Opis:
The study was carried out in 2005–2007. The aim of the experiment was to estimate the quality and mineral compound content in sweet pepper fruits. The experimental material consisted of seven F1 hybrids grown in the open field: ISI 56511 F1, ISI 56503 F1, Axel F1, Akron F1, Roei F1, Elfo F1 and Polonez F1 (control cultivar). The fruits were harvested many times. They were collected when green and fully grown. After the harvest, the fruit quality including its mean weight, length, diameter, pericarp weight and pericarp thickness, was evaluated. In 2006-2007, the content of macro– and microelements, such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc and nitrates was determined in the dry weight of the yield. The results were statistically evaluated by the analysis of variance. Significance of the differences was tested by Tukey’s test at p = 0.05. The biometrical traits of fruits were characteristic for each cultivar. The highest content of dry weight was found for cultivar ISI 56511 F1 (11.2% higher than the mean amount determined for all of the cultivars and 39.8% higher than the lowest dry matter content assessed in fruits of cultivar Roei F1). The sweet pepper cultivars tested in the experiment differed significantly in the content of macro- and microelements. The highest content of nitrogen was determined in fruits of cultivar Polonez F1. Fruits produced by cultivars Elfo F1, ISI 56503 F1 and Roei F1 in comparison with the other cultivars were characterized by a significantly higher content of iron. The highest content of nitrates was assessed in cultivar ISI 56503 F1 fruit.
W latach 2005–2007 badano jakość owoców papryki i zawartość makro- i mikroskładników. Badaniom (uprawa polowa) poddano następujące odmiany papryki: ISI 56511 F1, ISI 56503 F1, Axel F1, Akron F1, Roei F1, Elfo F1 i Polonez F1 (odmiana kontrolna). W latach 2006-2007 w suchej masie plonu oznaczono zawartość: makro– i mikroskładników – azotu ogólnego, fosforu, potasu, sodu, wapnia, magnezu, żelaza, cynku oraz azotanów. Wyniki opracowano statystycznie testem Tuckeya, wyliczając półprzedziały ufności na poziomie istotności α = 0,05. Badane cechy biometryczne owoców były charakterystyczne dla poszczególnych odmian papryki. Istotnie najwięcej suchej masy zawierały owoce odmiany ISI 56511 F1 – o 11,2% więcej od średniej zawartości w owocach wszystkich badanych odmian i o 39,8% więcej w porównaniu z najmniejszą jej zawartością, oznaczoną w owocach odmiany Roei F1. Badane odmiany papryki różniły się istotnie zawartością makro– i mikroskładników. Najwięcej azotu ogólnego i potasu zawierały owoce odmiany Polonez F1. W owocach odmian Elfo F1, ISI 56503 F1 i Roei F1 oznaczono – w porównaniu z pozostałymi badanymi odmianami – istotnie większą zawartość żelaza. Istotnie najwięcej azotanów zawierały owoce odmiany ISI 56503 F1.

Opis:
Our objective was to determine the content of macro- and micronutrients, toxic heavy metals as well as total phenols in 10 broccoli (Brassica oleracea var. italica) cultivars. The experiment was designed at the Poznań University of Life Sciences, Poland, and completed during two plant growing seasons. Broccoli seedlings were planted in a field in early July and the plants were harvested between September and October. The content of general forms of nitrogen was measured by distillation with the Kjeldahl method. The content of potassium, calcium and sodium was assessed by flame photometry, and the content of magnesium, cadmium, lead, nickel, copper, zinc, manganese and iron was determined by flame atomic absorption spectroscopy (FAAS). The content of heavy metals, macronutrients and sodium in the broccoli heads depended on a cultivar. Having analyzed the levels of macronutrients in ten broccoli cultivars, it was concluded that cv. Agassi and Tradition had the highest content of nitrogen and phosphorus. A very high amount of phosphorus was also found in cv. Beaumont. The highest concentrations of calcium and potassium were found in cv. Monte Carlo. The cultivars Agassi, Beaumont, Tiburon and Tradition were characterized by the highest content of magnesium. The highest content of sodium occurred in the cultivars Beaumont and Monopoly. With respect to micronutrients, the highest content of iron, copper, zinc and manganese was revealed in cv. Agassi. The highest content of nickel was determined in the cultivars Beaumont and Monte Carlo. In addition, the cultivar Monte Carlo was characterized by the highest content of lead, and Beaumont had the highest content of cadmium. However, the maximum permissible levels of cadmium and lead were not exceeded in the heads of the ten broccoli cultivars. In both years of the study, the highest content of phenols was found in cv. Steel and the lowest one appeared in cv. Agassi.

Opis:
The research objective was to determine and compare dry matter, crude protein, mineral elements (total), dietary fiber, easily hydrolysable sugars, vitamin C, and minerals (K, Na, Mg, Cu) as well as the content of epicatechin and phenolic acids (homovanillic, chlorogenic, caffeic, coumaric, and ferulic) in the flesh and peel of ‘Šampion’ cv. apples grafted on 4 different rootstocks types: M.26, P2, M.9, and P22 in 2014–2015. The apples from trees grafted on the P22 rootstock had the highest content of dry matter, crude protein, fiber, easily hydrolysable sugars, and vitamin C. The highest mineral compound concentration was exhibited by apples from trees growing on rootstocks P22, P2, and M.9. The highest concentration of phenolic acids was determined in the peel of fruits from trees growing on P22 and M.9. The observations confirm that rootstocks characterized by the lowest growth rate (P22, M.9) ensure the highest accumulation of nutrients in ‘Šampion’ fruits.

Opis:
To tolerate harsh climatic conditions, olive tree Chetoui has developed some anatomic, physiologic and biochemical mechanisms. The aim of this study was to determine the indicators of stress in leaves, stems and roots growing under various climatic conditions. To protect against stress conditions this cultivar increased cuticle thickness, protective structures and building parenchyma tissues of leaves, woods and roots from the North to the South. The volatile compounds, extracted from northern and southern Chetoui leaves and roots, were analyzed by GC-FID and GC-MS. Great changes in volatiles were illustrated in the studied organs, by enrichment in phenolics and fatty acids for leaves and in hydrocarbons for roots of southern Chetoui. Also, a reduction in terpenes, alcohols and carbonylic compounds was noted in both southern samples. Moreover, minerals of all organs of Chetoui, varied in content and allocation, but their levels are the highest in leaves. The changes in volatiles might be affected by changes in the mineral elements uptake or accumulation under environment stress. A significant correlation was noted between phenolic compounds and sodium, nitrogen, and calcium contents. However, terpenoids was highly correlated with phosphorus content for all organs and studied areas. The detection of new volatiles, anatomical and mineral changes seem to be efficient indicators of adaptation of Chetoui to environment stress conditions.
