- Premiera nowego Citaro z napędem hybrydowym podczas tegorocznych targów Busworld Europe otwiera nowy rozdział w ewolucji systemów napędowych autobusów miejskich. Tym razem Mercedes-Benz postanowił przedstawić zupełnie inne podejście do rozwoju autobusów hybrydowych. Dotychczas niemal wszyscy producenci budowali autobus hybrydowy, wykorzystując jako bazę model z napędem konwencjonalnym, jednak w większości przypadków zmiany nie tylko ograniczały się do wymiany komponentów układu napędowego. Wprowadzenie dodatkowego silnika elektrycznego, baterii lub superkondensatorów oraz układów sterowania mocą powodowało, że w ramach prac projektowych należało także mocno zaingerować w konstrukcję nośną pojazdu. Oczywiście montaż wszystkich dodatkowych komponentów miał wpływ na znaczny wzrost ceny pojazdu, a także na wzrost masy, co powodowało dość istotne ograniczenie pojemności pojazdu średnio o 10-15%. Teraz konstruktorzy z Mannheim przygotowali nową konstrukcję hybrydy, będącą kompromisem pomiędzy ceną zakupu pojazdu, efektywnym cenowo obniżeniem kosztów jego eksploatacji oraz globalnym efektem ekologicznym. Została ona zaprezentowana w niniejszym artykule.
