Opis:
This study proposes a convenient method of evaluating mental stress. The potential of monitoring changes in pupil diameter as a measure of human reliability while operating human–machine systems was examined experimentally. An experiment was carried out to clarify the relation between changes in pupil diameter and autonomic nervous activity by measuring an electrocardiogram and pupil diameter when 10 subjects completed a time-sensitive task. The electrocardiogram was measured using a multitelemeter system and pupil diameter was measured using an eye-mark recorder. Several relationships between changes in pupil diameter and autonomic nervous activity were revealed and indicated that measurement of pupil diameter was an effective indicator of autonomic nervous activity. Therefore, it may be possible to develop a monitoring system that measures changes in pupil diameter as an indicator of the mental state of workers operating human–machine systems.

Opis:
Reducing the physical and mental weariness of drivers is significant in improving healthy and safe driving. This paper is aim to predict the stress level of drivers while braking in various conditions of the track. By discovering the drivers’ mental stress level, we are able to safely and comfortably adjust the distance in relation to the vehicle ahead. The initial step used was a study related to Artificial Intelligence (AI), Electroencephalogram (EEG), safe distance in braking, and the theory of mental stress. The data was collected by doing a direct measurement of drivers’stress levels using the EEG tool. The respondents were 5 parties around 30-50 years old who had experience in driving for> 5 years. The research asembled 400 pieces of data about braking including the data of the velocity before braking, track varieties (cityroad, rural road, residential road, and toll road), braking distance, stress level (EEG), and focus (EEG). The database constructed was used to input the machine learning (AI) – Back Propagation Neural Network (BPNN) in order to predict the drivers’ mental stress level. Referring to the data collection, each road type gave a different value of metal stress and focus. City road drivers used an average velocity of 23.24 Km/h with an average braking distance of 11.17 m which generated an average stress level of 53.44 and a focus value of 45.76.Under other conditions, city road drivers generated a 52.11 stress level, the rural road = 48.65, and 50.23 for the toll road. BPNN Training with 1 hidden layer, neuron = 17, ground transfer function, sigmoid linear, and optimation using Genetic Algorithm (GA) obtained the Mean Square Error (MSE) value = 0.00537. The road infrastructure, driving behavior, and emerging hazards in driving took part in increasing the stress level and concentration needs of the drivers. The conclusion may be drawn that the available data and the chosen BPNN structure were appropriate to be used in training and be utilized to predict drivers’ focus and mental stress level. This AI module is beneficial in inputting the data to the braking car safety system by considering those mental factors completing the existing technical factor considerations.

Opis:
This study provides empirical indicators on the presence of alarming mental stress levels among healthcare staffs as a result of the work environment. The study uses a comprehensive survey to identify work stressors and to addresses stress symptoms and coping behaviours among the healthcare givers in Jordan as a case study. The study aims to direct management’s attention to work conditions that largely contribute to increasing mental stresses among their healthcare staffs. Moreover, the study identifies out stress symptoms that employees, team leaders and managers should not ignore to help their fellow workers cope with their stresses through legitimate coping behaviours. A total of 300 responses from 176 nurses, 45 technicians and 79 physicians from three hospitals with high patient flows were included in the statistical analyses. Results demonstrate that stressors related to high job demands, especially long working hours, have the highest impact on the development of stress among surveyed caregivers. Job-demand stressors were the most significant predictor of the symptom recurrence level with a β = 0.334. Continual tiredness and frequent headaches were the most frequent stress symptoms. Taking unprescribed medications, smoking tobacco, and faking reasons to take time off were the most common behaviours to relieve stress. This study contributes to the literature theoretically and practically. From a theoretical perspective, the study provides a comprehensive survey that captures the symptoms, relieve behaviours and work-related causes of stress. From the practical perspective, the study helps care providers and healthcare managers address and resolve work stressors and help their staff adopt healthy behaviours to relieve their stresses.

Opis:
The use of biological tissues as diagnostic tools of trace element level for recognising the disease status of an exposed human population is an important area of investigation. Quantitative analysis of 10 trace elements viz lead, calcium, magnesium, chromium, manganese, iron, nickel, copper, and zinc in the human body was performed using hair as biopsy material. In the present investigation, workers in a roadways workshop, locomotive workshop and Pb battery units were included as subjects. Head hair samples were collected from the nape region of the skull. Subsequent to sampling of hair, a questionnaire recommended by the World Health Organization was filled in order to obtain details about the subjects regarding occupation, duration of exposure, medical history, etc. Concentration of elements in hair was determined using an atomic absorption spectrophotometer. Workers under mental stress were treated as cases and workers without any symptoms of mental stress were chosen as controls. Significant difference in concentration of lead, calcium, magnesium, manganese, nickel, copper and zinc was found in hair of subjects with mental stress than those of controls. Concentration of chromium and iron was found higher in hair of subjects with mental stress but this difference was not significant with respect to controls.
Stwierdzono istotne różnice w zawartości ołowiu, wapnia, magnezu, manganu, niklu, miedzi i cynku we włosach osób z objawami napięcia psychicznego w porównaniu z włosami pobranymi od osób bez takich symptomów. Zawartość chromu i żelaza we włosach osób z objawami stresu była także wyższa, ale różnice nie były istotne w porównaniu z kontrolą.
