Opis:
In the paper, a back swept impeller of centrifugal compressor is experimentally studied and numerically validated and modified to increase its pressure ratio and improve efficiency, as well as to analyse the effect of splitter blade location between two main blades. The back swept multi splitter blade impeller was designed with a big splitter positioned close to the main blade suction surface and a smaller splitter close to the pressure surface. Adding this multi splitter improves the overall performance of the modified impeller due to less intensive flow separation and smaller pressure loss. In particular, the total pressure ratio was observed to increase from 4.1 to 4.4, with one percent increase in efficiency.

Opis:
The simulation analysis was performed to enhance the efficiency of Sb2 S3 solar cells using the SCAPS-1D software. The Sb2 S3 compound was used as the absorber layer in the solar cell. The simulation was conducted to verify the efficiency and accuracy of the results obtained from the program. The results were found to be in agreement with the practical results. The original cell’s efficiency was 11.47% with a fill factor of 61.18%, and after the simulation, the efficiency was found to be 11.43% with a fill factor of 61.2%. To enhance the efficiency of the solar cell, a reflective background layer (BSL) was added. Different BSL layers were examined, including SnS, Si, CIGS, CZTSSe, and CUS bS3 , and the best reflective layer was found to be CUSbS3 . The solar cell structure was designed as follows: glass/Mo/CUSbS3 /Sb2 S3 /CdS/i:ZnO/AL:ZnO. After adding the reflective layer, the efficiency of the solar cell was found to be 20.59% with a fill factor of 87.53%. The results suggest that adding reflective layers to solar cells can enhance their performance and increase their efficiency.

Opis:
Energy harvesting shock absorbers can generate about 15-20 W of electric power for normal suspension velocities. However, higher weight, fail safe characteristics and space limitations have restricted development of regenerative shock absorbers to research prototypes. Power to weight ratio of regenerative shock absorbers can be improved by incorporating motion amplification. In the presented work, an innovative design of energy harvesting shock absorber has been presented that uses motion amplification for improving harvesting efficiency. Apart from improving electric power, the proposed solution is fail safe and can be easily incorporated in existing vehicles with only marginal change in suspension layout. Study includes detailed numerical analysis for vibration transmissibility to investigate comfort and safety. Further, a prototype has been fabricated and experimentation has been performed to compute electric power generated and comfort. Simulations have been performed on real size model with utilization of harvested electric power which indicates about 19% of overall harvesting efficiency.

Opis:
Vibration Energy Harvesting is being investigated for autonomous sensors and actuators that mainly utilize ambient and machine induced vibrations. Recently mechanical motion amplification is incorporated for improving power to weight ratio of vibration harvesters. The present study is motivated to investigate mechanical motion amplification characteristics with different configurations. The parameters investigated are motion amplification ratio, force transmissibility characteristics, weight of the electrical generator, effective damping coefficient achieved and linear nature of damping. Numerical analysis has been performed to compare important characteristics of device operating without amplification to that of with amplification with different configuration. The study has been concluded with comments on application of suitable type of amplification mechanism depending on weight/space constraints and desired effective damping coefficient.

Opis:
The paper is intended to describe a method for the calculation of 3D viscous compressible (subsonic or supersonic) flow in axial turbomachines described in the form of thin-layer Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations. The method draws on Godunov-type upwind differencing and ENO reconstruction suggested by Harten (1987), so as to assure monotonicity preservation and high accuracy of computational results. The computational efficiency is achieved thanks to the implementation of a simplified H-type multi-grid approach and delta -form implicit step. Turbulent effects are simulated with the help of a modified algebraic model of Baldwin-Lomax (1978). This method was at the foundation of a computer code-a complex software package to calculate 3D flow in multi-stage turbomachines that allows us to obtain local characteristics, like temperature, pressure, density or velocity distributions, as well as global characteristics, such as flow rates, stage reaction, flow efficiency for the considered turbine/compressor stage. The paper also gives selected results of computation of a number of turbomachinery cascades, showing that these results agree reasonably well with the available experimental data.
