Opis:: Aim. The main aim of presented study is the exploration of university students´ reflection on chosen characteristics of national populism in Slovakia. Methods. For the main method of the study, a quantitative approach has been used. Students studying at universities in the Slovak Republic have been addressed via a questionnaire prepared in advance. Recorded answers of sixty-seven university students studying in the Slovak Republic have been analysed via first-degree data sorting. Results. The study has a theoretical-empirical character. In the theoretical part, there is a brief characteristic of national populism and characteristics of national-populistic tactics and strategies in Slovakia. In the empirical part, the analysis of surveyed university students´ opinions shows that most addressed university students studying at Slovak universities have not expressed a negative view of presenting the interests of the Slovak nation by political representatives. Conclusion. The addressed university students reflect on the issue of national populism on the Slovak political scene. On the other hand, respondents lack a relevant and expert view of the issue of national populism through the optics of a university educator who would (via his/her expert opinion) help students to identify undesired national-populistic tactics and strategies. A more detailed study of university students’ opinions related to their view of national populism and its manifestations in Slovakia should be supplemented by a qualitative study, using in-depth interviews.

Opis:: W dobie pogłębiających się procesów globalizacji i światowych migracji jedną z istotnych ról wykorzystywanych przez państwo jest zarządzanie narodową tożsamością zarówno na poziomie państwa, jak i szerzej w kontekście integrującej się Unii Europejskiej. Jest to zadanie niezwykle trudne, bo wymaga pogodzenia interesów zarówno jednostek, jak i szerszych zbiorowości, w tym tych o ponadnarodowym charakterze. Na poziomie państwa od wypracowania inkluzywnej polityki tożsamościowej zależy osiągnięcie narodowego konsensusu, opartego na wspólnych, niewykluczających się symbolach i wartościach. W tym kontekście szczególnego znaczenia nabiera wrażliwość na głosy mniejszości, które coraz częściej stają się aktywnymi uczestnikami lokalnego życia społecznego i kulturalnego. Dobrze skonstruowana tożsamość narodowa może być spoiwem dla wielokulturowego społeczeństwa, przynosząc mu większą efektywność. W ten sposób można redukować społeczne napięcia, stwarzać przestrzeń dla współpracy, minimalizować obszary wykluczenia. Tymczasem na poziomie europejskim wciąż odległy wydaje się być projekt wspólnej ponadnarodowej tożsamości. W tej perspektywie głównym problemem jest wypracowanie jednolitego stanowiska w kluczowych, ale budzących największe emocje kwestiach, dotyczących m.in. budowania wspólnej pamięci historycznej.
In the time of deepening processes of globalization and world migrations, one of the essential parts, used by the state is the management of national identity at the state level and in the context of the integrating European Union. This task is extremely difficult, because it requires reconciling the interests of individuals and communities, including those of a transnational nature. At the state level, diversity of identity policy depends on national consensus based on common and non-exclusive symbols and values. The sensibility to the voice of minorities is getting particularly important, as they are significantly become active participants in the local daily life - social life. Similar arguments appear in the public debate, where it is argued that a well-constructed national identity may became a binder for a multicultural society, bringing much better efficiency to the community. In this way, there is possibility to reduce social tensions, create a room for cooperation and minimize sectors of social exclusion as well. Meanwhile, at the European level, the project of transnational identity still seems to be distant. In this point of view, the main concern of nations is to get the same way among the most important matters which are obviously the most emotional issues too, such as building up a common historical memory for example.
