Opis:
The article is intended to demonstrate selected motifs and themes of Emily Dickinson’s work which is a separate phenomenon in the poetry of the second half of nineteenth century. The poet’s work referring to timeless sense of human existence became a challenge for the Polish poet - Ludmiła Marjańska - who had ventured to translate it and was carrying on with the task throughout the years. Ludmiła Marjańska and Emily Dickinson were connected through richness of their inner lives. Each of the poets is an extraordinary individuality. Their works prove enormous joy of life and fondness of nature. They both deal with existential matters. Emily Dickinson considered the question of the way of existence - not only her own but of each individual - and her place in the world. She expressed it in her works. This paper is a brief introduction to Emily Dickinson and Ludmiła Marjańska and an analysis of selected poems by Dickinson with a bird motif, encumbered with diversified functions. This bird is a sign of joy, hope, reflection, but it also has a self-creative function. Further part of this paper presents some oneiric space as a poetic method employed in Emily Dickinson’s poems. Sleep in the poet’s works is multifaceted. The sleep motif combines the real and eternal worlds. Poetic translations by Ludmiła Marjańska evoke the spirit of the original. The poet believed that a good translation requires adequate preparation and an intuitive approach. In her translations of Emily Dickinson’s poems, the poet attempts to reflect the sound of a given piece of work in Polish. A poem read in an original language version sounds differently, and no translation is capable of exactly reflecting its content in a foreign language, but it may bring it closer.

Opis:
In this article the author explores the Ukrainian motifs in Eugeniusz Tkaczyszyn-Dycki’s poetry, which appear from the first volume to the last, so they are durable. At the beginning the research examines Dycki’s interest in the Baroque, because in this period Ruthenian (Ukrainian) motifs began to appear. The paper presents the theses on Eastern themes by Dycki, which were described by other researchers, to which the author referred and which he creatively developed. The article has stated that the theory of post-colonialism does not fully match the Polish-Ukrainian realities. In Dycki’s works we notice an attempt to build an idyll in Polish-Ukrainian relations, and at the same time its disintegration was shown. The author of the article has found an analogy for this attitude of alienation and disinheritance in the interpretation of the life and work of Jean Genet, which was presented by Jean-Paul Sartre in his book „Saint Genet, Actor and Martyr”. The research has reconstructed family relations with his father and mother in Dycki’s poetry, and also examined the function of Ukrainian words appearing in his poems. First of all, his relationship with his mother, indicating an emotional dependence, attracts attention.

Opis:
The article presents the evolution of the theme of Armia Krajowa (Home Army) and the Warsaw Uprising, in Ficowski’s poetry. The theme, engaged by the poet in the late 1940s (Ołowiani żołnierze, 1948), was quickly abandoned as incompatible with the imaginary, magical direction in the development of young Ficowski’s poetry. Neither was the theme fostered by the general political background of the “dead season” of Communist Poland, by censorship, and by Ficowski’s fear of settling for the post-Romantic stereotype and patriotic myth-making. The theme returned in the 1970s (Gryps, 1979; Errata, 1981), which was related to Ficowski’s decision to liberate himself from self-censorship, and his readiness to express the once repressed content in his own, mature poetic idiom. The present study presents two aspects of historical narration in the Home-Army poems from the 1970s: the fabulous quality, which positions history in Ficowski’s private topics and intimate memory, and the scientific, naturalistic quality, which relates history to physical and cosmic categories. Both aspects redeem the poetry from the narrow specificity of Polish national myth, and make it possible to reconcile individual truth of the experience of death and suffering with the discourse of concepts and historiosophy, which also touches upon the cosmic order.

Opis:
The article is an attempt of the semantic interpretation of the poem of Inna Lisnianska “Развалилось то, что долго длилось…”. It concerns the role of the Jewish Question in identity formation of the lyrical subject. I was preceded by a rough outline of the Jewish issue in Russian literature. The interpretation demonstrates that the drama of the tumble indicated in the title is opposed by the “elf” of the lyrical subject. That self was formed by the unity of blood, the unity of both cultures and both religions. It was formed by her cry — with all the blood (“всей своей кровью”), where Christian and Jewish elements merge.
