Polish writer. The reader is given an insight into the processes shaping Korwin’s borrowings from Ovid and the importance of Cosmographia to the Polish Renaissance culture.

Opis:
The Arabic world is proud of its past and grandeur of former times dating to the pre-islam period and the era of the rise of Islam. The article is an attempt to describe the theme of glory in the Arab literature of the renaissance concerning this region from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. During this time a new Arabic literature developed and it included the so-called poetry of traditional current and drama as an innovatory literary form called neoclassicism, which had not previously existed. Both genres referred to the brilliant past of Arabia and the Muslim civilization, encouraging Arabs to embrace its revival. These genres were basing on the motif of majd – ‘glory’, ‘praise’, ‘fame’. The poetry included, first of all, panegyrics and poems expressing a longing for previous glory while neoclassic dramatists presented the same theme with examples of ancient communities, tribal legends and the history of the Arabic-Muslim Caliphate. The article aims to show the literary pictures of Arabic grandeur and glory outlined by the renaissance writers. With reference to the changes in literature, the paper argues that since the 1950s, poetry and drama writers have rejected the concept of a glorious past and criticized the dreadful and inglorious moments in the history of Arab regions.

The present paper focuses on friendship’s role in life and poetry of Klemens Janicki (1516–1543). Unfortunately there is a noticeable lack of sources and testimonies. The analysis of poetical works written by Janicki is only partially useful. In the epoch of the Renaissance very often the statements on friendship were exaggerated. Despite of these circumstances it is possible to analyze the poetical techniques used in texts about friends and friendship. The paper ends with an attempt to describe the nature of Ianicius’ relationships with his friends.

Opis:
The tradition that Naim created is alive and inspirational even among the lives of the present society. More than a writer, Naim is the greatest poet of our National Renaissance, is a patriot, think-tank and famous activist of education and Albanian culture. His most special merit in this literary creativity stands in the fact that he raised the literature for children at a higher artistic level, strongly affecting the other Renaissance figures. Which are the virtues that Naim Frashëri wants to develop among the children? As a writer and professor, Naim aimed to activate through his creativities the intellectual and educational thought and the spiritual moral emancipation of the children. In his literary creativity, Naim Frashëri appears not only as a famous writer and poet, but as a great professor at the same time, publishing literary and pedagogical works. The book Reader for boys with short stories distinguished him as a talented prose writer for children, whereas the poetic art in the collection Poetry for the first grades established him as the founder of the poetry for children, where Naim appears as an educator and serves as a propagandist of the noble virtues of love for work, of honour, faith, justice, truth, humanism, will for learning and knowledge, love for one’s country. In the general view of this literature, as a poet and writer through different genres and types, Naim aims to give advices, to convey wisdom and philosophy but also to emanate elements of culture and good manners, behaviour and moral. Naim, likewise his predecessors: Naum Veqilharxhi and Kostandin Kristoforidhi, dedicated himself to the literature for children to deeply affect the conscience and moral of the children. In this point of view there is another reason why Naim dedicated himself to the literature for children: he was convinced that the boundaries of the linguistic culture of the nation are laid down at school and in childhood. “Little boys and maids need to learn their language, to read it correctly and write it good”. Thus, the poetry and prose for children subdue to his aim; the artistic and patriotic education of children. Therefore, for this contribution that he brought, Naim Frashëri deserved being named as the founder of Albanian literature for children and as its main representative during the National Renaissance.

The analysis of the attitude of the critics towards the poetry of the Grands Rhétoriqueurs allows us to observe the changes that have occurred within literary history. Long despised and practically excluded from the framework of important poets, the Rhétoriqueurs finally won over the benevolence of researchers and in the second half of the 20th century, they found their place in the history of French literature. It was a noticeable change that spurred new research into previously forgotten fields of literature.

Opis:
The article is devoted to the Latin poem De spledidissimo Christi Jesu triumpho carmen by Martin Kromer who was one of the biggest writers of the Polish Renaissance. A theme of the work is time when Jesus Christ became alive again three days after his death. The theme are also miraculous events which took place after his Resurrection. The poet is supplementing records of the Gospel, introducing into his poem the action which isn’t complicated. He is talking about guards who stood by the grave. He is also describing the reaction of the nature which expressed its sadness because of the death of the Saviour. In the context of the report on the Resurrection, the poet is referring to the figures of ancient world belonging both to mythology, as well to history. In his artistic work Kromer isn’t presenting typical Apocrypha, he proposes a different perspective, having only character of the Apocrypha.

Edycje hiszpańskie dziełka Dantyszka Hymni aliquot ecclesiastici (Kraków 1548), opublikowane wiele lat po śmierci autora staraniem jego zięcia Diego Graciána de Alderete, w istocie nie są przedrukiem edycji krakowskiej, lecz kompilacją trzech druków: Hymni aliquot ecclesiastici (1548), Dantyszkowego poematu De nostrorum temporum calamitatibus (1530) oraz Genethliacon dla Dantyszka pióra Caspara Ursinusa (1522). Gracián, uzupełniając je przedmową o charakterze panegirycznym oraz znacząco ingerując w tekst poematu Ursinusa i w teksty wstępne, zaczerpnięte z pierwotnych edycji, konstruuje z nich pomnik wybitnych dokonań oraz świadectwo nieskazitelnej moralności teścia.
The Spanish editions of Dantiscus’ minor work Hymni aliquot ecclesiastici (Cracow, 1548), submitted for publication many years after the author’s death by his son-in-law Diego Gracián de Alderete, in fact, are not a reprint of the Cracow edition but a compilation of three prints: Hymni aliquot ecclesiastici (1548), Dantiscus’ poem De nostrorum temporum calamitatibus (1530), and the Genethliacon for Dantiscus penned by Caspar Ursinus (1522). Gracián uses them to build a monument to his father-in-law’s outstanding achievements and a testimony to his impeccable morals, supplementing them with a panegyrical preface and making significant changes to the poem by Ursinus and to introductory texts taken from the original editions.

Opis:
This article argues that, strictly speaking, from its inception with the ancient Greeks and for all time, philosophy and science are identical and consist in an essential relationship between a specific type of understanding of the human person as possessed of an intellectual soul capable of being habituated and a psychologically-independent composite whole, or organization. It maintains, further, that absence of either one of the extremes of this essential relationship cannot be philosophy/science and, if mistaken for such and applied to the workings of cultural institutions, will generate anarchy within human culture and make leadership excellence impossible to achieve. Finally, it argues that only a return to this “common sense” understanding of philosophy can generate the leadership excellence that can save the West from its current state of cultural and civilizational anarchy.

Opis:
Since most pressing today on a global scale is to be able to unite religion, philosophy, and science into parts of a coherent civilizational whole, and since the ability to unite a multitude into parts of a coherent whole essentially requires understanding the natures of the things and the way they can or cannot be essentially related, this paper chiefly considers precisely why the modern world has been unable to effect this union. In so doing, it argues that the chief cause of this inability to unite these cultural natures has been because the contemporary world, and the West especially, has lost its understanding of philosophy and science and has intentionally divorced from essential connection to wisdom. Finally, it proposes a common sense way properly to understand these natures, reunite them to wisdom, and revive Western and global civilization.
