Opis:
Phenological traits, yield, and fruit characteristics of 14 plum cultivars of late maturation period were studied in the region of Belgrade in the five-year period (2013–2017). The control cultivar for comparison was ‘Stanley’. The average time of flowering was in the first half of April, and of fruit maturation in the second half of August and the beginning of September. Yield per tree was lowest in the cultivar ‘Pozna Plava’ (10.2 kg) and highest in the cultivar ‘Topking’ (23.6 kg). Compared to the control, significantly lower yield was achieved in three cultivars: ‘Pozna Plava’, ‘Vengerka Pozdnyaya’, and ‘Narach’. Fruit weight ranged from 26.1 g in the cultivar ‘Elena’ to 57.0 g in the cultivar ‘Empress’. Compared to the control, it was significantly higher in three cultivars (‘Empress’, ‘Vengerka Pozdnyaya’, and ‘Tophit’). All studied cultivars had high soluble solids content, ranging from 17.1% to 21.6%. The best rated cultivar for fruit appearance was ‘Empress’, while cultivars ‘Nada’ and ‘Pozna Plava’ were best scored for taste.

Opis:
The Asian pear tree (Nashi), originated in China and Japan, where it is commonly grown. In Europe, in Poland in particular, it remains almost unknown, despite the fact that its cultivation has been proven to be possible there. The aim of the experiment – carried out between 2008 and 2015 at the Fruit Experimental Station Samotwór, next to Wrocław – was to evaluate the growth intensity and yielding of several Asian pear tree cultivars: ‘Kosui’, ‘Shinseiki’, ‘Nijisseiki’, ‘Chojuro’, ‘Hosui’, and ‘Shu Li’; as well as the quality and biological value of their fruits. ‘Conference’, which is widespread in Europe, was chosen as the control variety. ‘Conference’, ‘Shu Li’, and ‘Hosui’ showed highest growth intensity, whereas the trees of ‘Shinseiki’ were the smallest. In terms of yields over the period of eight years following the planting, ‘Chojuro’ and ‘Shinseiki’ performed best, while the least fruits were obtained from the ‘Nijisseiki’ cultivar. Significantly heaviest and biggest fruits were collected from the Chinese ‘Shu Li’ cultivar. In 2012, Nashi fruits had similar carotenoid, calcium, and magnesium contents as the fruits of ‘Conference’.

Opis:
Cherries are known as health friendly fruits due to their abundant phytochemical compositions. This study was conducted to determine phytochemical and pomological fruit properties of different cherry species including mahaleb (Prunus mahaleb L.), wild sweet cherry (Prunus avium L.), wild sour cherry (Prunus cerasus L.), two sweet cherries (‘Napoleon’ and ‘Starks Gold’) and one sour cherry (‘Kütahya’) cultivars. For this aim, together with various pomological traits, total phenolics and anthocyanin contents, antioxidant capacity, organic acids, sugars, were analyzed in fruits of relevant genotypes. Results of all examined traits significantly varied between genotypes. Mahaleb showed the highest TSS (30.17%), fructose (8.71 μg/g) and glucose (20.74 μg/g) contents. Wild sour cherry gave the highest antioxidant capacity (13.25 mmol TE/ kg total weight), anthocyanin (351.0 mg Pg-3-glk/kg total weight), citric acid (0.56 μg/g) and malic acid (2.96 μg/g) contents. As a rootstock, mahaleb was found to be superior in some of the traits when compared to wild sweet cherry. Significant correlations were observed between various traits. Additionally, principal component analysis (PCA) revealed different relationships among the traits and evaluated genotypes.
