    Opis:
    A highly sensitive indirect spectrophotometric redox method for the determination of osmium is reported on. The method is based on the oxidation of iodide by osmium (VI) and the spectrophotometric detection of the liberated iodine in the form of complex anion associate with 2-(4-diethylaminostyryl)-1,3,3-trimethyl-5-thiocyanato-3H-indolium chloride reagent. The appropriate reaction conditions have been established. The molar absorptivity is (0.2-1.2)ź10^5 dm3/molźcm at 589.5 nm wavelength. The absorbance of the coloured extracts obeys the Beer's law in the range to 7.6 mg/dm3 of Os(VI).

    Monoliths that are part of the automotive catalysts include noble metals: platinum, palladium and rhodium, which acts as a catalyst. During the operation of these devices platinum group elements (PGE) are released into the environment. The characteristics of individual metals belonging to the platinum group are presented in this article. These metals can be found in road sediments as well as in water or food. Platinum resources are constantly shrinking, so one of the ideas is their exploitation from the solar system. This article also presents methods of platinum recovery. The publication provides an overview of the literature on platinum-related issues.
    Monolity, które są częścią katalizatorów samochodowych, zawierają metale szlachetne: platynę, pallad i rod, które pełnią funkcję katalityczne. W trakcie eksploatacji tych urządzeń następuje emisja platynowców do środowiska. Przedstawiono charakterystykę poszczególnych platynowców. Metale te możemy odnaleźć w osadach drogowych, jak i w wodzie czy żywności. Zasoby platynowców stale się kurczą, dlatego jednym z pomysłów jest ich eksploatacja z Układu Słonecznego. Zaprezentowano również metody odzysku platynowców. W publikacji przedstawiono przegląd literatury dotyczącej zagadnień związanej z platynowcami.

    Opis:
    OpenStreetMap (OSM) is a collaborative project covering the whole World with topographic data. Data are edited by volunteer users on the basis of satellite images, ortophotomaps and GPS traces, therefore are of diversified quality, especially completeness and positional accuracy. The aim of this study was to evaluate the usability of OSM forest data for Poland. We proved that positional accuracy, expressed by RMSE that equals to 16 m, was comparable with the national topographic data at the scale 1:10 000. However 3.5% of the outliers were noticed, for which the positional accuracy amounted to about 300 m. The completeness of the OSM data in May 2017, computed on the basis of Czekanowski matching feature area−based completeness index, equalled 86% and was still increasing. The lowest value of the completeness was observed for lubuskie voivodeship (76.4%), while the highest (92.5%) for zachodniopomorskie. For ten voivodeships the completeness of forest cover was greater than national average. In general, there were only a few forest polygons with their name or other pertinent characteristics like tree type (coniferous/deciduous) attributed by the editors. Logical consistency was nearly perfect as only 5.8% of the polygons were topologically incorrect. Forest definition as ‘an area dominated by trees’, is very similar in national topographic data and in OSM, both are based on physical characteristics of the surface of the Earth. Contrary to the national spatial data, OSM data are constantly updated, free and available without restrictions. It constitutes valuable alternative data source for all users. However, the heterogeneity of these data should also be kept in mind, while they are used in analysis and decision process support.
