Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to present an idea for understanding cultural processes in the organizational�discourse from the perspective of four paradigms in management sciences based on the concept of G. Burrell and G. Morgan. Methodology: The author has elaborated a valuable list of structures of the scientifi c theory based on the respective paradigms and has compared cultural paradigms in management sciences. The methodology involves an analysis of classical and recent world literature. Nowadays there is no consensus on the defi nitions, types or research models of organizational culture. Originality: In the literature on the subject we can fi nd many, sometimes contradictory cultural research studies that require further analysis. Precisely because of the diversity and complexity of cultural issues in management sciences a multi-paradigmatic analysis is necessary. The paper presents a proposal for a pluralistic approach to the theory and methodology of cultural studies in management sciences

The article presents a definition of documentation culture understood as the motivations, attitudes and behaviours of the authors and users of documentation that occur during its planned and effective creation, gathering, storing, compiling, and sharing by using methods and rules of complex management of documentation by means of tools, techniques and technologies that are available. The article points out that the notion of documentation culture is linked with the notion of the social information order which is an essential part of the social infrastructure of a country as well as supranational and international structures. It also points out that the notion does not have its stable place in the typology of cultures nor in the hierarchy of different categories of culture. The author shows the relation between documentation culture and the information culture, IT culture, organizational culture as well as material and spiritual culture. In the summary, the author states that documentation culture is the part of culture whose creations are passed to the next generations as cultural heritage.

While talent management programs are well described in the literature, little is known about factors influencing their shape. The aim of the paper is to propose a method of organizational culture measurement tool that would fit talent management programs specificity. On the basis of critical analysis of qualitative research results conducted in 2011 and 2012 regarding talent management in organizations, I identified criteria which should be met by the organizational culture measurement tool. On the basis of analysis of chosen organizational culture measurement tools confronted with previously identified criteria, I recommend the most adequate tool from the perspective of talent management programs specificity. In the final part I suggest the way of tool adaptation for Polish conditions and draw implications for theory.

The publication focuses on issues related to the culture of safety and the culture of quality. The aim of the publication is to analyze the literature on the subject of these two concepts and to present the relationship between the culture of quality and culture of safety. The integrated system should include the culture of an integrated management system, which will include issues related to individual partial cultures, for example the cultures of quality and safety presented in this publication. This concept includes all elements of the culture of quality and culture of occupational safety. This opens up new, interesting research fields, consistent with contemporary trends in both theory and practice of management sciences. Considering the practical dimension of management sciences, it is difficult to consider separately the "culture" of individual subsystems, where in most enterprises, especially industrial ones, these systems do not appear separately and are implemented in the form of an integrated system.

Knowledge and its management are considered, among others, in terms of a process and a system. In the first case it consists not only in gaining and processing knowledge but also in ensuring the development of the subject. On the other hand, the whole of the authorities and administrations responsible for the execution of public tasks, linked by information and remaining in the legally established competence relations, together with the auxiliary apparatus (administrative, staff, organizational) and the necessary infrastructure, constitute the knowledge management system. In both cases, we should talk about a special type of organizations functioning in the public sphere. For the authors, the point of reference for effective knowledge management are the feedback relations based on values and norms located in the organizational culture, affecting the development of its participants in both functional and processual sense, especially in today’s VUCA world. The organizational culture of public organizations determines the system and results of knowledge management. The question addressed in this article is an extension of this issue. It presents the relationship between organizational culture and knowledge management. The conclusions drawn include the following statements: there is no ideal model of organizational culture, adequate to the objectives of knowledge management; organizational culture affects the applied methods of knowledge management; values and norms must result from the knowledge strategy of public organizations; the model of organizational culture implemented in the public sphere must take into account the characteristics of national culture.

Development is focused on issues related to the uncertainty avoidance in the workplace and the factors motivating employees. It is based on the results of empirical research in three groups of companies: Polish, which use Japanese management methods, Polish, which do not use Japanese management methods and Japanese companies operating in Poland. The research method is comparative case studies in the three groups of companies. The aim of the survey was to show which of the motivating factors are the most important to employees in the surveyed companies and to show which ones help to reduce uncertainty in the workplace. At the end there are given examples of actions that are taken in Japanese companies in Japan. There is also formulated a recommendation that a number of these actions should be transferred to the Polish companies to strengthen the effectiveness of motivation and help to reduce the feeling of uncertainty.

The relevance of the survey is due to the need to understand the role of the manager of a higher education institution in conditions of uncertainty against the background of socio-economic crises, when the organizational culture of the management of an educational institution is being formed. Large-scale transformations in all spheres of life are outlined, which drive the economy, science, culture, education, industry and lead to the development of innovative approaches to the formation of organizational culture, based on the need to use professionalism and deeper experience of professional managers of higher education institutions. The article highlights the essence and conceptual and terminological apparatus of the researched topic. The content of the concepts “organizational culture” and “innovative management” is considered. The article highlights the issues of organizational culture as a tool for increasing the competitiveness of the institution in the system of higher education. The essence of organizational culture in a higher education institution is considered and revealed. The relevance of the study of organizational culture is connected with the fact that knowledge of the characteristics of the organizational culture of a higher education institution will allow to assess the degree of its stability, predict possible directions of management decisions, and also contribute to the achievement of planned results. The article focuses on the fact that the success of a higher education institution is directly linked to its culture. After all, the main indicator of a good state of affairs in a higher education institution is the ability to attract and retain talented employees. The impact of organizational culture on various aspects of higher education institution activities, which are considered by a number of sciences, such as personnel management, economics and sociology of work, organization theory, strategic management, management psychology, management sociology, is singled out. In the article, it is determined that organizational culture in an educational institution is formed under the influence of management consulting. The essence of consulting activity in a higher education institution is considered and disclosed. The main functions of consulting in institutions of higher education, which contribute to the qualitative formation of organizational culture in the institution of higher education, are highlighted. Content aspects of the process of modeling organizational culture in a higher education institution are highlighted. Emphasis is placed on the components of the model based on the application of modern principles and innovations for the perspective development of the higher education system and assistance in providing higher education institutions with highly qualified personnel. An analysis of the theoretical foundations and classification identification of the design of consulting activities in a higher education institution as a tool for the formation of organizational culture is carried out. The difficulties and contradictions inherent in the formation of the organizational environment of a higher education institution are considered.

The processes of undergoing in aging socjety mean also aging of workers. The figure of more and more elderly people employed will be reflected in a modified organizational culture. Organizational culture defined as a set of a pattern of shared basic assumptions learned by a group as it solved its problems of external adaptation and internal integration (...) A product of joint learning (E.Schein) is both stim- ulated by the management and spontaneously created by the subordinates. The author presents the outline of problems associated with changes within the organizational culture triggered by aging of employees with special attention to the need of recognizing new rules of integration such workers and adaptation of ‘aging’ organizations to various branches or actors of surrounding.

The purpose of this article is to present the most important aspects of the perception of the concept of motivating defined in different cultures. It is based on the selected items of literature, analysis of the prospects for Japan and the EU and the U.S. on the perception of motivation, employment, membership in the organization and management styles. The authors tried to show the reader the impact of Japanese management techniques motivation in the European Union and the United States of America.

This article addresses selected aspects of organizational culture to be considered in the context of knowledge based proactive safety and security management of plants, ports and systems of critical infrastructure. It has been often emphasized in the domain literature that business effectiveness of such plants and their resilience against hazards and threats to avoid major accidents depends substantially on human and organizational factors. It becomes obvious that appropriate shaping of these factors is crucial and should be considered in life cycle. Some terms have been also introduced such as safety culture and security culture. Current research topic in this domain includes an interface between safety and security. The article discusses these issues in the context of knowledge based proactive safety and security management being a new challenge, especially in cases of hazardous plants, ports and other complex systems of critical infrastructure. Nevertheless a crucial role plays the human-operator undertaking safety-related decisions during potential abnormal situations and accidents. Below some issues concerning requirements for the alarm system design in context of human factors are outlined and discussed.
