Opis:
Purpose: This paper presents the study aimed at the development of crosslinked poly(methyl methacrylate)s (X-PMMA) of varied crosslink density and the investigation of the relationships between the polymer network structure and dynamic mechanical properties. Methods: A series of model X-PMMA networks were crosslinked by the introduction of: 1, 2, 5, 10 and 20% of triethylene glycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA). The copolymerizations led to various glass-rubber relaxation properties of the polymer networks, as revealed by dynamic-mechanical analysis (DMA). Glass temperature (Tg) and storage modulus above the Tg ( ) Erubbery were a sensitive function of network architecture. DMA data were used for calculating the network parameter (Mc), crosslink density (q) and its alternative measure – the degree of crosslinking (DX). Results: The viscoelastic properties as well as structural parameters calculated from those showed correlation with the amount of the crosslinker. The increase in TEGDMA content resulted in the Tg, q and DX increases, whereas Mc decrease. The possible incomplete conversion of double bonds was detected in the DMA analysis, which was confirmed by the degree of conversion (DC), measured by FTIR spectroscopy. Additionally, some amount of sol fraction was found by 1H NMR experiments. Conclusions: The structure-property relationships developed for the system presented in this work could be useful in tissue engineering, where X-PMMA is applied. The direct measure of storage modulus values before and above glass transition may serve as a simple and fast indicator of the X-PMMA crosslink density.

Opis:
The paper provides research and results for underground storage of gas (UGSG) in limestone rocks, which were carried out in Slovenia – Central Europe. The areas was geological surveyed and in addition structural boreholes were drilled up to the depth of 350 m. The cores were logged with emphasis on stratigraphy, layering, rock joints, tectonic zones, RQD… and addition characteristics samples were taken for the laboratory rocks geomechanical characteristics investigations. In boreholes geophysical, pressiometric and hydro-geological investigations were also carried out. In the area where the researches have been carried out, limestone, dolomites and breccias are prevalent. Storage should be built for pressure between 15 and 20 MPa. Explorations confirmed that there is a possibility of building a high-pressure underground storage of gas (UGSG) and using applied mechanics for design LRC (Lined Rock Cavern) technology. The construction of underground storage facilities for natural gas storage is important in cases, where the gas supply does not meet the required capacity for operation of the thermal power plant.

Opis:
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effects of different methods of trabecular bone storage on changes in its elastic properties. Methods: 186 porcine trabecular bone samples were divided into 6 groups, approximately 30 samples each. Five groups were stored using the following methods: in buffered 10% formalin solution at room temperature, frozen at –21 C, in the open air at room temperature, in 96% alcohol solution and in 50% alcohol solution at room temperature. The samples were subjected to compression test to measure the elastic modulus. The samples after the first measurement were subjected to further measurements for 14 weeks, every 2 weeks. The sixth group was used to determine the effects of 10 freeze-thaw cycles on changes in the elastic modulus. A Kolmogorov–Smirnov test at significance level p = 0.05 was used to determine the significance of changes in time. Results: The changes in elastic properties caused by the different storage methods were statistically insignificant, except for the group of samples stored in the open air. The changes in elastic modulus after 10 freeze-thaw cycles were also statistically insignificant. Conclusions: Except for the storage method in the open air, other storage methods did not significantly affect changes in elastic properties of the trabecular bones after 14 weeks. No effects of 10 freeze-thaw cycles on changes in elastic modulus were observed.
