A close relationship exists between the moral crisis within the Church that came about due to the sexual revolution and the collapse of moral theology that occurred at precisely the same time. Newer approaches to morality could not address the overwhelming crisis and, therefore, insufficiently responded to the demand for absolute freedom within the sphere of human sexuality; in other words, moral theology was defenseless in the face of the changes that took place after the sexual revolution. Inspired by the events of the past, moral theologians thus sought out models of moral theology that would prevent it from being “defenseless” in the face of the modern sociocultural changes that were taking place. As a result, moral theologians discovered that moral theology should closely connected with Revelation and, at the same time, be rooted in natural law; demonstrate the primacy of charity; be based on faith in God; maintain its ecclesial, normative, and social character; and reject cheap popularity and momentary applause.

This article presents the issue of moral upbringing in families based on a mixed Catholic-Lutheran marriage in a synthetic way. In the time of the crisis of upbringing as such, it becomes essential to pay attention to moral upbringing, which is the foundation of all education, and should be passed on by parents, as the first educators. They take actions that, despite a difference in religion, guide children to form a moral conscience, proper interpersonal relations, and educate them about love, that should be based on truth. In mixed denominational families, the transmission of moral upbringing takes place in the spirit of ecumenism, which means that, despite the threats that may arise, the testimony of Christian love and unity speaks out even stronger.

Is theology able to communicate anything to the economy at all? Would not it be an invasion to an autonomous field of knowledge capable to organize economic activity of man according to its internal rules? However, when asking the economic question of how to satisfy material needs, one cannot ultimately avoid another question – an ethical one – of what the purpose of satisfying those needs is. What is man really looking for? Theology, on the plane of faith and reason, tries to find answers to these fundamental, ultimate questions asked by human beings, who are nowadays often tired of searching for happiness in satisfying the short-term and often artificially created new and new needs. A theologian in his research listens first of all to the word that God pronounces to man. This word, contained in the Bible, sets out the basic lines of the dignity of man, his tasks and the ultimate goal of his existence, which is to achieve full humanity and maturity, namely happiness in God. Only in such a perspective, which goes beyond the mundane, one can properly evaluate every action of man, giving it a rightful place in the whole of his existence. Specific issues relating to man’s economic activity, as described in the Bible, invariably refer to this overall dimension of his existence and his ultimate fulfilment in God as the guarantor of order and the source of life. Hence, any human activity which ignores the structure of that order, planned by the Creator, appears to be disordered and, consequently, leads to the destruction of man himself.

This article considers whether the popular Polish drama-crime television series Ojciec Mateusz [Father Matthew], which is directed by Maciej Dejczer and has been broadcast on TVP1 since 2008, prompts viewers to reflect on Christian moral norms. This research includes the fields of cultural studies and moral theology. From the point of view of moral theology, the theme of Ojciec Mateusz is the battle between good and evil, the basis of which is the tenets of the Decalogue. This study attempts to answer the questions: Is the religiosity hidden in this series, which does not assume the religiosity of the series’ viewers, evoke religious sentiments among those who believe? And, does the series affect the moral formation of those who do not believe?

St. Anselm’s moral thought is based on such concepts as reason, rectitude (uprightness), justice, truth, should/ought to, freedom of the will and love. Human being was endowed with right reason able to find the truth. The latin term ‘rectitudo’, which is exactly connected with the reason, means ‘rightness’ or ‘rectitude’ as well. This term emphesizes not only the dependence on the right reason, but fi rst of all the concordance with God’s order. ‘Rectitudo’, ‘truth’ and ‘justice’ define themselves through each other, and rectitudo defines should (ought to, debere). Another important concept in Anselm’s system of morality is ‘freedom’. He views freedom as freedom of choises (libertas arbitrii) and defi nes it as the ability to keep rectitude of the will for the sake of that very rectitude (potestas servandi rectitudinem voluntatis propter ipsam rectitudinem). This is the ability that a willing and rational subject has for keeping or preserving rectitude (or uprightness) of the will by using their will to will rightly, to will the right things and in the right way. The central component of the freedom is precisely willing that one will rightly, for the sake of preserving this very rectitude of will. Anselm speaks of ‘keepeing’ rectitude of will because in his view being able to will rightly and being able to will rectitude of will means that one already possesses rectitude of will. The rectitude of the will is also called justice. God bestowed rational being with the will for hapieness (voluntas beatitudinis) and will for justice (voluntas justitiae). This twofold charakter of the will, which depends on rectitude, does not mean that there are two kinds of will in human being. There is the only one will, which causes that rational being desires both: hapieness and justice (rectitude) for its own sake. The will becomes unjust when it desires good without rectitude. Keeping the rectitude of the will for its own sake is nesessary to be just.

The goal of this article is recollection of traditional forms of penance often called; Three Good Deeds: fasting, almsgiving and prayer. Looking at the main object of these reflections from the point of view of social moral theology allows one to see how influential are these three good deeds on one’s life, in the fulfillment of oneself, in the relationship with God as well as in the relationship with others. Apart from the above and through the use of Biblical tradition, teaching of the Fathers and the rich teaching of the Church, it also reflects on their source of vitality from antiquity to modern times. The final part of the research focuses on threats in practicing these three good deeds, which includes: secularism, lost sense of sin, consumerism, and permissivism. It is worth mentioning that this refection gains an additional value during this “year of faith,” especially if interpreted in the context of living faith. Often due to the lack of faith fasting, almsgiving and prayer are forgotten and misunderstood.

Professional work is often connected with dangers for human life and health. Employees are exposed for misadventures and professional illnesses. In some professions this risk can be very high. On the other hand work is very important in human life. It ensures integral human development. Hence, man can do his job although some risk can be connected with it. Prerequisite for this kind of activity is using all available means for health and safety. In such situa-tion possible misadventure is only the effect of coincidence, which cannot be predicted. Responsibility for health and safety at work is common duty of em-ployees, employers and state authorities. Employees are mainly responsible for their mental and physical condition, employers for worksite and authorities for reasonable labour legislation.

Ks. Ireneusz Mroczkowski (1949-2020) był teologiem moralistą zatrudnionym na KUL oraz na UKSW i innych uczelniach akademickich. Był aktywnym uczestnikiem życia Kościoła w Płocku jako rektor seminarium, członek Płockiego Towarzystwa Naukowego oraz redaktor „Studiów Płockich”. Pełnił posługę przewodniczącego Stowarzyszenia Teologów Moralistów w Polsce. W swojej twórczości naukowej zajmował się metodologią uprawiania nauki, antropologią teologicznomoralną, teologią ciała, małżeństwem i rodziną, feminizmem, prawami człowieka, moralnością życia społeczno-politycznego oraz ekologią. Zabierał też głos w sprawach wychowania seminaryjnego, kondycji Kościoła w Polsce, powołania i posłannictwa świeckich we współczesnym Kościele oraz aktualnego stanu świadomości moralnej. Był dobrym człowiekiem, który łączył prostą wiarę z dyscypliną rozumu i uczciwością serca.
Fr. Ireneusz Mroczkowski (1949-2020) was a moral theologian employed at the Catholic University of Lublin and at the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University and other academic schools. He was an active participant in the life of the Church in Płock as the rector of the seminary, member of the Płock Scientific Society and editor of Studies in Płock. He served as chairman of the Association of Moral Theologians in Poland. In his scientific work, he dealt with the methodology of moral theology, anthropology, theology of the body, marriage and family, feminism, human rights, morality of socio-political life and ecology. He also spoke about the issues of seminary education, the condition of the Church in Poland, the vocation and mission of lay people in the contemporary Church and the current state of moral awareness. He was a good man who combined simple faith with the discipline of reason and honesty of heart.

The author of this article analyses the moral issues connected with Mary in encyclicals of Popes Benedict XVI and Francis. The nature of the issues raised in those documents points to the necessity of giving priority in the contemporary praxis of life and theology to theological virtues, also in their social dimension. In this context, Mary constitutes an example of morality brought to perfection due to her openness to the Word of God and the grace of the Holy Spirit.

Obecny stan teologii moralnej w Polsce nosi pewne znamiona kryzysu, gdyż zimniejsza się liczba studentów nauk teologicznych i słabnie wiara, która może uskrzydlać czytelne świadectwo teologów. Postępujący proces sekularyzacji staje się zarazem wyzwaniem do głębszej interpretacji współczesnej kultury i znajdowania nowego sposobu i języka przekazu treści ewangelicznych. Papież Franciszek podkreślił, że studia teologiczne „stanowią rodzaj opatrznościowego laboratorium kulturowego, w którym Kościół dokonuje performatywnej interpretacji rzeczywistości, która wypływa z wydarzenia Jezusa Chrystusa i która karmi się darami mądrości i wiedzy, jakimi Duch Święty ubogaca w różnych formach cały lud Boży”. Właściwe zidentyfikowanie adresatów orędzia moralnego Kościoła pozwoli na lepsze dostosowanie form nauczania. Teologia ma służyć Ludowi Bożemu w głębszym przeżywaniu wiary i zabierać glos w toczącej się debacie publicznej w celu wyjaśniania stanowiska Kościoła i argumentowania prawd moralnych. W tym celu trzeba też używać nowych mediów, które pozwoli dotrzeć do szerszej grupy odbiorców.
The present state of moral theology in Poland bears some signs of a crisis, as the number of students of theological sciences is shrinking and the faith, which can give wings to the testimony of theologians, is weakening. The progressive process of secularization becomes at the same time a challenge to a deeper interpretation of contemporary culture and to find a new way and language of conveying the Gospel content. Pope Francis emphasized that theological studies "constitute a kind of providential cultural laboratory in which the Church performs a performative interpretation of the reality that flows from the event of Jesus Christ and which is nourished by the gifts of wisdom and knowledge which the Holy Spirit enriches in various forms the whole people of God." Proper identification of the addressees of the Church's moral message will allow for a better adjustment of the forms of teaching. Theology is to serve the People of God in a deeper experience of faith and to contribute to the ongoing public debate in order to explain the Church's position and to argue moral truths. For this purpose, you also need to use new media that will allow you to reach a wider audience.

If we talk about dilemmas and the ethical challenges of the present time, then we suggest simultaneously that these problems differ in some way from universal ethical questions, important to man in every epoch and in every circumstances, and from these issues which were important in the past or will turn out important in the future, however, at present the general agreement concerning definite decisions prevails. Then it is necessary to identify those special problems of the present time and point out the features due to which they acquire special significance to us. However, presenting the matter in such a way does not seem fully justified, because the times in which we live differ in many regards from all mankind has ever experienced. The development of science and technology and increasing possibility of activities resulting from them, and also a level of complexity of relations linking the acting subject with other different subjects and the external world, caused that also ethical problems have taken on a whole new dimension. The issues which in the beginning of the XXth century were considered as minor or banal (e.g. the problem of man’s influence on the environment) became the key ethical questions in the course of several decades stirring up deep divisions not only among ethicists, but also in the whole society. In majority, they are however practical problems connected with certain general philosophical theories, such as abortion, euthanasia or medical experiments. In the last years they grew almost into symbols, and the way of their deciding shows a general ideological attitude, and even allows to define political views.

W wypowiedziach papieża Franciszka i jego spotkaniach z osobami LGBT+ można dostrzec nowe pastoralne podejście Kościoła rzymskokatolickiego do tych osób. W publikacji przedstawiono stanowisko papieża wobec osób nieheteronormatywnych. Na podstawie papieskiego nauczania zaprezentowano kluczowe etapy procesu ich integracji z Kościołem. Wskazano na istotną rolę refleksji teologiczno-moralnej w przyjęciu, towarzyszeniu, rozeznaniu oraz włączeniu osób LGBT+ do wspólnoty wiary. Na zakończenie sformułowano postulatywne wnioski, dotyczące zainicjowania procesu integracji przez Kościół hierarchiczny.
In the statements of Pope Francis and his meetings with LGBT+ people, one can see a new pastoral approach of the Church to these people. The publication presents the position of the pope towards non-heteronormative persons. Based on his teaching, the key stages of the process of their integration with the Roman Catholic Church are presented. The important role of theological and moral reflection in the reception, accompaniment, discernment and inclusion of LGBT + people into the community of faith was indicated. Finally, postulative conclusions were formulated to initiate the long-awaited integration process.

Celem artykułu jest ukazanie niektórych kwestii moralnych związanych ze zjawiskiem prostytucji. Po syntetycznym opisaniu nauczania Pisma Świętego oraz doktryny najwybitniejszych teologów (św. Augustyna z Hippony i św. Tomasza z Akwinu) podjęto refleksję na temat odpowiedzialności moralnej osób zaangażowanych w prostytucję. Przeanalizowano jej zakres w odniesieniu zarówno do osób oddających się prostytucji, jak i tych, którzy z niej korzystają lub organizują cały proceder. Zwieńczeniem jest przedstawienie powiązań prostytucji z innymi wykroczeniami moralnymi i wybranymi problemami społecznymi. Wskazano, że prostytucja jest bardzo niepokojącym zjawiskiem moralnym i społecznym, które nierzadko przybiera znamię struktur grzechu.
The aim of this article is to show selected moral issues connected with prostitution. After synthetic describing teaching of Scripture and doctrine of the illustrious theologians (St. Augustine of Hippo and St. Thomas Aquinas) reflection on the moral responsibility of people involved in prostitution was taken. Its scope was examined in relation to both those who engage in prostitution, as well as those who use it and organize all dealings. The culmination is to provide links between prostitution and other moral offenses and selected social problems. It has also been suggested that prostitution is a very disturbing moral and social phenomena, which often takes on the sign of the structures of sin.

Opis:
The Catholic moral theology acknowledges a person’s right to use animals in compliance with their nature, while putting the emphasis on the obligation to treat them with proper sensitivity and kindness. This right includes the possibility to conduct experiments on animals. Such experiments are allowed after meeting a range of conditions. Justifiable hopes for scientific development or for achieving practical goals are required. Also, the number of used animals should be limited and the pain and stress the animals feel ought to be minimized. A right balance should be maintained between those factors. Moreover, moral theology elevates the value of intentions, i.e., the objective for which the test results will be used. It can modify the moral classification of experiments, which on their own are good or neutral.
