The present paper describe the issue of tool materials wear in a high temperature conditions. The investigations were performed at the cast steel tool material at the tribological contact to the structural steel. The investigations aim was to determine the role of microstructure in a tribological properties between the structural steel and tool material. The results of such investigation could be referenced to the industry conditions and could answer about the problems of tool materials wear. The observations of the wear mechanisms were referred to the microstructure of the mill rolls. The laboratory tests ware aimed at evaluating the thermal treatment modification effect on the cast steels properties. A significant role of the morphology of ledeburitic cementite and secondary cementite on the tribological properties was exhibited. The investigations assumed the presence of an austenitic matrix with primary and secondary cementite. Influence of varying morphology carbides was described. in the cast steel microstructure. The investigation results make possible to point to a direction of carbide morphology change with the purpose of obtaining the assumed properties of hot operation tools.

Opis:
The article presents the results of studies of the oxidation process conducted at 900°C for 12 hours in an atmosphere of water vapour on cast heat-resistant steel with a diversified structure (ferritic-austenitic, austenitic, and austenitic with carbides). Based on the studies of oxidation kinetics, it was found that samples were oxidized in approximation with the rules of linear law. Depending on the chemical composition and structure of tested alloys, the scale formed on the alloy surface had different properties. In the tested material characterised by a ferritic-austenitic structure, the tendency of the scale to detach from the surface of the metallic substrate was observed. It was probably due to different coefficients of the thermal expansion of austenite and ferrite.
Praca prezentuje wyniki badań utleniania w atmosferze pary wodnej staliwa żaroodpornego o różnej strukturze (ferrytyczno-austenitycznej, austenitycznej i austenitycznej z węglikami) w temperaturze 900°C w ciągu 12 godzin. W przypadku materiału o strukturze ferrytyczno-austenitycznej stwierdzono odpadanie zgorzeliny od powierzchni rdzenia metalicznego związane prawdopodobnie z różnym współczynnikiem rozszerzalności cieplnej austenitu i ferrytu.

Opis:
CM247LC alloy was manufactured by using selective laser melting (SLM) process, one of the laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) methods. The hot isostatic pressing (HIP) process was additionally conducted on the SLM-built CM247LC to control its microstructures and defects. The high temperature oxidation property was investigated, and it was compared with conventional DS247LC sample (reference) prepared via the directional solidification process. The L-PBF HIP sample showed blocky-type MC carbides generated along the grain boundary with average size of about 200 nm. A semi-spherical primary γ' phase of size 0.4-1.0 μm was also observed inside the grains. Moreover, the DS247LC sample displayed a coarse eutectic γ' phase and many script-type MC carbides. Furthermore, cuboidal-type γ' with an average size of about 0.5 μm was detected. High-temperature oxidation tests were conducted at 1000°C and 1100°C for 24 hours. The results at 1100°C oxidation temperature showed that the measured oxidation weight gains for HIP and DS247LC were 1.96 mg/cm2 and 2.26 mg/cm2, respectively, indicating the superior high-temperature oxidation resistance of the L-PBF HIP sample. Based on the above results, a high-temperature oxidation mechanism of the CM247LC alloys manufactured by the SLM process and the directional solidification process has been proposed.

The paper presents the microstructure, chemical and phase composition of thin scale, obtained as a result of high-temperature corrosion of X20Cr13 stainless steel. Samples were exposed to gas atmosphere of the following composition: 0.25 vol.% of SO2 and 99.75 vol.% of Ar at 600 °C for 5 h. As a consequence, thin compact scale was formed on steel surface. This scale consisted of three different zones. An amorphous zone was formed close to steel surface. Then, nanocrystalline zone could be observed. Finally, larger grains were formed during the corrosion process. The analysis of the chemical composition revealed higher concentration of chromium near steel surface. In contrast, to chromium, the content of iron, increased near the scale surface. It was found out that the (Cr, Mn, Fe)5O12 phase appeared in the thin scale.

This study investigated the microstructure and high temperature oxidation properties of Fe-25Cr-20Ni-1.5Nb, HK30 alloy manufactured by metal injection molding (MIM) process. The powder used in MIM had a bi-modal size distribution of 0.11 and 9.19 μm and had a spherical shape. The initial powder consisted of γ-Fe and Cr23C6 phases. Microstructural observation of the manufactured (MIMed) HK30 alloy confirmed Cr23C6 along the grain boundary of the γ-Fe matrix, and NbC was distributed evenly on the grain boundary and in the grain. After a 24-hour high temperature oxidation test at air atmospheres of 1000, 1100 and 1200°C, the oxidation weight measured 0.72, 1.11 and 2.29 mg/cm2, respectively. Cross-sectional observation of the oxidation specimen identified a dense Cr2O3 oxide layer at 1000°C condition, and the thickness of the oxide layer increased as the oxidation temperature increased. At 1100°C and 1200°C oxidation temperatures, Fe-rich oxide was also formed on the dense Cr2O3 oxide layer. Based on the above findings, this study identified the high-temperature oxidation mechanism of HK30 alloy manufactured by MIM.

Opis:
Exposure of concrete to high temperatures affects its mechanical properties by reducing the compressive strength, bending… etc. Factors reducing these properties have been focused on by several studies over the years, producing conflicting results. This article interested an important factor, that is the type of aggregates. For this, an experimental study on the behavior of concrete based on different types of aggregates: calcareous, siliceous and silico-calcareous subjected to high temperatures. In addition, the particle size distribution of the aggregates was chosen to be almost identical so that the latter does not affect the behavior of the concrete. Aggregates and concrete samples were subjected to a heating/cooling cycle of 300, 600 and 800°C at a speed of 1°C/ min. The mechanical and physical properties of concrete before and after exposure to high temperatures were studied. In addition, a microstructural study using a scanning electron microscope and a mercury porosimeter was performed. Thus, a comparative study between various researches on the mechanical properties of concrete exposed to high temperatures containing different types of aggregates was carried out. The compressive strength test results showed that the concrete based on siliceous aggregates (C-S) has better mechanical performance up to 300°C. However, above 300°C, the compressive strength decreases faster compared to calcareous-based concrete (C-C). According to the mercury porosimeter test, at 600°C, C-SC and C-S concretes have the highest number of pores compared to C-C concretes. The microstructure of concrete at high temperatures was influenced mainly by the aggregate’s types and the paste-aggregate transition zone. This study reinforces the importance of standardizing test procedures related to the properties of concrete in a fire situation so that all the results obtained are reproducible and applicable in other research.

The article presents the results of the influence of pouring temperature on the structure and selected properties of high-chromium cast iron. The study was performed on two different pouring temperatures 1490°C and 1460°C for cast iron of the same chemical composition. Melts were performed in the induction furnace crucible capacity of 15 kg located in the Department of Engineering Alloys and Composites in Foundry Engineering Faculty of AGH. For each temperature cast 2 sets of rollers with dimensions ø30mm, ø20mm, ø15mm x 250mm. During the heats poured cup with installed S type thermocouple to record the cooling curves. Rollers put to the static bending strength test. Samples were cut from the rollers for the test microstructure. The study shown that the pouring temperature has a significant impact on the way of crystallization of high-chromium cast iron and consequently, on the microstructure and mechanical properties. It follows that, by appropriate selection of the pouring temperature can control certain properties of the casting.
Podczas wytopów zalano kubki pomiarowe z termoelementem typu S do rejestracji krzywej krystalizacji i stygnięcia. Wałki poddano statycznej próbie wytrzymałości na zginanie. Następnie z wałków wycięto próbki do badania mikrostruktury.

The aim of the performed experiments was to determine the influence of deformation and of austenitization temperature on the kinetics of phase transformations during cooling of high-carbon steel (0.728 wt. % C). The CCT and DCCT diagrams for austenitization temperature 940°C and DCCT diagram for austenitization temperature 1000°C were constructed with the use of dilatometric tests. On the basis of obtained results, a featureless effect of austenitization temperature and deformation on the kinetics of phase transformations during cooling of investigated steel was observed. Critical cooling rates for the transformation of martensite in microstructure fluctuated from 5 to 7°C · s-1 (depending on the parameters of austenitization and deformation), but only at cooling rates higher than 8°C · s-1 a dominant share of martensite was observed in the investigated steel, which resulted in the significant increase of hardness.

Opis:
In this study, the effect of the coiling temperature on the tensile properties of API X70 linepipe steel plates is investigated in terms of the microstructure and related anisotropy. Two coiling temperatures are selected to control the microstructure and tensile properties. The API X70 linepipe steels consist mostly of ferritic microstructures such as polygonal ferrite, acicular ferrite, granular bainite, and pearlite irrespective of the coiling temperature. In order to evaluate the anisotropy in the tensile properties, tensile tests in various directions, in this case 0° (rolling direction), 30°, 45° (diagonal direction), 60°, and 90° (transverse direction) are conducted. As the higher coiling temperature, the larger amount of pearlite is formed, resulting in higher strength and better deformability. The steel has higher ductility and lower strength in the rolling direction than in the transverse direction due to the development of γ-fiber, particularly the {111}<112> texture.

Opis:
This paper comprehends the effects of finish rolling temperature (FRT) and Nb-microalloying on the microstructural evolution and resultant properties of a low carbon direct quenched steel in the yield strength category of ≥900 MPa. Results indicate that a decrease in FRT close to Ar3 temperature significantly influenced the microstructure following phase transformation, especially at the subsurface (~50-400 μm) of the rolled strip. On decreasing the FRT, the subsurface microstructure revealed a fine mixture of ferrite and bainite obviously as a result of strain-induced transformation, whereas the structure at the centreline remained essentially martensitic. Further, Nb-microalloying promoted the formation of ferrite and bainite even at higher FRTs, thus influencing the mechanical properties. The microstructures of the hot-rolled strips were further corroborated with the aid of CCT diagrams.
