Nauczanie ortografii to proces długotrwały, wymagający systematyczności i zaangażowania nauczyciela i  uczniów. Trudności w  opanowaniu poprawnej pisowni powoduje abstrakcyjny charakter i bogactwo treści ortograficznych. Warunkiem osiągania sukcesów na polu ortografii w edukacji wczesnoszkolnej jest znajomość i stosowanie zasad nauczania ortografii. Należą do nich: zasada profilaktyki, zasada systematyczności i  ciągłości, zasada integracji poszczególnych działów ćwiczeń językowych, zasada przystępności i stopniowania wymagań, zasada poglądowości, zasada aktywności ucznia oraz zasada kontroli i oceny. Odpowiednie przygotowanie metodyczne nauczyciela do nauczania ortografii sprawi, że nauka poprawnej pisowni stanie się łatwa i przyjemna. Należy dołożyć wszel kich starań, aby uczniowie nie kojarzyli nauki ortografii z porażką i niską oceną.
Teaching orthography is a long term process, requiring orderliness and commitment of teachers and students alike. Difficulties in mastering a proper spelling is caused by abstractive character and rich amount of orthographic content. Condition of achieving success in orthography in early school education is knowledge and usage of rules of teaching orthography. They include: rule of prevention, rule of orderliness and continuity , rule of integration of specific parts of language exercises, rules of approachability and scaling of requirements, rule of opinion, rule of student’s activity and rule of control and grading. Proper preparation of teachers in teaching orthography will make teaching a proper spelling easy and pleasant.

The e-learning course is one of the most efficient and promising didactic policies. It must be grounded on the revision because it was proved that it enhances the longterm memory. However, human mind is not a uniform phenomenon. Each man memorizes and learns in a different manner. The purpose of the intelligent e-learning system presented in this paper is to teach orthography and this system is based on the multilayer neural network. Such structure enables a learner to adjust the crucial period between revisions to personal learning habits and policy.

The aim of the article is to analyse orthographic errors in Russian postcard messages from the second half of the 20th century. Nearly 240 orthographic errors retrieved from a corpus consisting of approximately 1000 Russian postcards have been classified and examined. The results of the study present the most common mistakes occurring in this type of correspondence.

Opis:
This article proposes changes to the spelling of names of topographic objects. In the author’s opinion, the changes would contribute to the simplification of the spelling of a large group of words and would be consistent with the orthographic practice of a significant number of language users. Topographic names could be spelled according to the rules applicable to geographic names, that is e.g. Rondo Dmowskiego, Cmentarz Łyczakowski, Restauracja pod Dębem, Hala Kopińska, but: hala Wola. It is also proposed to spell the names of inhabitants of towns, cities, villages, and districts with the capital letter, by analogy to the spelling of the names of inhabitants of countries or geographic regions, that is e.g. Gdańszczanin, Chorzowianka. These solutions were proposed by the author already in 2019 at a session of Zespół Ortograficzno-Onomastyczny (Team for Orthography and Onomastics) by Rada Języka Polskiego (Council for the Polish Language).

Over the past two decades, Silesian literature has been written in eleven different types of orthography, the most important of which are the classical, neo-Steuer and “slabikŏrzowa” orthographies. Other orthographic proposals, e.g. by D. Dyrda, B. Kallus, P. Kalinowski, H. Kaluza, R. Wencel, did not become popular and were abandoned rather quickly. As a result, contemporary Silesian literature was dominated by the “ślabikŏrzowa” spelling, gaining popularity due to its conservative form and the support of the most essential Silesian publishing houses. However, an obstacle to the complete stabilisation of Silesian orthography is the variant spelling of “ślabikŏrzowa” (“full “ślabikorz” and simplified “ślabikŏrz”) and no detailed, explicative normative works (i.e. orthographic dictionary, grammar).

Walenty Szylarski is the author of two Polish grammar books, one in the form of manuscript of 1767 and the other one published in Lviv in 1770. The subject matter of the analysis is fi ve normative resolutions proposed by Szylarski. They concerned: 1) the use of a diacritic over a, 2) the position of ą in the alphabet; 3) the spelling of j before a vowel; 4) the nominative and accusative cases of singular neuter nouns ending with -ę; 5) the instrumental and locative cases of singular and instrumental case of plural masculine and neuter adjectives. Szylarski’s suggestions concerning orthography had two basic causes: one was the lack of standardised, generally accepted rules of o rthography (fl uctuations in the use of endings), the other was the incompatibility of the spelling convention and the properties of language in use (j, -ę in the fi nal position, position of ą in the alphabet, use of a diacritic over the conjunction a). Some of the orthographic proposals were noticed, while others were not.

This paper discusses the orthographic standard of the modern Polish language as regards capitalisation. On selected examples, we point to the fact that the general nature of orthographic rules governing capitalisation makes them ignore numerous phenomena characteristic of the economic and legal sphere. The absence of an up-to-date and diverse sample material illustrating the individual rules, in turn, hampers making prescriptive decisions with regard to the spelling of specific expressions from the domain of the latest official Polish language. As a consequence, the mismatch between codification and usage increases, which is exemplifi ed in the analytical part of the paper. The conducted research leads to the conclusion that such standardisation of the spelling of specialist varieties of Polish as satisfi es the needs of its users is an urgent matter.

In the contemporary Silesian-language communicative space, the dominant role is played by the ślabikŏrzowa orthography, i.e. the way of writing developed at the end of the first decade of the twenty-first century. This spelling system is used in most recent Silesian-language publications, advertising language, electronic media, computer software and smartphones. The ślabikŏrzowa orthography owes its privileged position to its conservative form, the presence of clear and straightforward rules of usage and a relatively strong organisational, intellectual, scientific and economic background. However, the further development of ślabikŏrzowy literature is hampered by the lack of detailed normative materials (i.e. spelling dictionary, grammar).

This article takes a ‘bottom-up’ approach to the spelling of the genitive case of the word ΙΝΔΙΚΤΙΩΝ as ΙΝΔΙΚΤΙΩΝOΣ or ΙΝΔΙΚΤΙOΝOΣ. It is first shown that the editors of documentary papyri supplement this term in abbreviations and lacunae mostly with the omicron spelling. Chronological quantitative analysis shows that this is also the spelling that is used by ancient writers in contemporary documents. The conventional spelling in documentary papyri between the fourth and eighth centuries in Egypt may thus have differed from what is prescribed in literary sources.

While there is substantial research on literacy in the L1, factors impacting literacy in the L2 remain understudied. Preliminary research indicates that orthographic accuracy and typology influence literacy acquisition, indicating these aspects of linguistic representation need further exploration within the context of second-language acquisition (SLA). Additionally, SLA research on individual learner differences highlights emotional factors such as attitude and motivation, which are widely considered critical indicators of L2 success. Motivation is closely linked to perceptions towards the L2, which indicates learner perceptions of L2 literacy could impact success in learning to read and write. As such, this paper presents a cross-lingual, mixed-methods study that compares the orthographic transparency and typologies of 26 languages against learners’ (n = 217) perceptions of L2 literacy acquisition, such as perceived difficulty of the orthography and a self-assessment of literacy skills. Results indicated that orthographic transparency has a greater impact on learners’ perceptions compared to typology alone.

Opis:
Normally, the sequences of graphic language devices function as “building material” for morphemes and words. Nevertheless, these sequences sometimes (especially in literary texts) occur in defamiliarized forms. The paper describes how the defamiliarized sequences of graphic devices are used in several texts written by Czech authors and how they can be interpreted by recipients. A specific way of use of graphic devices can represent the intellectual level of a character, evocate the course of spoken utterances, reveal the conventionality of orthographic rules, etc.

The article presents the results of an analysis of marking of palatal l in prints from the source database of Słownik polszczyzny XVI wieku (16th-century Polish language dictionary). The analysis takes into account the various conditions of this phenomenon: functional, frequency, contextual, textual, regional and publishing ones. The analysis shows that the rare records of the consonant l’ certified in the papers originated from the spelling of manuscripts. Most often, they appear in printed texts from the first half of the sixteenth century, mainly in the earliest texts and dictionaries, as well as in texts originating from southern Poland and southern Borderlands. Marking of palatal l in printed materials is characterised by a high degree of lexicalisation and dependence on the phonetic context and less dependent on the place of publication.

Do you Speak Vong? The present article aims to present the „Vong-language“ as a relatively new language creation of German Internet-based communication, its origin, development and main features. The orthographic and grammatical features of this language phenomenon are based on the fact that spelling and grammatical errors are committed intentionally and according to certain regularities. Linguists present the „Vong-language“ as an instrument of criticism and language play that satirizes the language misuse of some Internet users.
Der vorliegende Beitrag setzt sich zum Ziel, die Vong-Sprache als eine relativ neue, in der deutschen internetbasierten Kommunikation funktionierende Sprachkreation, deren Herkunft, Entwicklung und Hauptmerkmale zu beschreiben. Die orthographischen und grammatischen Merkmale dieses Sprachphänomens beruhen darauf, dass Rechtschreib- und Grammatikfehler absichtlich und nach bestimmten Regularitäten begangen werden. Von den Sprachwissenschaftlern wird die Vong-Sprache als Mittel der Sprachkritik und des Sprachspiels präsentiert, das den falschen Sprachgebrauch einiger Internetnutzer persifliert.
