    Opis:
    Transcription and translation: parallel experiences in music and poetry – Referring to some personal experiences and some statements by Norman Davies, Umberto Eco and Fabio Scotto, the author tries to find analogies between translating poetry and transcribing music. Before and behind the performer’s work, the translator and the transcriber deal with important issues such as timbre and tone, which are not less important than parameters easier to define and more debated (rhythm, phonics). The translator of poetry should “think for poetry”, paraphrasing the title of Leibowitz’s book about transcription Thinking for orchestra.

    In its title, this article indicates two purposes. The first is to attempt to give a precise description of the category of the concept album, whose specificity (also in the opinion of foreign researchers) is usually described in a blurred, intuitive and rather imprecise way. This attempt is made through reference to the literary side of this kind of album. Based on these reflections, the author also attempts to create a typology of concept albums, which constitutes a fluent transition to the second purpose of the article, namely to propose (in terms of this field of knowledge, which we call linguistics of text and discourse) a method for analysing the coherence mechanisms seen in lyrics of this sort of album. Although it is not a theory in the strict sense, the author’s intention was to lend it a practical usability: it is an operation whose purpose is to support the interpretation of concept albums.

    Autor przedstawia obszerną recenzję książki Kingi Fink Muzyka w życiu i twórczości Kornel Ujejskiego, Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, Rzeszów 2018). Kornel Ujejski (1823-1897), zwany „ostatnim wielkim poetą romantyzmu”, jest twórcą nieco zapomnianym. Analizowana monografia składa się ztrzech części, w nich autorka zawarła: analizę tła muzycznego, na którym poeta tworzył, poezję Ujejskiego inspirowaną muzyką oraz historię wierszy, dla których powstawała muzyka. Największą wartością rozprawy jest nie tylko ukazanie źródeł i skutków muzycznych inspiracji, ale także dostrzeżenie w twórczości Kornela Ujejskiego motywów i tematów ważnych dla twórców i czytelników kolejnych epok.
    Kazimierz Maciąg presents an extensive review of the book by Kinga Fink Muzyka w życiu i twórczości Kornel Ujejskiego [„Music in the life and workof Kornel Ujejski”], Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, Rzeszów 2018). Kornel Ujejski (1823–1897), known as the “last great poet of Romanticism”, is a poet who is somewhat forgotten. The analyzed monograph consists of three parts, in which the author presents: the analysis of the musical background on which the poet created, Ujejski’s poetry inspired by music and the history of poems for which music was created. The greatest value of the dissertation is not only to show only the sources and effects of musical inspirations, but also to see in the work of Kornel Ujejski motifs and themes that were and are important for the creators and readers of subsequent eras.

    „Doświadczenie podmiotu” i „muzyczna melancholia” to dwa najważniejsze aspekty wczesnej twórczości Witolda Wirpszy. Powstałe w 1945 r. wiersze – Rytm i Koncert, należy interpretować w kontekście innego tekstu z tomiku Mały gatunek – Wierszopisarstwo. Poeta szuka odpowiednich środków, by wyrazić swoje uczucia. Dwa najważniejsze elementy dzieła muzycznego, czyli rytm i melodia, są dla Wirpszy paradygmatem. Traktuje je w sposób nowatorski, z ich pomocą podmiot uzewnętrznia się. Próba opisu doświadczeń pozwala osobie mówiącej uwolnić się od strachu. Podmiot odnajduje wewnętrzną równowagę, ale traumatyczne doświadczenia sprawiają, że pozostaje mu muzyczna melancholia.
    "Experience of the subject" and "musical melancholy" are the two most important aspects of Witold Wirpsza's early creativity. Poems from 1945 – Rytm and Koncert, should be interpreted in the context of another poem from the volume Mały gatunek – Wierszopisarstwo, in which the poet searches for suitable means to express his emotions. The most important elements of musical work - rhythm and melody - are a paradigm for Wirpsza. He treats them in an innovative way - an individual can externalize their emotions with their help. An attempt to describe feelings allows an indivudual to free themself from fear. The individual finds internal balance, but traumatic experiences mean that melancholy music remains.
