Opis:
In this study, the effects of heat-treatment conditions of Fe powder compacts on densification, microstructure, strength and magnetic properties were investigated. The prepared Fe powder was compressed in a mold of diameter 20 mm at a pressure of 800 MPa for 30 sec. This Fe powder compact was heat-treated under different atmospheres (air and 90% Ar + 10% H2 and heat-treatment temperatures (300 and 700℃). The Fe powder compacts heat-treated in an Ar+H2 mixed gas atmosphere showed a denser microstructure and higher density than the Fe powder compacts heat-treated in an air atmosphere. Oxygen content in the heat-treatment conditions played a significant role in the improvement of the densification and magnetic properties.

Opis:
U-10wt.%Zr metallic fuel slugs containing rare-earth (RE: a rare-earth alloy comprising 53% Nd, 25% Ce, 16% Pr and 6% La) elements for a sodium-cooled fast reactor were fabricated by modified injection casting as an alternative method. The distribution, size and composition of the RE inclusions in the metallic fuel slugs were investigated according to the content of the RE inclusions. There were no observed casting defects, such as shrunk pipes, micro-shrinkage or hot tears formed during solidification, in the metallic fuel slugs fabricated by modified injection casting. Scanning electron micrographs and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) showed that the Zr and RE inclusions were uniformly distributed in the matrix and the composition of the RE inclusions was similar to that of a charged RE element. The content and the size of the RE inclusions increased slightly according to the charge content of the RE elements. RE inclusions in U-Zr alloys will have a positive effect on fuel performance due to their micro-size and high degree of distribution.

Opis:
Fe-Cr-B-based metamorphic alloy coating layers were manufactured by plasma spray with a Fe-Cr-B-Mo-Nb composition (hereinafter, M+) powder. The microstructure and wear properties of the coating layers were investigated and compared with a metamorphic alloy coating layer fabricated with commercial m material. XRD analysis revealed that the M and M+ coating layers were composed of α-Fe, (Cr, Fe)2B, and some metallic glass phases. Wear test results showed that M+ coating layers had a superior wear resistance which had 1.48 times lower wear volume than M coating layers. Observations of the worn-out surfaces and cross-sections of the coating layers showed that M+ coating layer had relatively low oxides along the particle boundaries and it suppress a delamination behavior by the oxides.
