Opis:
In this paper, flow through a free triangular orifice is considered. The comparison of two formulas was conducted for discharge calculations: a large orifice formula and a small orifice formula. The results show that, above a certain value of upstream head to orifice height ratio there is no need for small-large formula discrimination. The differences in the outcomes for the two formulas are negligible for upstream head to orifice height ratios greater than 3. This means that a small orifice formula can be used instead of a large orifice formula. Calculations were performed for different variants of triangle orientation (with tip downwards, sidewards and upwards) as well as for different dimensions of orifice (equilateral and isosceles). The calculations also included different submergence levels of the upper edge of the orifice and variable dimensions of the orifice with constant upstream head. Neither of these conditions affect the relative deviation values for small and large orifice formulas.

Opis:
The aim of this paper was to analyze theoretical aspects of calculating steady water flow through unsubmerged circular orifices. Theoretical analysis shows that the values of discharge obtained by using formulas intended for small orifices are greater than those calculated using formulas for large orifices. These differences attain a maximum value when the water level reaches the upper edge of the orifice, and decrease when water head increases. It has been proven that the volumetric flow rate for circular unsubmerged orifices can be calculated by formulas for small orifices when the water level above the center of gravity is at least four times as high as the diameter of the orifice.

Opis:
A modern CFD code was used to simulate fluid flow through a pipeline with an orifice. A two-dimensional flow was assumed. The influence of the turbulence model and the size of the numerical grid on the quality of the obtained results was tested. It appears from the performed calculations that the standard Launder-Spalding k-[eta] model yields the best results for two-dimensional flows through pipeline-orifice systems.

Opis:
With the recent advancement in technology for titanium metal powder injection molding and additive manufacturing, high yield and good flowability powder production is needed. In this study, titanium powder was produced through vacuum induction melting gas atomization with a cold crucible, which can yield various alloy compositions without the need for material pretreatment. The gas behavior in the injection section was simulated according to the orifice protrusion length for effective powder production, and powder was prepared based on the simulation results. The gas distribution changes with the orifice protrusion length, which changes the location of the recirculation zone and production yield of the powder. The produced powders had a spherical morphology, and the content of impurities (N, O) changed with the injected-gas purity.

Opis:
Hydrodynamic cavitation is a phenomenon that can be used in the water treatment process. For this purpose, venturis or orifices varying in geometry are used. Studying this phenomenon under experimental conditions is challenging due to its high dynamics and difficulties in measuring and observing the phase transition of the liquid. For this reason, the CFD method was used to study the phenomenon of hydrodynamic cavitation occurring in water flow through the orifice and then analyze flow parameters for different boundary conditions. The research was performed for four different orifice geometries and two defined fluid pressure values at the inlet, based on a computational 2D model of the research object created in Ansys Fluent software. As a result of the numerical simulation, the distribution of fluid velocity and pressure and volume fraction of the gas phase were obtained. A qualitative and quantitative analysis of the phenomenon of hydrodynamic cavitation under the considered flow conditions was conducted for the defined orifice geometries. The largest cavitation zone and thus the largest volume fraction of the gas phase was obtained for the orifice diameter of 2 mm with a sharp increase in diameter. However, the geometry with a linear change in diameter provided the largest volume fraction of the gas phase per power unit.

Opis:
In the paper, the authors present an ongoing research on the absorption and measurement uncertainty of perforated panels made at different scales. Knowing the similarity criteria describing the relation between a full-size perforated panel and its scaled equivalent, it is possible to conduct the measurements of the elements of significantly reduced size - with an area not exceeding 0.2 m2. This procedure notably decreases the costs resulting from the production, transportation and storing the measurement samples. At the same time, the obtained values of sound absorption coefficient measured for the samples at 1:8 scale will characterize their full-size equivalents of geometry changed according to the derived similarity criteria. The paper discusses the possibilities of measurement of scaled samples.
