    How to translate Białoszewski? Remarks on selected Italian, French and Russian translations – The article aims at analysing the translation of Miron Białoszewski’s poetry through the comparison of the Italian, French and Russian versions of some of his works. Before dealing with this matter, some brief references are made to the author’s biographical profile and poetics – which are an indispensable premise to study his poems. Then the reception of Białoszewski as a poet in Italy, France and Russia is shortly considered.

    Opis:
    The subject of the study focuses on the poetry of the Polish-French literature historian Zygmunt Lubicz-Zaleski (1882–1967). The reason for my research was the Polish edition (2016) of his poetic cycle Relikwiarz buchenwaldzki (Reliquary of Buchenwald) which was created in the Nazi concentration camp Buchenwald (Germany) between 1943–1945 and until now was not widely known among the readers in Poland. Lubicz-Zaleski’s concentration camp poetry is presented within the context of looking at the nuances that the Polish and German prisoners’ of war collection of poetry shared about their ordeal while in Buchenwald. I also point out the domination of the German former communist prisoners in access to publishing within the German Democratic Republic after 1945 and because of this the lack of availability of French and Polish publications in East Germany. The main aim of the study was looking at Lubicz-Zaleski’s war poetry and its reception in a broader historical-political context.

    Opis:
    Marian Pankowski’s (1919–2011) literary output is rich in all literary genres. Nevertheless, relatively little has been written on his poetry, which is the subject of this study. Shaped by his personal experience, both as a human being and as a reader, Pankowski’s poems reflect the clash he is facing everyday trying to master French and become a part of the French-speaking world. In his lyrical, carefully thought out form (alliterations, metaphors, similes), which is an explicit reference to the avant-garde and to a Polish group of experimental poets “Skamander”, there is no place for talkativeness present in prose. The analysis of some pieces of Pankowski’s less known or even unknown poetry presented in this study proposes an alternative way of reading his literary texts. The authoress points out some poetic images build upon sensuous, yet controlled, perception of the world, based mainly on the sense of hearing and sight. The sense of touch, however, is completely suppressed, as if suggested by intensifying the sense of sight. For the poet, his own corporality is a taboo. Therefore, he seems to be transposing it into the represented word. Pankowski’s poetry, unjustly associated only with his early works, is worth getting acquainted with. It is interesting, instructing and intriguing with its plasticity and language.

    It is a comparative analysis of three French translations of Chopin’s Piano: by Joseph Perard (1937), Feliks Konopka (1957) and Krzysztof Jeżewski (1983). The linguistic choices made by the translators make it possible to point to those parts of the text of the poem by Norwid that can hardly be translated – sometimes due to the very essence of the original language and of the language of the translation. The author also offers his own version of the translation of Norwid’s work.
