Opis:
The author has developed and patented several types of gas cupola furnaces, which, due to replacing coke with gas, do not emit carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide and coke dust. The author has defined the optimal modes of gas-and-air mixture combustion, i.e. the optimal coefficient of air discharge and gas mixture escape speed in melting cast iron. It has been experimentally proved that from the point of view of obtaining the maximum temperature, the optimal was the process with some lack of air, i.e. with α = 0.98. The results of metallurgical studies used in the article allowed to develop an optimal structure of the gas cupola furnace with a heterogeneous refractory filling, and to establish the optimal composition of the filling. For the first time the optimal composition of the filling is given: 40% of chamotte, 30% of high-alumina refractory, 30% of electrode scrap. It has been noted that when gas cupola furnaces were used, the main environmental advantage was the reduction of dust emission into the atmosphere, CO and SO2 content.

Opis:
This article presents new method of controlled gas nitriding called ZeroFlow, which is used for nitriding of selected car engine parts. Parts such as crankshafts, camshafts, piston rings, poppet valve springs and discs, piston pins or nozzles for unit injectors was nitrided with ZeroFlow method so far. Through the use of simulation models it was possible to develop the specially dedicated process with specific parameters for each of this parts; it allows forming of nitride layer with strictly expected properties: required phase structure with thicknesses of each zone occurs in it and required hardness distribution. Moreover, through the use of simulation models this layers were obtained in in the shortest possible time, which is connected with the lowest energy consumption; therefore, nitriding process using ZeroFlow method is both economical and environmentally friendly. This article will discuss the essence of controlled gas nitriding process, with an emphasis on the influence of process parameters on results of nitriding process. This information are the basis to understand the issue of the kinetics of nitrided layer growth, and as it follows – for its practical application in designing, regulation and control of nitriding processes using simulation models (simulator of the kinetics of nitrided layer growth). Designing of ZeroFlow nitriding processes on the basis of the kinetics of nitrided layer will be shown on the example of nitriding of crankshafts for sports car engines.

Opis:
This article discusses the influence of Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) surfacing of duplex cast steel on its hardness and structure. The samples of 24Cr-5Ni-2.5Mo ferritic-austenitic cast steel were subjected to single-overlay processes with the use of solid wire having the chemical composition similar to that of the duplex cast steel. As a result of the surfacing, the welds were obtained that had no welding imperfections with a smooth transition to the base material. In the test without the heat treatment, directly below the fusion line, we observe a ferrite band with a width of approximately 200 μm without visible austenite areas. Some of the samples were then solution treated (1060°C). Both variants, without and after solution heat treatment, were subjected to testing. Significant changes in the microstructure of the joint were observed after the heat treatment process (heat affected zone and weld microstructure changes). In both areas, an increase in the austenite volume fraction after solution heat treatment was observed. Changes in the microhardness of the ferrite in the HAZ area directly below the fusion line were also observed.

Opis:
Recent changes to the sewage sludge management can be attributed to the restrictive deadlines of implementing EU regulations concerning wastewater treatment and sewage sludge utilization. Drying and thermal treatment of sewage sludge is becoming increasingly popular. From nearly zero share of thermal treatment methods in the sewage sludge management currently the share exceeds 35%. Implementation of numerous investments is facilitated by respective structure programs in the scope of environmental protection supported with EU funds. The analysis of chosen aspects of new operational experience constitutes the main part of the present paper. Analysed were domestic operational practices concerning the applied technologies of sewage sludge drying, their effectiveness and reliability. The aspect of effectiveness of flue gas cleaning with the use of sodium bicarbonate, method characteristic for many Polish sewage sludge incineration facilities, is discussed in detail. The analysis is based on the current operational data and own research.
