Opis:
The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of personality traits on burnout among staff at the Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The present study is applied and survey-descriptive from aspect of aim and data collection, respectively. The statistical population of the study was all employees of the Central Bank, of which 348 persons were selected by simple random sampling method. Research tools were NEO questionnaire of personality traits, Maslach and Jackson Burnout Inventory (1981). Cronbach's alpha to evaluate the reliability of questionnaires was obtained 0.734 and 0.716, respectively. Data collected were analyzed using structural equation modeling software in Lisrel environment and regression and Pearson's correlation tests in SPSS software. The findings of the study show that there is a significant relationship between five dimensions of personality traits (neuroticism, extraversion, Experience-taking, consistency and loyalty) with burnout. The results showed that people with the neuroticism personality trait and more consistency have been more prone to job burnout. Other results also showed that the neuroticism, extraversion, consistency and loyalty personality traits are good predictors of job burnout variable.

The article discusses similarities and differences in the personality development of men and women in their life-span. The analyses of the developmental psychology research show that boys and girls develop their own personality from the early years of their life, thus adapting themselves to the gender stereotypes. The article also contains a survey of meta-analyses concerning the personality traits of men and women, conducted in different countries from 1958 to 2001 (Maccoby, Jacklin, 1974, Hall, 1984, Feingold, 1994, Costa, Terraciano, McCrae, 2001). The metaanalyses show a coherent image of gender differences in personality traits concerning greater tender-mindedness in women and greater assertiveness in men. At the same time, they indicate temporal changes and trends connected with a tendency for differences to disappear. They also emphasize cultural distinctness.

Background: The aim of the study is to clarify the beliefs and numerous doubts about the possible identification of personality in handwriting. The purpose of the described studies was to show an association between personality traits and handwriting features. The author aimed to verify whether or not there are any specific characteristics of writing in relation to personality traits. | Method: Two different studies have been described. A different number of subjects participated in the investigations and different techniques for personality assessment were used; however, the same set of handwriting features was analyzed in each study. In the first study the NEO-FFI (n=260) was used, while the EPQ-R (n=180) was used in the second study. The graphic characteristics of the handwriting samples were examined by forensic experts. | Results: The correlations between the personality traits and handwriting features were counted. The results showed that there were few significant correlations between handwriting parameters and personality traits, as measured by the NEO-FFI and EPQ-R. | Conclusions: No writing characteristics were specific to personality traits. There is no evidence for assessment of personality on the base of handwriting.

Introduction. Marijuana is one of the most widely used psychoactive substance. There is evidence of genetic predisposition for addiction. Objective. The aim of the study is to evaluate personality traits measured by the NEO Five-Factor Inventory and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, combined with analysis of Tag1B rs1079597 and Tag1D rs1800498 located in the DRD2 gene. Materials and method. The study group consisted of 214 rural cannabinoid users and 301 controls. The same psychometric test and real-time PCR genotyping were performed in both studied groups. Results. The values of Anxiety state, Anxiety trait, NEO FFI: Neuroticism and Openness in the rural cannabis using group were significantly higher than in the control group. On the other hand, lower values were observed among rural people using cannabis compared to the control group for NEO FFI: Extraversion, Agreeability and Conscientiousness. In the Anxiety trait subscale, a 2% association with the polymorphism DRD2 Tag1B rs1079597 was detected in subjects using cannabis. However, for the DRD2 Tag1D rs1800498, there was no effect on the differences in personality traits between rural cannabis users and the control group. Conclusions. The study shows differences in personality traits between the cannabis using group and controls. Interaction between genetic factors and personality traits was also detected. The association showing the combination of psychological characteristics and genetic variants can bring us closer to the overall picture of the issue of marijuana addiction.

The aim of the study: The study aimed to determine whether persons suffering from obesity may be characterised by specific personality traits which promote the development of excess body weight. Additionally, the aim involved finding whether persons suffering from morbid obesity differed from healthy individuals and somatic patients as regards selected personality traits. Material and methods: The study enrolled 34 patients with the diagnosis of morbid obesity in the process of qualification for surgical treatment of obesity. The patients’ BMI ranged from 35 to 54 kg/m2. Study participants completed NEO-FFI personality inventory (Costa, McCare; 1998) and the authors’ questionnaire designed to collect demographic data and anthropometric measurements. R esults: The study showed that patients with morbid obesity significantly differed from healthy individuals and somatic patients as regards the analysed measurements of the Big Five. C onclusions: The traits which were significantly distinctive in morbidly obese patients included lowered conscientiousness and increased neuroticism. The results indicate that the above pattern of personality traits may promote the development of excessive body weight.

The purpose of this paper is to present a new model of social inhibition (a) conceptualised as a dual structured construct including shyness and modesty, and (b) showing the complexity and diversity of these two social inhibition forms across various domains of psychosocial functioning (i.e., self-image, cognitive, emotional, and behavioural). Locating these two forms of social inhibition within the space of the Circumplex of Personality Metatraits enabled us to identify conceptually adjacent constructs to social inhibition and put the latter into a broad personality context. Through supplementary meta-analyses of the relations of shyness and modesty with the Big Five personality traits, we confront our theoretical proposition with existing empirical findings. Our paper implies that social inhibition might be successfully treated as a psychosocial disposition with two related and shared core elements, but distinct and differentially targeted forms—more neurotic and dysfunctional shyness and more agreeable and adaptive modesty.

Opis:
The article is an introduction to the volume devoted to personality traits and their measurement. It consists of two parts. The first part presents two research traditions that use the taxonomy of five personality traits: the lexical tradition (using the term “Big Five”) and the psychometric tradition (using the term “Five-Factor Model of Personality”). Similarities and differences between these traditions are outlined and the basic elements of other models that have appeared in recent studies – such as the Big Six or the Big Two – are introduced in it. The second part of the paper presents selected issues of measurement, discussed in detail in several texts included in the current issue of Annals of Psychology. Special attention is drawn to differences between various questionnaires in the operationalization of the five traits as well as to the growing popularity of short scales for measuring personality traits. The paper also outlines problems involved in the measurement of personality traits and the psychometric instruments used.

The aim of this study was evaluation of personality traits’ differences between adolescents with diabetes (type 1) and their healthy peers. 100 diabetics (age 16–22,17) and 103 healthy adolescents were assessed. They completed Cattell’s the 16 Personality Questionnaire. The diabetics are significantly different from their healthy peers in a factor H (resistance-lack of resistance) and factors of the second degree – introversion–extraversion and worry–integration. Girls with diabetes are different from healthy girls in a factor C (emotionally stability–neurosis). The diabetics are less resistant to stress, have bigger difficulty in making social contacts, are more shy and anxiously. The girls with diabetes are more neurotic than the healthy girls.

The article presents the Polish adaptation of Goldberg’s IPIP-BFM-50 questionnaire for measuring the five personality traits in the lexical tradition (Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Emotional Stability, and Intellect). The adaptation procedure was carried out as a series of eight studies. Analyses were performed on a total of N = 7015 people aged from 10 to 83 (their mean age was 29 years). Reliability was assessed using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient. Factorial validity was verified in confirmatory factor analysis. In multigroup confirmatory factor analysis, measurement invariance between various research situations was verified. External validity was assessed by comparing the scores obtained using the IPIP-BFM-50 with NEO-FFI and NEO-PI-R scores. The results support the conclusion that the IPIP-BFM-50 is a measure with satisfactory psychometric properties, fit for use in scientific research.

Today’s increasing hurriedness in our way of life along with technology advances demand from businesses to react always in a faster mode, while maintaining or, better yet, improving the quality of their products and services. Towards that objective, businesses can gain benefits by employing redefined team-building processes through which teams will be generated in a more cohesive and efficient manner. Aiming at forming productive and effective teams, we present PROTEAS, a framework where professional profiles and personality traits are both taken into account in the teambuilding process. The professional portrait of users is drawn from their LinkedIn accounts, while hints for their personality are obtained by a well-defined questionnaire based on the Big Five Factor Model. The significance of personality is substantiated by recent research work where it has been proven that personality traits can play a vital role in group dynamics. Motivated by the latter, PROTEAS defines a series of variables where characteristics of team members (e.g. skills, education) are combined with personality traits towards identifying candidate teams. All candidates are evaluated via a weight-based algorithm which calculates pair-wise similarities among teams’ members and ranks the teams accordingly at the end. To assess the effectiveness of PROTEAS an academic setting has been chosen and through the experimentation a number of interesting observations occurred which are analogous to those of similar researches, confirming the significance of personality and professional compatibility between team members.

We define the need for sense-making as the desire to find reliable connections between the objects, situations, and relationships that people encounter. We have proposed and tested that there are possible individual differences in the need for sense-making and that these individual differences are insightful in characterizing individuals and their behaviors. A correlational study (N = 229) showed that need for sense-making was positively related to self-esteem, extroversion, conscientiousness, openness, and sense of control. Additionally, a higher need for sense-making was associated with greater perception of it as an important part of people’s identity. Thus, need for sense-making is relevant to understanding individual differences and can furthermore comprise a significant element of people’s identity. These results break new ground in the study of individual differences in the need for sense-making and can be of great importance in work and organizational psychology.

University studies during the COVID-19 pandemic are conditioned by many factors that evoke a sense of danger and stress. The purpose of the study was to investigate the situations during the COVID-19 pandemic perceived by students as threatening and to determine the relevance of students’ personality traits in their assessments of the threats and severity of stress associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. Another aim of the research was to identify from whom they most frequently expect help in such situations. The following research problems were formulated. 1. Which situations related to the COVID-19 pandemic are rated most and least threatening by students? 2. Which personality traits described in the ‘Big Five’ theory (McCrae & Costa, 1987) protect students from experiencing grave threats and from experiencing higher stress in the COVID-19 pandemic? 3. What sources of support are received by students and offered by the University? The study involved 149 first-year students of the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Krakow.  The survey was conducted in February 2021. The following research tools were used in the study: a short questionnaire for measuring the Big Five personality traits (IPIP-BFM-20), the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10) and the Questionnaire on Types of COVID-19-Related Threats (TCT). The results of the study showed the importance of: 1. selected personality traits, such as emotional stability, extroversion and conscientiousness, for students’ assessment of the threat to the individual, and protection against the severity of stress experienced; 2. social support that young people receive from their loved ones, including mainly mothers and friends, and 3. support provided by the University.
