    Opis:
    This article concerns the way of philosophizing by Karol Wojtyła; a special emphasis is put on the relation between philosophical anthropology and ethics in his thought. The Polish thinker was active in both of them and it seems initially that ethics was his main area of expertise. However, a close examination of select works of Wojtyła confirms that philosophical anthropology was his main field. He was interested in how the person is revealed in his acts, including moral acts. Thus, the person as such remains at the center of attention and reflection of the thinker and his involvement in ethics was to demonstrate how that person matures on the dynamic level. Karol Wojtyła is pre-eminently a philosopher of the human person.

    The article considers the problem of relations between freedom, intellect and will in the context of Christian philosophy, and especially in the sphere of Karol Wojtyła's thought. The author comes to the following conclusions. Complete freedom is the so-called 'freedom to', that is freedom to do good for other people. Good acts are acts consistent with the conscience of the acting person as well as with rational premises. 'Freedom to' is different from 'freedom from' that consists in gaining independence from 'pressures of evil' (both outer and inner) that threaten man. In this way the author proclaims himself in favour of the intellectualist solution of the opposition will − intellect, that is of the Thomist solution, and against the standpoint of Duns Scotus (voluntarism).

    While the catholic intellectual tradition upholds the uniqueness of humans, much contemporary scientific research has come to the opposing conclusion that humans are not significantly different from other animals. to engage in robust dialogue around the question of human uniqueness, we utilize Aquinas’s model of disputatio to focus on an attribute of human beings that is unexplored in the literature – namely, the human capacity to garden – and address five scientific and philosophical objections to our position that the capacity to garden makes humans distinct. engaging with various branches of science, we demonstrate that human capacities and modes of gardening are not only incrementally different, but also fundamentally different in kind, from those of nonhuman creatures. Philosophically, we utilize the power-object model of division and Aristotle’s categorization of knowledge to express the difference in kind between human beings and other animals. these responses allow us to set aside each major objection.

    Celem referatu było przedstawienie etyki cnót, jako odradzającego się paradygmatu w filozofii moralnej. Zaprezentowana została w nim historia pojmowania cnoty ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem tradycji klasycznej, czyli arystotelesowsko-tomistycznej. Opis klasycznej etyki zawiera m.in. definicję cnoty i klasyfikację cnót. Etyka została przedstawiona w kontekście antropologii filozoficznej. Autor referatu odwołując się do koncepcji paradygmatów w badaniach moralnych Alasdaira MacIntyre’a dokonał konfrontacji współczesnej etyki cnót z dominującymi współcześnie nurtami badań moralnych oraz wyjaśnił niewspółmierność różnych paradygmatów etycznych. Podjęta została próba wykazania, że etyka cnót, jako odradzający się paradygmat filozofii moralnej, jest w stanie najpełniej i najadekwatniej wyjaśnić i opisać fenomen działań ludzkich o charakterze moralnym.
    The aim of this article was to present virtue ethics as a reviving paradigm of moral philosophy. The article presents how virtue was understood in different periods, special attention is paid to classical tradition (Aristotle, Thomas Aquinas). In the description of classical ethics there are, among others, the definition of virtue and the classification of virtues. Ethics is presented in the context of philosophical anthropology. The author refers to the concept of paradigms in Alasdair MacIntyre’s research about morality and compares modern virtue ethics to the most popular trends in moral research. He also explains difficulties in comparing different ethical paradigms. The author is trying to prove that virtue ethics as a reviving paradigm in moral philosophy is the most useful in describing human acting connected with morality.
